They can just use the iterated digit sum, e.g. Anno 1926

Anno, now with EMONSHUNUL ENGAEGMENT!

WTF is this, Bioware?

Only if you're able to play as a genderqueer trans-European or KANG.
I didn't follow the Anno series much, only played 1600 and 1700 but I'm surprised at how much they took out only to bring back now.

Absolutely not interested. I don't care about "features" they talk when main gameplay is shit and wasn't fixed since Anno 3 (forgot number). And 2 and 3 were still inferior in therms of gameplay to Anno 1602.

You didn't like 1404?

Anno 1404 looks nice, but it seems easy compared to the older in the series. I'm playing it mostly to obtain those crazy achievements like 100K honor or 20,000 peasants. Anno 1503 for me it's the best of the series, both in terms of looks (charming 2D graphics) and economy/difficulty. From what I remember it's harder than 1602 and the sequels. 1701 is quite terrible, probably because it suffer from the syndrome of a great series making the transition from 2D to 3D.

Mid December, there was a live stream with Alpha footage:

(Game footage starts at 8:50 after some talking)

Shorter version with the highlights by Gamestar in German:

DEV: People often ask how far you will be able to zoom in !
DEV2: Now you will be able to do this quite far.

ehhh... everytime i see new anno in like 5 minutes i become angry. Anno is such a good idea for a game but it needs to be expanded. But what devs always do is just same shit with different graphics with added gimmick.

How about alternative industries ? How about different paths of progression ? No iron ? How about focusing on copper tools etc. ?

nope nada.

The newer Annos really haven't brought much to the table... I made the mistake of buying 2070, and oh boy...

2070 is my favourite by far and it brought A LOT of new things to the table. And unlike 2205 most of them were for the better.

Yeah, for example, the difficulty has gone up a lot because you have to wrestle with UPlay before you even get to play the game :D

I loved the music in 1602. The sounds also blended well. I still like the building sound.

I like the ANNO series and the 19th century setting is cool but Uplay = Never Buy for me.
I've no idea when exactly have you arrived to this, uPlay used to be terrible. But today, of all the digital platforms out there, uPlay is by far the least annoying. It's the fastest, most reliable, most usable and unlike Steam it doesn't look like something from 2005 and doesn't bother you with social bloat BS (trading cards etc.). Plus if you like metagaming their achievement/challenge system is the only one that's not just an afterthought. I've waited so long for studios to realize they can link achievements with real-life rewards like deals on games.

If you're against all digital platforming like Steam, Origins etc. then I respect that, barely. But if you happily use Steam but categorically reject uPlay then sorry bro, it's just hipsterism.

cvv is right, uPlay was utter trash, but it doesn't get in your way nowadays.
Of course, if this is another title that features both Steam AND uPlay, it will be a nuisance anyway.

I never buy Ubisoft games on Steam, why would you ever do that? You have to launch two goddamn clients plus if you buy directly on uPlay you can get 20% off any game as long as you have 100 of their thingamajic points.

That would be yet another client/store/whatever to register myself at.
I try keeping that number as low as possible (which at the moment means Steam and GOG only), adding more would just start getting on my nerves eventually.

Ubisoft?
The other day I downloaded 40 Gigabyte overnight to play a Ubisoft game on a free weekend. I never played it because it required me to login to some Ubi shit, and I just went, you know what? fuck it. I don't even remember which game it was, afaik they are all the same popamole linear stealth console faggotry. Nowadays Ubisoft games are for games what porn is for movies, you log in and get immediately stimulated in the most superficial way possible. Now dont get me wrong, I love porn but in gaming I am the equivalent of a man who slept with 10,000s of women. why would I watch porn?

i thought that the main point of refusing uplay wasn't its quality (or lack thereof) but it was a horrible spyware full of security exploits.

Concerning uPlay: I just started playing Anno 2070, which was gifted to me long ago. After downloading the game it went into an infinite loop of game launching -> patch process launching -> game launching again. I had to manually download the correct update and reactivate the game using a key. If I hadn't saved the e-mail containing the key I would not be able to play.

Yeah, that's been a known issue FOR YEARS, I fuck you not. I've been playing 2070 on and off since 2013 and this shit has been happening since I remember. Check on forums, tons of people posted tickets but Ubi apparently thought it'd be a waste to spend resources and manpower fixing a 8 years old game.

Mind you I've never said Ubi and uPlay are excellent, just the least rage inducing of all digital platforms and AAA popamole publishers. Still shit obviously.
