Borderlands 2 is a co-op shooter with a few MMO-like elements.

Borderlands 1 was marketed as "Diablo with guns" and for the most part it delivered. Borderlands 2 however is indeed a full-on console MMO (but with only 4 players at maximum).

--There is a significant mechanism difference between Diablo and general MMOs.

I agree it was my fault to expect BL2 to improve upon BL1 instead of changing direction.

I've always been fascinated by people who play dozens of hours to get to the "end game" which is all about getting more powerful, yet... powerful for what? You finished the game? It's baffling to me.

If by being "more powerful" you mean "improve your existing abilities numerically while enemies HP also increase numerically," then yes, wasting hours reaching endgame is pointless.

But in BL2, Diablo and in general MMOs I suppose (the only MMO I've played is Secret World so I'm not sure), the "end game" allows you to use a variety of your character's ability combinations which are not fully unlocked before the endgame. Enemies get tougher. More interesting gear combinations become available to you. Etc.

If you don't reach the end game, you're simply missing a large chunk of what the game has to offer.

Unfortunately in BL2's case, the journey to endgame sucks and is completely pointless. They should have got rid of the leveling system completely.

There are some SJW undertones in BL2. You get to attack online trolls, people making "sexist comments", has a quest about female armor in rpgs, the hero is called the "White Knight" in the D&D dlc etc. I would normally consider these just references to online culture if it wasn't written by Burch.

The first one was something different at the time, second one is more of the same. They are basically fetch quests: the game, with some basic story to help you endure the grinding. I would suggest avoiding most dlcs though, it's been a long time since I was that bored playing something.

This one as others have said looks like another cash grab. Gearbox is gonna milk this franchise to the ground and the fanboys are gonna treat it like the best thing ever and D1P the hell out of it. It will also have the mandatory season pass, and a billion dlcs that are not included in it or the goty version.

Bruticis sold me his GPU copy of 2 for $5 and I later picked up the Season Pass for $7.50 on a Gay-mer's Gate glitch. Can't say I enjoyed the DLC that much. Took me another year to get through it all. Base game of this will probably be enough for me. I'm not into farming since it's fairly pointless.
