But this whole alternate history that Ubisoft cooked up is a hoot.

Adolf Hitler (20 April 1889 – 30 April 1945) was the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, also known as the Nazi Party, serving as Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945.

By the 1930s, Hitler was under the influence of the Templar Order, obtaining an Apple of Eden from Templar industrialist Henry Ford, intending for him to use it to start World War II. Alongside fellow Templar puppet Joseph Stalin, Hitler brought on the turmoil and fear necessary for Abstergo Industries to take control of the working population.

On 30 April 1945, at the end of the war, Hitler executed his body double inside the Führerbunker and planned to meet Winston Churchill with the Apple of Eden at a rendezvous point. However, upon leaving the bunker, Hitler was assassinated by the Assassins.

Iosib Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, later anglicised as Joseph Stalin (18 December 1878 – 5 March 1953), was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union's Central Committee from 1922 until his death in 1953.

After Vladimir Lenin's death, and under the regime of Stalin, the state's approach to communism became corrupted. While Stalin was not a member of the Templar Order, the Templars infiltrated the Politburo, secretly influencing Stalin's regime. The Stalinist government allowed the Templar Yuri Petrovich Figatner to head a special government commission to investigate the Russian Academy of Sciences and persecute "counter-revolutionaries". Many Assassins and scientists loyal to the Assassin cause were killed or forced into hiding during Stalin's regime.

Under their influence, Stalin took a leading role in World War II alongside Adolf Hitler, bringing on the turmoil and fear necessary for Abstergo Industries to take control over the working population. In 1953, the Assassins managed to kill Stalin with the use of poison, making it look like he died of a stroke.

Jack Chick should sue them for Copyright Infringement.

Yes, it has zero challenge

Have you tried the additional challenges in AC3 and 4? Some of them are legitimately hard. 100% stealth of a 30-minute mission followed by a kill from a rope swing which requires PERFECT timing. And you get no save during this whole section -- you fail and you have to start all over again.

It used to be that the games rewarded players for putting the effort in to 100% sync, you got extra content and all that. Now, there's nothing. I tried the rope swing kill once, a good try that meant waiting for the target to walk around the boat another time, but the timing was off and I said screw it.

Well I would say the awesome rope swing kill is its own reward, which brings me to another point:

AC3/4 (didn't bother to play the two expansions of AC2 so can't comment on those) present their "challenges" in a different way compared to older games -- you don't get punished by failing those challenges, instead, you're rewarded by completing those.

For example, when fighting an army of guards, you absolutely CAN wait for enemies to attack and spam counters and easily kill them all. But if you manage to chain your attacks together, you get kill streaks and are rewarded with a badass-looking kill animation.

Another example, the optional assassination missions of AC4 usually carry a 100% stealth challenge. Completing that challenge earns you an additional 500 dollar (or whatever money they use in AC4) and your own satisfaction that you have acted like a badAss(assin). However, failing those challenges has absolutely no negative effect since who gives a fuck about 500 dollar when you can pirate on the sea easily and earn thousands.

Also, any of you naysayers tried taking on those legendary ships in AC4? Tried fighting the harder forts before you fully upgrade your ship? Those are freaking hard. You don't have to do those but if you want, those are legitimate challenges.
-----------------------------------

The same goes for those Batman games. Sure you can "complete" your game blindfolded and fighting like a pussy. But doing that causes the game to put a "C" rating on screen every time you complete a fight. You can chain your combos and give yourself a challenge, and are rewarded in that you don't feel like those retarded kids in your math class who receive C all the time. But you don't HAVE to.
And you still managed to miss the point of the discussion with your tunnel vision.

Fighting armies of guards and naval warfare has fuck all to do with Assassins Creed and playing an assassin. Most of the things you mentioned and as it seems enjoy is actually what declined the series. So thanks for being one of those gamers I mentioned in few posts back and bringing the decline.
Have fun grinding your next popamole.

Batman Arkham series combat is different cause its actually fun in contrast to AC's combat and by being a sort of skill rythm game where you keep the combo flow and by chaining longer combos you get more XP, more points for each cleaner fight you make. So you get rewarded and feel badass when you do a x100+ combo. Can get a bit exhausting in the long run but way better than AC's combat thats boring from the get go cause they let you play pretty much an unkillable demigod. I liked the predator sections more but I have little complaints about free flow combat.

... those are legitimate challenges.

Thats the problem.

Before achievements we pretty much made our own challenges, there was no ->"THIS IS YOUR CHALLENGE"<- as people did come up with things they wanted to try doing so was at those times they were their own reward, like in DeusEx were the game never said "DONT KILL ANYONE", there was simply a reaction of who you killed or not but that was not the norm, it was fun trying to see if there was a reaction.

No point of saying beating a specific boss with a specific weapon outside doing so, this was its own reward and extra if the game recognized it.

