The DLC and the sale seems to have worked. Peak players in the last 24h was 1,659, roughly 50% of the all time high.

The legs were added in an overly wordy text event a long time ago :smug:

That almost nobody get because of broken Random Number Generator, need of 15 different backgrounds that have little use and even if somebody get nobody read it because no reason whatsoever.

Anyway there is a question. Anyone checked how high population was before free lizard? Did it granted significant boon in pop? Just curios.

http://steamcharts.com/app/365360

It was 300 before. Currently it's at 700 players, a number not seen since July. They can learn from that, that abandoning a game shortly after launch isn't a good idea.

last 24-hour peak

There were even few new subscription to my abandoned and dead Battle Brothers YT channel. I bet they were new players looking for some guidance.
Imagine that there were mods that would keeping this game alive.

I still hope that Germans would notice how wrong they are and release source code or hire some guy or grab some volunteers to make some additional content if they are really that busy.
But I know that it would no happen without their ass getting some heavy beating. Germans - they never learn in easy way.

Steamspy numbers show the impact of free DLC+sale: http://steamspy.com/app/365360

Before the DLC: 90K~95K
After the DLC and sale: 100K~110K

22K played the game in last 2 weeks. (It was 6~7K before the DLC.)
Average playtime (in the last 2 weeks) is almost 12 hours (median: 4 hours).

11 users deleted negative reviews since the DLC teaser.

Unfortunately the numbers are small to be reliable and meaningful, but 10K of new buyers and 10K of returned players I guess.

I can't figure out the role of large melee. No matter how tough my 2-handed axe guy is, enemies always (rightly) target him as the guy with the lowest defense and kill him in a couple swings. Shields seem mandatory on the front line, yet large melee can't be used anywhere else.

Disposable shock troops bro. Hire cripples, give them an axe and a cultist's hood, and put them on the flank behind a shield guy. When the enemy is in range, charge. They'll get a couple of swipes in before they go down.

Later on, when you can invest in proper armour and get better weapons, there will be other uses -- being able to hit two tiles in a row is hella powerful, and if you support your two-handed guy with shield guys they can survive OK. Giving selected bros the perk that lets them swap places with another is a big help too as it lets you get them out of trouble when they do start getting clobbered.

Your guys need to gid gud.

But early game they are risky and tend to die first if you get unlucky (which happens often). Use spearwalls 'till you get armor.

I guess there is that perk that lets a bro run away without an AOO. Still seems weird to have a guy whose role is to be in melee without being in melee. Thanks gentlemen.

P.S. I would never exploit the unfortunate so callously. I've actually thought about hiring cripples just so I could put them in the tents and feed them for a few weeks before sending them off with a nice severance. But I don't really have the cash for such altruism.

I don't use two-handed weapons until the Brother has - at least - 250 head / 300 body armor and the 'Rotation', 'Reach Advantage' and 'Battle Forged' perks.

But I'm also a kind soul who cares about the people in his company and not a heartless bastard.

They got to see the world a bit, a few square meals, camaraderie, and only one bad day. Beats begging in the gutter as far as I’m concerned. Also not all of them die in the first battle.

You should not give a bro a two hander before he reaches level 11. Make sure you get reach advantage, battle forged, underdog and the required weapon specialization. You need underdog because you want to be somewhat surrounded to execute you AOE attacks. Then get his melee defense to at least 25 to 30 and keep on pumping it after lvl 11. When it reaches 40 to 50 this guy should be a monster. Reach advantage gives you +20% to melee defense for each target hit so melee accuracy is a form of defense for a two hander, so get it above 90 if possible. Put the heaviest armor you can get on a two hander. I don't carry a two hander unless my body armour is at least 240 or higher and head armor 200 or higher. Position two handers on the flanks. This makes them less of a target for ranged attacks, and its also the best place to execute AOE attacks without hitting your own guys. I usually roll with 3-4 great swords and 1-2 2hnded hammers and one 2hded axe. Don't use more than one 2handed axe bro as their AOE attacks needs a lot of space. I also usually put the orc necklace on the 2 handed axe and put him out front for all the orcs to try and stun him. This way you get surrounded quickly and can execute the round swing with great effect.

That is why you arm everyone with twohanders.
That is no a joke, I repeat its not a joke. Or use mix of twohanders and one handers with no shield(but net or double grip). Net enemy and chop him to pieces. Also do not use woodcutter axe - its trash.
Massed two handers are best late when you have heavy armor, high levels and right perks(late twohanders become your main line) but even early they can be deadly if you do not mind taking losses and it can also win you fight with enemies that normally you would not defeat. But you need plenty of them - one guy with low defense gonna attract all attacks when if you have all your guys with low defense it gonna spread. Also positioning.
>try to fight back against 6 orc warriors and 6 orc young early on caravan mission with standard early shield tactics and max 4 level and most company on 2-3 and like 1 or 2 mails, rest gambeson and leather
>lose
>arm company with manplitters/orc axes from earlier cleared berserker cave
>win with one(or two) dead guy
Sometimes you just need hit enemy harder.

If you want to use them early as specialists(and not throw away) you need them build and arm right - as you lack good armor and perks you need rely on good base stats, dodge and positioning - also get warbrand or great sword - basic two hander axe suck donkey balls. Using them early is risky so take care.
Or arm your mine line with polearms/mansplitters and invest in full attack but you gonna be slaughtered by arrows.
Or make it mix with polearms, 2 handers and 1handers with nets.
Or as most people do level them up and switch them to twohanders later when they already leveled.
Giving your shieldmen Overwhelm and arming your two hander with hammer also its nice tactic.

Wow, Beginner was getting a little too easy so I retired and tried Veteran. Three warbands in a row wiped out! I can see I'm going to have to spend a lot more time retreating and telling my employers to go fuck themselves

Yeah you should avoid 3 skull contracts like the plague... Unless there is literally no other option or you feel very confident. Which is probably a mistake but, oh well :P

Just a few goblins - what could happen with these beginner mobs.

I started another party. It's still fun. Like the nice colourful helmets they've added in the interim. Going casul this time (=not ironman, will reload if a battle goes really bad).

They also seem to have tweaked the missions being offered, it was a while before I was even offered a three-skull mission, and that one turned out to be just a big pack of dire wolves.

I picked up this game too and I love it so far, but the difficulty on Veteran is driving me insane. I started directly with Veteran/Ironman of course (indulging with high starting funds). However, it seems the wandering parties scales up very quickly, by day 20 when my party is average level 4 I encounter only difficult warbands that kills 1-2 at best, or wrecks my party totally. If I avoid the difficult encounters then I waste days wandering from place to place without gaining any experience or crowns. I restarted many times, and sometimes the map is so screwed up that even the first mission takes two days of walking forth and back over the mountains. I usually restart at days 20-30 when I start losing veterans and I feel I could not recover. Should I continue playing, can you recover by mid game without good equipment and always recruiting new soldiers?

BTW I've got two lousy cripples with two-handed weapons in my band of bros now AND THE FUCKERS REFUSE TO DIE. Now they've leveled up a few times and I've gotten a bit fond of them.
