Systems that are implied might be interesting though.

Played over three parallel grids, the player can "planar shift" enemies and objects across the planes of existence to win the turn based combat.

The only battle in the demo is actually promising, with a good AP system, unique characters, and the planar shift mechanism is pleasant.

Haven't played much of it, to be honest.
Was waiting for it to get fully done, and my laptop got screwed.
But honestly, if you've played Heroquest you've got the idea.

Is it any good?

I enjoyed it, but it's pretty simple. Needs better balancing and more content. The balance and leveling system is a tad weird; you get blue bottles that increase the number and power of each character's special abilities, but I think the difficulty of the various stages remains the same. So you grind the easy stages for bottles, and then try the harder stages. You can also pay gold to craft items, hookers to increase morale/strength, and there are potions. There's no perma-death, you can just resurrect people at the graveyard. There's a merchant you can sell jewelry to, but it seems pointless (may as well just give me gold in the first place, there's no other use for jewelry, gems, etc).

Okay, technically the game isn't out yet, but it says on their Steam page that it will be out in less in an hour so well... Shock Tactics is out. I guess

I might pick it up later to give it a go, but I'm hoping one of you will take the plunge and give a first impression

Nope. We've been working on it since the demo came out last year and I think the latest version is much improved. We still have about 4-5 mos left of dev before it's ready for release though I think.

based on their own patch log, it sounds like they rushed the release. it's a shame, becaue E:C was great.
