Thats what you get in TB :obviously:

Especially when two times you tried the same combat just before this one you get killed in two turns.

Anyone left still recognizing the "waarriorrrs.... come out to plaaaiiiyaaayy!" line?

Someone should make a video (or series of screenies) with all the various game over messages. I'm too awesome to die so this is a task beyond me.

We'll tweak them.

The way I see it, in RPGs arrows usually aren't dodged or blocked; when an arrow doesn't hit you, it's assumed that it missed you entirely. Though I don't know if you've got the code to implement the gameplay implications of that, ie, an enemy archer that misses you so badly he hits his ally who is nowhere near you.

I agree, none of this matrix stuff. Archers should either miss due to their initial lack of aim or hit, dodging arrows is not very realistic, not sure why but only after reading what Infinitron posted did i came upon this brilliant conclusion myself.

abstraction...you guys... abstraction.
You can dodge arrows, only not in exact same way that it seems in AoD, to people who cant into abstraction. By throwing yourself down or to the side or behind some cover.

btw, an enemy can hit his own allies with ranged weapons.

I think all that is needed here is to minimize the animation of dodging - but it still needs to be there - because it is your fing dodging skill that works there. If there isnt any it would seem that the archers are missing themselves all the time and then you will have players asking WHY DOESNT DODGE WORK?

What a raping:

Those arrow dodge animations are kind of silly, though. Vault Dweller, maybe reduce those?

gatdam

Has this dude's other video been posted yet?

How does this work? How do you get to this point? Obviously there's a sequence of events that you need to do in the absolute correct order to accumulate the skill points, but he's killed 31 people before he even starts the first video. How do you get to the point where you can do this without relying on random number generation to get there? Also, can this be done with any other build?

High dodge and counter-attacks are very powerful in the current version, and the shamshir is the best weapon for that, especially the one used in the video which is from the Arena champion. I recently took on the pass with a 10 str 10 dex 4 con dagger assassin, but I could not pull off such as a glorious slaughter as the guy in the video, far from it. I only had 8 dodge and 6 dagger, so while I made it through and took down quite a number of the grunts (you can escape to the Ordu camp if you make it to the edge of the map), those damn archers (who shoot through walls with magjific arrows of doom) made it impossible for me to secure a true victory. Of course, with some more dodge and weapon skill I think it would have worked, I messed up by investing too heavily in CS to help in the text adventures, not to mention lore, which I really did not need.

Racking up the SP is quite easy, as long as you do all the fights and do them in the right order. Since I joined the Boatmen I used Coltan's poison and took down the Outpost first, after which the bandit camp was a breeze (had 6 dodge and relied heavily on nets). In Maadoran, I started by doing the Arena and various thug fights, then I took the two missions for the Boatmen, after which I triggered the meeting with Gaelius about the map and switched allegiance to become a Liegeman, earning juicy extra skill points in the process (Tomb quest, etc). Towards the end of the demo I had 10 dodge and felt really confident that I could cut that arrogant Oscar demon to shreds. Unfortunately, the exact opposite happened - over and over again, until I finally settled for running away. Must need higher weapon skill for that, and perhaps something more viable than puny daggers. That smug bastard shrugged off my throwing knives as well, felt like trying to topple the Colossus of Rhodes by throwing pebbles at it.

Other builds than pure weapon/dodge monsters would probably be more tricky for the pass, but the archers, at least, should be much less dangerous against a dedicated blocker, so perhaps some manner of heavily armoured behemoth could stand a chance. Still, the reduced AP and initiative, lower THC and lack of counter-attacks would make it seem a much less attractive choice, but then again, there aren't too many two-handed weapons around, nor any dagger-wielding enemies. I think I am going to try it out next.

My bow/dodge 10 DEX dude was actually doing very well when the game crashed, for the pass battle. Their archers shoot through the walls (and then the projectiles fly forever across the crevice) making things annoying, so I spent the first 4 turns dodging shit and running all the way to the north end of the map where there's a little corner, then using alchemist fire things while I shot everyone 4 times a turn.

Game crashed for me as well when I got to the pass with 10 block (at least I think that was why). I reloaded an earlier save and boosted my skill to 10 on my first round of battle, and that worked like a charm. Ironically, even as a blocker juggernaut it is those puny archers who hurt the most, especially since they use daggers once their ample supplies of ammunition finally run out. Managed to beat it on the third try though, and it was a damn close call since the spear-dude kept scoring auto-attacks.

Went with the Ordu armour from the Arena rather than the steel imperial armour. It has great DR (same as the Praetorian steel), high critical defence and allowed me to use my extra AP point.

Also, I used two potent poison vials in the fight (the ones from Coltan and Darista, respectively), and burnt both of the neurostimulant vials as well.

Taking one point of perception and boosting dexterity worked well since it allowed for fast + regular and whirlwind + 1 movement with the Mineb. Never used another axe after I got it since they all have worse THC.

Also, when I created the character I went straight for 6 axe which gave me very good THC despite using a helmet and shield. In the early fights my sub-par block did not really matter, since I could soak up damage with all those juicy hps from having 10 con. Of course, my character was dumb as a brick, and having such horrible perception resulted in a funny scene in the vignette I had never seen before (also led to less than optimal resolutions for Maadoran AG1 and Darius' Tomb, but oh well, can't have it all).

Killing the demon with a dagger user. This was a tough character to play as in Teron but once my dodge, crafting and dagger were high enough I became a killing machine. I'm a little disappointed that you can't give 3 AP daggers the balanced trait in crafting, I was really looking forward to 12 fast attacks or 3 whirlwinds in a single turn, but I understand that that would be too powerful! The character capable of consistently dealing the most damage was a 10 strength, 10 dexterity sword user with a balanced mithril kopesh, which had the same speed as the dagger I used in the video but much higher damage.

When the full game is out, it might be worth it if you want to use daggers to start with swords and make the switch once you get to Maadoran or put points into both simultaneously. Iron daggers and below, even with level 5 crafting, have a hard time holding up to weapons from any other family. In order for daggers to be truly effective, I think a high crafting is necessary.
