Man, graphics have reached diminishing returns a long time ago. It just doesn't impress anymore. I don't even think the biggest popamolers on console even care that much.

Kingdom Come Deliverance is the only game that seems to have achieved something "next-gen" with its forests.

KCD's ace was having extremely thick foliage with a good shadow and lighting system. It made all the difference. I wouldn't say it's "next gen" entirely though, Crysis had real time collision physics with the character model on plants and trees, that's something that has been done by only very few developers cause it was intensive as fuck.
Really wish Crytek was a less shitty company and in a better position, because their tech is really fucking insane for simulating wilderness and physics.

Yeah, one things that I miss the most is when companies were experimenting with physics in their games. Nowadays, most companies seem to be "playing it safe" and are simply ignoring dynamic real-time physics altogether. The only exception that comes to mind is Zelda: BotW.

Another one of these? Let me guess, Lara climbs up a cliff during an avalanche, cries about her father's legacy, falls and slides down a steep slope into a river, finds a gun lying out in the rain and kills 500 highly trained commandos with it, declares undying friendship to some NPC we've never heard of before and will never hear of again, uses a climbing arrow on the wall where you're supposed to use a climbing arrow, meets the wise native people and learns of their vague mystical lore, and collects 50 wolf pelts to get an achievement.

Heh, nice difficulty options: https://tombraider.square-enix-game...-the-tomb-raider-difficulty-and-accessibility

SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER - DIFFICULTY AND ACCESSIBILITY

Play the way you want in Shadow of the Tomb Raider with new accessibility selections and customizable difficulty settings! Go beyond the single toggle for altering gameplay and say hello to new options like:
  • Optional Y Axis Inversion
  • Toggling on and off Vibration
  • Reducing Camera Shake
  • The option to center the camera horizontally so that it is ‘soft locked’ on Lara’s back, requiring the use of only one stick for movement. The other stick can still be used to move the camera if desired.
  • The option to tap rather than hold left trigger to aim down the sights
  • The option to use right (default) or left stick to aim, when looking down sights (left trigger)
  • The option to hold button press prompts rather than repeated tapping
  • The option to push the stick directionally for crank control prompts rather than rotate
  • Adjustable aim sensitivity
Our Audio accessibility options include:
  • Subtitles: Off, On with Color, On without Color
  • Environmental Subtitles: Display subtitles for all conversations taking place nearby, or only for critical conversations
  • Closed Captioning: Display additional or interpretive information such as sound effects, musical cues, and other relevant audio information
We’re not stopping there because we’ve made it possible for players to independently adjust difficulty for puzzles, traversal, and combat. There are four unique settings for the aforementioned trio: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Deadly Obsession. While traditional options like easy, normal, and hard can be swapped at any time, once a player chooses Deadly Obsession, it applies to all three categories (puzzles, traversal and combat) and they will be unable to change the difficulty for the remainder of the playthrough. Choose-wisely…

A loyal friend to any Tomb Raider completionist, Survival Instincts is back once again. Adventurers looking for a more holistic experience can toggle Beacon (next objective location) and Glow (interactable objects) on/off regardless of difficulty settings (except when on the Deadly Obsession setting, of course).

For a deeper look at the game’s difficulty settings, feast your eyes on the breakdown below.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be available on September 14th, 2018 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC/Steam. Pre-order Digital Deluxe, Digital Croft or Croft Edition now to get Shadow of the Tomb Raider two days early!

Well, if their nuDX had these kinds of options.

Perhaps the most famous female character in gaming and they still can't stop calling her Laura.
:deathclaw:

she's a mexico now you know

Well Lara was originally intended to be "Laura Cruz", until Eidos suits slapped the shit out of Core and told them to make her a snaggletooth. Perhaps one day Lara will be a "brown Latinx" as she was always meant to be :smug:

Also Ray Traced shadows run like shit, what a shocker - https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia-rtx-2080-ti-hands-on?tw=PCGN1

The first thing that does need to be said, however, is that we were obviously playing early versions of the RTX builds of both games, and with relatively early drivers for the RTX 2080 Ti graphics card too.

So the performance we were seeing from the cards and the RTX versions of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Battlefield 5 aren’t necessarily 100% indicative of the performance that you might see when you get your thousand dollars worth of graphics card home and try and ray trace the fun out of your favourite new games.

But still, it’s tough not to be a little concerned when the ultra-expensive, ultra-enthusiast RTX 2080 Ti isn’t able to hit 60fps at 1080p in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. We weren’t able to see what settings the game was running at as the options screens were cut down in the build we were capturing, but GeForce Experience was capturing at the game resolution and the RTX footage we have is 1080p.

With the FPS counter on in GFE we could see the game batting between 33fps and 48fps as standard throughout our playthrough and that highlights just how intensive real-time ray tracing can be on the new GeForce hardware. We were playing on an external, day-time level, though with lots of moving parts and lots of intersecting shadows.
