LIKE ANYONE IS GOING TO BELIEVE THAT!
I BELIEVE!
In fact, I'm bookmarking this thread as reference for when I decide whether to buy it or not in 2012.

Holy crap.. This game is really turning out to be the ultimate in my rpg desires. Awesome combat combined with the codex' finest in story/cnc/atmosphere.

When I build a char for the combat demo, I'm building one with the viking berserker in mind:
fast, ferocious, frenzied, and minimal armor. Also, gonna be wielding axes with the intention of causing brain stopping criticals.

Yeah I actually had no expectation at all about the games' combat. Thought it would be just standard fare (albeit balanced) with really good C&C. I'm quite surprised at how changing weapons/armor/stats changes combat tactics and strategy significantly.

Nice. Can't wait.

Judging from the earliest winner of the demo, a block hammerer specialist is best to win the combat demo.

Hey VD, care to post the stat/skill ratios, etc somewhere?
One of the guys on the Iron Tower forums posted that Axe was Sx3 and Dx1, whereas hammer was Sx4. What about the other skill/stat multipliers?

No, they are beating the demo with different builds now that they understand the system better. As for the starting skill values:

Dagger - Dex x 4
Sword - Str x 2 + Dex x 2
Axe - Str x 3 + Dex x 4
Hammer - Str x 4
Spear - Str + Dex x 3
Bow - Dex x 2 + Per x 2
Crossbow - Dex + Per x 3
Throwing - Dex x 3 + Per

One of the awesome things is that a rank of 10 in any of the stats is considered heroic and beyond normal, and because of that you get special bonuses associated with that stat.
Perception: big +TH among other things in game.
Int: skill point bonuses
Etc, etc.

Two minor nitpicks, shouldn't Axe formula be halved there, cause the value will be about 2x of other skills.

Second thing, I know it's mostly balancing issue, but realistically speaking, Axes and Hammers should require similar stats, the only functional difference betwen them is that one sports a wedge, and the other is blunt/has spikes.

Similarly Bows and crossbows. While the xbow looks ok, bows should require strength at some point there. You need quite a bit for the more powerful ~90lbs, but even firing the twenty-somethings can be a strenous exercise.

Wow so your dagger skill can start out at 400?
It can because it's both awesome and innovate.

My mistake. It's Str x 3 + Dex.

The only kind of difficulty that can just ruin completely the game to me, is the kind of those games where we keep missing hits. It's so frustating and annoying!

I don't care if my hit only takes 1 point or the enemy parries, but I want to see my hits connect. Sure missing here and there, due to a good dodge from the enemy or the very ocasional real miss it's okay. But when we miss more than we hit, I quit. Life's too short.

Nope, although for different reasons.

Challenge and frustration are okay, as long as it seams possible (i.e. trying tactics out).

Also what about timed quests? I sure hope those timers keep still until i atleast talked to the quest giver.
