Any decent Half Life 2 mod?

It was populated for several years after it got put on Steam, but ultimately lack of updates and dare I say accessibility really took their penalty and it basically died. Then for most of last year it wouldn't work at all, either the game wouldn't launch or you couldn't see any servers. Now that's all fixed but still nobody plays it.

But like I said, people do play on Sundays at 4 EST. They'll be playing now as far as I know.

I tried it, but controlling in space was fucked. For some reason, what direction you were turning in wasn't dependent on how you were moving your mouse, but on the distance of some cursor icon from the center of the screen. I'd have enjoyed it if the ships just controlled like in FreeSpace or something similar.

That actually sounds like a decent scheme if it's what I think it is.

I remember playing it back on release. The premise is good but the execution is much worse. Mainly the on foot gunplay felt really half-arsed and weak.

It's kind of laid out like joystick controls but for a mouse. It's a little weird and takes a little while to get used to but it's a serviceable control scheme. I agree the foot combat is not everything it could be, but personally given how much fun the space fighting was, the foot stuff only needed to be "good enough" to get me into it. It's a mod that could have gone really far with the right kind of support. Unfortunately the developer stopped working on it at some point and handed development over to the community, who clearly didn't really have the time or motivation to support it, and here we are.

I miss it more than any game ever. :( I've never fallen in love with a competitive shooter like I fell in love with Eternal Silence.
