Am I getting it right when believing you actually have to pay extra to unlock costumes and other game content?

Well, you have to pay for premium costume sets (they used to be small-ish, but the ones released nowadays are pretty big sets, and the pieces themselves look great). There's a huge load of free costume pieces, and costume pieces you get by being a Gold member (subscriber or Lifer).

If you're a Gold member, your character gets three costume slots by level 30. All characters get an additional slot for belonging to a supergroup. You can buy additional costume slots, for example four euros gives all your current and future characters two extra costume slots.

There's only two game content types you have to pay for if you're playing for free otherwise: Adventure Packs (three of them, each four euros) and archetypes, and you need to be a Gold member to be able to use Freeform character system. All Adventure Packs and Archetypes are free for Gold members.

All zones, comic series, and whatnot are free.

Whiteout's final issue is out. Overall, both the comic series have been great rides. Whiteout is probably shorter, but that's because it has even less filler combat (no dungeon sections at all, for example) and it's in general more dense. They also experimented a lot with their cutscene engine this time, to good effect.

The final issue in particular was great stuff, and it has, once again, one of those things the Codex keeps craving for: A tough fight. The final boss is a very tough cookie, and for weaker characters definately a killjoy. It's essentially like fighting a Legendary. Though apparently as a factor to make things easier it doesn't heal if it defeats you. Definately made as a Team encounter.

EDIT: Also, there's a new Free archetype now, The Unleashed. It's Dual Blades + Force DPS that uses Unstoppable as its passive. Seems pretty good on paper, has possibility of getting a self-heal and possesses several utility powers, and thanks to Eye Of The Storm is a LOT less squishier than all the other DPS archetypes.

Thunder Jackson has reached level 40. Here's screenshots of all the Wind powers, except the energy builder. All are at Rank 3 when pictured.

This is Hurricane. Seems really devastating, as it has extremely high close maintain AoE damage, and it costs little. It's probably the most lag-inducing power in the game, as it has a shitload of particle FX. Repels, final pulse has Knockback on nearby foes.

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-18-11.jpg

Here's the same with a colour hue demonstration.

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-18-38.jpg

Whirlwind. It's in the Snowstorm family, being pretty crap for dealing damage, but the attack Snares all enemies in it. Pretty shit IMO.

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-19-11.jpg

This is Updraft. It's the first Charged ranged knock-up attack. Best part of it is that it can remove travel powers and deal good damage.

Djinn Air Elemental, controllable pet. These are the three looks it can have at Rank 3.

This is Gust, the Tier 0 power for Wind. It's probably the best Tier 0, as it has decent damage, it's cheap and it charges REALLY fast. Also, looks like a Hadouken, repels enemies, and knocks down Disoriented enemies.

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-22-01.jpg

This is the aura for Stormbringer, the passive for Wind. It's probably the most awesome Offensive Passive, as it covers three types of damage (Crushing, Ice and Electricity).

This is Twister. It's a standard charged Paralyze power, and has no extra goodies.

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-23-37.jpg

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-23-47.jpg

Those small tornados are Dust Devil powers, which are small "summons" that deal damage nearby and Disorient.

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-23-55.jpg

screenshot_2011-12-27-01-23-58.jpg

Wind Breath, looks absolutely fantastic. Standard damage, but splits damage between Crushing and Cold. Can cancel travel powers with an advantage and cause Knockdown with another.

And finally, Typhoon. This is a wicked cool looking power, and a great line AoE that's main weakness is Damage Reduction powers due to splitting its damage between Crushing and Ice.

Server was fucking with me and I couldn't log in. In any case, I was about to tell you that I wanted to try some STO and would join you later or tomorrow.

Lots of  and :salute: for helping me with my character's powers.

Try out Ego Blade Annihillation and compare it to Breach. If you think one is making the other redundant, you can use the free retcon you get at level 40 if you want to optimize your build.

Breach and Annihilation are essentially massive damage for one-on-ones aren't they ? Which leads to me to a similar problem I had with my blade. The final attack and a previous one are both heavy hitters, but I only really have enough energy to pull off one of the two when I raise my energy meter, I don't see the point in taking two of these attack types.

I meant that you should try it out and see which do you think it better for you. When you reach level 40, you can use the free retcon to create the optimum build.

It isn't bad, but the action is a little bit too pacey at times, I can't get used to it. Action MMO seems like a good idea, but when the animations are affected by latency, it felt very off putting. I did play archer and got bored with the repetitive spam to lvl 30. Still, it's free.

Ugh, have hardly had any time lately to play anything, including Champions. First month of the year is always a horrible one.

I'm having troubles adjusting to life without Double XP myself. Oh well, the Anniversary Event that's coming up this month will probably have Double XP.

Fuuu...Hard to juggle CO, SWToR and CDS MP sessions all at once. I keep saying I'll continue with CO, but receive an invite to an MP session all the time. :(

Alright, Earth powerset is imminent any day now. Release window for the patch is 17-19, so my educated guess is tomorrow.

Earth set is live, and here's pics of all the powers except the Block power Earth Shroud. Earth is surprisingly the first Ranged-heavy Brick powerset, and uses a new mechanic called Stagger that reduces damage resistance on the target. By far the best use is that you can convert Stagger stacks to Enrage stacks, meaning mucho grande damage output.

Anyway, review of the powers, in order:

First is Upheaval. It's a melee single target charge attack (can become Ranged with an advantage), with a lower max damage than usual. HOWEVER it's very cheap and extremely spammable due to short activation time, and can be used to build Aggressor helluva fast. A pretty good power.

Next is Cave In, a high damage ranged charge attack. The big thing for this power is that with an advantage it can exchange Stagger stacks (standard stack for Earth, reduces movement and damage resistance on the target) into Enrage stacks, meaning it's the single biggest source of Enrage in the game if comboed properly.

Onslaught is a melee click AoE with decent damage output compared to most of its kind. The big thing is that it can take an advantage that causes Knockdown and double damage when it causes Stagger, and it causes a lot of Staggers.

Quicksand is a standard Maintain AoE, slightly lower damage than average. However, it reduces movement speed. Ultimately it's decent enough to warrant use.

Stone Shot is slightly better than the usual Tier 0 charge powers, because it can spam Stagger, has higher damage and charges faster than usual.

Fault Line is a ranged charge that knocks the main target up and those near it back. Usual fare, other than the fact it knocks around in a 360 degree spread.

Tremor is a charged line AoE. Has decent damage for a Tier 1, cheap, and Knocks up.

Seismic Smash is an odd one. It's got good damage, but it's a short range charged AoE Lunge. Not sure of its merits without combo. Has a cooldown.

Fissure is the big ranged AoE, and comes with a cooldown. Deals both Crushing and Fire Damage.

Stone Shroud had an effect with one other power, forgot what. Otherwise it's a standard block without special traits.

Wield Earth is an energy builder that has both a melee and a ranged animation and effect. It can cause Stagger on the first hit, meaning it's very good for Stagger combo builds.
