I wonder if raptors were flightless birds that wore hats to make up for their sadness.
Raptors were part of a subgroup of the theropod family of dinosaurs (coelurosauria). Scientific consensus is that modern birds are also descended from that subgroup. That makes birds theropods, and by extension, dinosaurs.
Raptors are not birds. But birds are closely related to raptors.
