I was thinking of getting this game, but now that I hear about this time limit stuff I may pass.

I only played the 1st one and I soloed the game because the 4 man party was way to easy even on the harder modes, but it took a lot of time and grinding.

I don't see how we can solo with this time limit junk now.

I will be waiting for way to disable temporary the timer. By the way, what do you listen to while playing Spiderweb games? I go for Faun,Dunkelschon or MedievalBabes.

With a four person party, I have been sailing through without approaching any of the time limits.

That said, what is your goal in a singleton game?

You don't actually need to do things before the time limits. If you fail to kill the slims before day 11~... some cities get a little damaged. Life goes on. If memory serves, there are several deadlines before anything drastic occurs. Here:

http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/...ts-of-passage-of-timedays-complete-town-list/

Judging by this, you have until day 60 before any of the cities in the first region get destroyed. If you can't defeat the slimes before day 60... I don't know what to say. I defeated the slime monster on day 7 or 8. Even if you never defeat the slimes, it appears that only some of the cities get destroyed, the others are only damaged.

That is not exactly true, the city gets damaged by day 10,at the end of day 9. Also there is more loot if you manage to visit the town before day 10. It is possible that some people die, could be quest givers....don't know. Where is the slime boss, want to run and kill him?

Here you go:

slime.jpg

There's a little path that goes into the mountain range and leads you to the entrance. Inside it's basically separated into a series of rooms one floor down from the entrance-level. You use a control panel located on the entrance level to open the doors below, and then you tackle them room by room. Once you've defeated three or so of the rooms, you get to face the main boss. When he dies, the slime threat is over and everyone is nice to you.

No, sorry, but I have to imagine it does because presumably you lose some number of hours when you rent a room. It would be quick to test, just go rent a room a few times and see if the day timer changes. As for just walking around at the local level, with no room renting... I guess you could hold down the space bar for a minute and then see if the timer moves forward.

Dude use this as an opportunity to purge this shit mentality out of your system.

I know, I have this compulsion too. Fight it, relax and enjoy the game in the moment not having to plan 100% completion. :negative:

I The RPG system has 0 changes. From first remake to second to third it just has nothing. Compared to, say, 4 > 5 > 6 progress, that's absolutely insulting. And whatever, fuck the feelings, fuck the hate, but there's just nothing for me that I want to experience, nothing that I haven't seen. I just don't really know who cares at this point apart from the core-st of his core audience.

I always find this a weird position. It's like reading an ebook or a paperback , buying a fancy hardcover of the same book with zero changes and then complaining the content "has 0 changes"

I personally don't find it insulting at all. As someone who has played both Avernum 1 and Avernum EFTP, I find the remKes exactly what I want: A total graphical remake that's easier on the eyes than the previous version with minimal changes.

The changes between the original first 3 Avernum games and the remakes are a good time apart. This living in an era where PS3 games are being remastered for PS4 on a regular basis.

And like IncendiaryDevice said, there are a lot of us who havent played through all 6 games and appreciate the remasters, along with minimal changes to the systems when possible (personally I did notice small changes here and there from Avernum 1 and Avernum EFTP that made a difference without ruining the original experience).

Vogel bitches about pirates and being "40ish" as ild, but overall I think his fans welcome the remasters. I personally can't wait till the Geneforge series gets remade (with zero changes if possible as i heard it's a great series).

The only real difference between the remake skill system and the re-remake skill system is that the re-remakes require way less meta-gaming.

All the best skills in the remakes were hidden. You didn't know they were there until after you stumbled into the pre-reqs for them (i.e. they wouldn't appear until you had the right numbers in a set combo of skills). Which means you'd spend 4-5 hours at the start of each game, planning your party to meet all of the requirements necessarily to maximize those hidden skills. In the re-remakes, all of those skills are still there, it's just that they are readily visible from the start at the top of the skill tree and working your way up the skill tree will naturally guide you to them (as opposed to having to plan out your path at the start via meta-gaming).

The re-remakes also allow for slightly fewer crazy hybrid builds, but that's less of a problem than proponents of C&C might think as while hybrid builds have always been viable in the Avernums (mages with enough melee to get battle frenzy, for example), the truly crazy hyrbid builds that you could make in the older games from randomly picking skills were never viable in the first place. The newer games do hold your hand somewhat in preventing those truly crazy hybrid builds, but.......honestly, I don't mind if it means that I don't have to spend 6 hours meta-gaming at the start (I mean, I will anyway.....I typically spend at least 4 or 5 hours on my party, but there's just less research required now).

Plus, while I like the original Exile engine and I like the re-remake engine, the remake engine (from the early 2000s) was total shit. I always felt like I was playing a spreadsheet with crudely drawn graphics. And enemy AI was awful.

I do like some completion, but this is not about it. I am pretty anarchic asshole, hate something to have control over my life and decisions. I have any kind of time limit in any game,it feels like loosing control.

For anyone who has played Avernum 3, did Vogel fix the Beast races yet? In the previous Avernums they were woefully crap and a detriment to your party compared with how OP Humans were.

You mean the nu-avernums? Because in Avernum 5-6 furry was the only way to go, humans were utter crap when compared to them. And even in the nu-avernums, human advantage is pretty slim as most of the perks are shit anyways and, as the pole/throwing specialists, furries are better than humans.

Yes, the new ones. Beast races were better than Humans for the first 4 or so levels in EFtP and CS, but then Humans quickly go way ahead of them thanks to Perks.

Did you talk to Berra and then your handler before going to Erika? I assume by infestation you mean you defeated the slimes and cockroaches (you are ahead of me, actually; I have only defeated the slimes).

Also, when you killed the slimes...
did you go to the side room and see Erika's pattern on the ground? You have to go to the slime caves, defeat the boss, and then look inside the boss' room. Inside the room is a pattern on the ground, so you sketch the pattern and show it to Berra who says it belongs to Erika. Then you get sent to Erika to confront her about the pattern, and the golems will step aside to let you inside.

Yeah,i managed it with the flying orb. I didn't knew about Berra until i read it in your post. The Main quest structure is strange. Now i am hunting for dispel barrier level 3.
