Well, after they got rid of Hepler and Gaider, shutting down BSN was the next logical step. I'm surprised it took them so long.

End of an era indeed.
The era ended with Gaider's departure. Now they're just throwing away leftover relics. EA may not know squat about making good video games but they still can count money. And money count says that LGBT content doesn't sell that well unless it's X-rated, and if it's X-rated you can't legally sell it to kids plus you get all kinds of other issues like your brand being associated with porn. Five years ago it was already an obvious dead end but EA is slow to react.

I guess that ME4 is going to be quite different which makes the BSN community a toxic asset. So what we see here is pre-emptive damage control.

Except that they still have Manveer - The race baiting muslim who shit posts anti-white crap on twitter whenever his little tandoori chub gets ruffled.
You are reading too deep into this.

In hindsight it makes sense that they shit canned Woo and Priestly - Don't need community moderators for no community.. And anyways - those faggots will work for free... but Gaider and Hepler? They both quit for "Greener Pastures".. It's not some EA purge - you give them way too much credit.

I used to post there up until Dragon Age: 2 was released. The lounge was rather cool. I stayed mainly in the lounge and Dragon Age: Origins boards, so I never ventured into the Miranda or Tali shit, never having played Mass Effect anyways. I can imagine how crazy the boards got with Inquisition with that bull dude, it's the Inquisition game, right?

There were some cool posters in the lounge that, looking back, I swear were probably Codex posters. Some dude would bring up Gold Box games and Knights of the Chalice all the fucking time. He also posted the Expedition: Conquistador Kickstarter. I had him on my friend's list there. He put me there after I was talking about the old school games I liked.

Anyways, they changed up the layout to a white background. White backgrounds feel like I'm looking into the fucking sun. I stay away from forums with that background. I stopped posting on the PlayStation boards for that reason as well.

Wow. End of an era.

Wew lad.

It's been a long time since I've visited BSN, let alone quote mined. Think I'll start going back for one last hurrah.

:kingcomrade:

Also been a while since I've been here in any real capacity. Please tell me we're getting normal brofists back and that this cavalcade of buttons is temporary (like last time).

Please?

I actually still engage on places like Twitter. I actually find it easier to have conversations in some capacity due to Twitter's nature of not showing posts unless you follow the person and at least one of the people tagged in the message. So it's unlikely a random person will interject to derail something.

That said I also like Twitter because it's a bit easier to talk with people as friends rather than explicitly as dev-fan. Sometimes that latter relationship is fine and even desired, but sometimes I don't want to be talking with any sort of symbol of authority and whatnot.

I also felt it easier to mute/block because, as the forums are a BioWare thing, I felt a stronger degree of responsibility and that I shouldn't make anyone's posts invisible to me lest they be doing Terribad™ things on the forum.

Funny thing is, not even Plebbit wants BSNers. But, um, for truly weird reasons. They fear toxicity, trolling, transmisogyny and homophobia. Their biggest DA subreddit, gentlemen and trannies:

I'm not surprised by much, but to criticize BSN for the lack of tolerance for deviancy?

There's a right way and a wrong way to be deviant. The more intellectual variant of SJW finds the kind of objectifying fetishism that BSN is known for to be unseemly.

From what I remember, the site changed a lot after DA2 and ME3. I guess when they talk about toxicity they are thinking of the people who were absolutely jaded with everything that was going on there. I think I've mentioned it before, but when The Witcher 2 was released it became somewhat of a meme to shit on Bioware because nobody thought TW2 would be better received than DA2. By the time DAI was being announced, a large ammount of people actually said they were going to wait for TW3 instead, since Bioware had fucked up way too many times in their eyes.

The other thing is that, while most of them were into gay stuff, it wasn't an honest attempt to support lgbt rights or some shit like that, it was just for the porn. The most conservative sectors of the SJW legions would find that kind of attitude pretty problematic, so they prefer to dismiss it.

I might be lying again, but I think I remember some Bioware person saying something along the lines of "we just don't check the BSN anymore" some time ago, years ago actually.

The legacy section of the forum was the only cool thing about the BSN, it was a night and day difference between that ad the usual suspects. It was actually a rather friendly place, and you could go there and ask for mods, tips and other stuff for Bio games and people were often glad to help. That, and you could always find useful guides and campaigns for the first NWN game. I'll kind of miss that part, to be honest.

1) Gaider hasn't just lost the desire to communicate; he's gloating.

Yep. It's funny because "childish and needlessly antagonistic" is a great description of Gaider's own posts. He was always stirring the pot, especially on mage/templar fights, and he's one of the most condescending posters I've ever seen in 23 years online. He talks down to everyone, as others have noted in this thread.

There's two people I really blame for BSN's fall. Chris Priestly and David Gaider.

Over what? I've seen quite a few posters angry about this person's banning but no one has said what happened. Or they did and the posts got removed (more likely scenario).

Gaider was posting on the BSN since before BG2, awful lot of time for a "downfall" to happen.

they are butthurt because gaider says that the closing of bns was long over due
Gaider, since the DAO days at least, was a passive aggressive little bitch. He constantly treated people who disagreed with him even on slightest points, romance fags, people who compared his charcters to ones from other games or media, rabid lore fans with their headcanons and many others like shit. Granted, many of those were insufferable twats, but mate, when you get your paycheck from said twats, you better grin and bear it. Looking at his posts it's like he fancied himself a new Tolkien or something.