Now ... its spelled out, "this is a challenge" and then you get a Achievement, Thropy that says "Player done this" ... its being herded and since people are herded by being given explicit directions they want something, not the challenge for the sake of the challange but something because the game said "do this".

Complaining about their challenges on AC is a symptom of being directed, its because they stopped being challenges and became "mandatory optionals" because they are spelled out as instructions so we get the complains about both them existing and any rewards they given.

So you're complaining that the game is called "Assassins Creed" instead of "Historical Adventures"? Please file your complaint of false advertisement to FTC.

I don't give a fuck what the game is called. For all I care, the game can be called Goat Simulator and I'll still praise its naval combat because it's good.

Batman Arkham ...

Not denying that Batman has a higher skill ceiling than Asscreed. But let's not fool ourselves. Both are pussy easy games. Please don't take pride in liking one and hating the other.

And btw, you can try 100% stealth in AssCreed missions. They play similarly to those predatory missions in Batman.

Anyone bet the king, and his entourage will be the meanies oppressing Templars, Robespierre will be a wild unaligned element and the fair righteous assassin's will be the moderate revolutionaries?

I can't wait to see this new adoption of pop history, who under the excuse of inserting the templar assassin conflict into the events will blatantly disregard just about everything that transpired between 1789 and 1800.

I'm ready to cringe at the obvious manichean nature of the plot, Because at least I'll be able to climb around Notre Dames like Quasimodo. I waited 18 years for this.

I'm not sure where this "Batman games are easy" talk is coming from. At least on hard, there is some legitimate challenge in them. Maybe you didn't play on hard. But it's funny they've been brought up, because I've thought that if elements of their combat system would be applied to Assassin's Creed it would make the combat a lot better. Specifically, the element where enemies can interrupt you. After you do a "stun" attack, you can keep hitting the enemy to knock him out, but you're vulnerable to attacks from other enemies. If you apply that same mechanic to "counters" in AC it can suddenly become a lot harder. What makes the combat so easy is that all the enemies wait for you to finish a counter, and it's an instant kill to boot.

I dunno, they had Machiavelli as a protagonist and that was pretty lulzy. I think the Templars were on the Americans' side in AC3 too, but I don't remember..

They would have made either the brits or the american butthurt by depicting one or the other as the bad guys, both being probably the 2 biggest buyers. so they made both sides more or less neutral ''grey''.

There's hardly any monarchists left in this world, and the average guy would think the revolutionaries were well intentioned freedom fighters. Few are even aware of the horrors of the terrors.

Almost no one is aware that even the so called moderates were just trying to set up their own Parisian despotism, pushing for ever increasing centralisation, crushing popular protest in the other regions. In some ways, you can see this as Parisian plutocrats seizing power and invading the rest of France.

Ironically, The French kings were quite lenient when it came to the administration of the country's regions who enjoyed significant autonomy . It's in the following republicans ''democratic'' regimes that local cultural particularism were suffocated with these localities having no say over their own politics, education, laws and overall life.

AC series is known for its rich and totally non-retarded storyline but this time they're taking it even further.

Are you guys mature enough for AC Unity?

Let's get back to Paris, which, is not only a large game area, but a freer one than in previous Assassin's Creed games. In those you followed a rigid storyline, beelining for side-quests along the way, but in Unity your progression from novice to master assassin is the storyline, which means the story is about how you play the game. (Incidentally, this is hung together by the story of main character Arno's redemption, as well as deeper layers of story about choosing between love and duty, and about extremism at that period in history. "We wanted to respect our fans who are older now, are more mature," says Amancio. "They're ready for a story like this.")

Haven't touched these games since 2, but I will play this for the setting and graphic whoring. It's just a shame that to craft worlds like this requires the deep pockets of companies like Ubisoft, but companies like Ubisoft do not put the same care into mechanics. These games should have some of the best implementation of historical combat ever seen, giving players a taste of what it might have felt like to acquire mastery of the techniques of the time. It's a damn crime.

What's so retarded about this story? It looks to me like they're trying to cut out the "aliums" retardation of previous games, so that's a good sign.

In general, I don't know if retarded, but every AC I played the story development makes me want to root for the templars. Those guys have it right.

And the Far Cry 3 debacle. And...

"We know a lot of gamers consider 1080p with 60 frames per second to be the gold standard, especially on the new generation of consoles," Pontbriand concluded. "We realise we had also pushed for 1080p in some of our previous games, including AC4 [which was bumped from 900p to 1080p on PS4 via a post-launch patch]."

"But we made the right decision to focus our resources on delivering the best gameplay experience, and resolution is just one factor. There is a real cost to all those NPCs, to all the details in the city, to all the systems working together, and to the seamless co-op gameplay. We wanted to be absolutely uncompromising when it comes to the overall gameplay experience. Those additional pixels could only come at a cost to the gameplay."

Which simply put means: current consoles are way too shit and there's no way in hell they could handle this game if we don't use a lower resolution and locking it at 30 FPS.
