Y'know, Brian's stated rule of "a Kickstarter title should not be your first game" seems to hold up more and more as time passes. Something to keep in mind when backing, for sure. That rule doesn't necessarily cover the really small indies, obviously, but it definitely applies to big, ambitious projects. It really shouldn't be. Ideally the studio/team should have been together some time.

Ah well.

Doesn't even sound like this was to produce a game. They were looking to fund a proof of concept so they could, in turn, pitch that to private investors.

Don't support this, it uses motion controls. Like the Kinect or Wii controller.

Final Update

Last year, Subutai Corporation delivered the CLANG prototype and the other donor rewards as promised. The prototype was technically innovative, but it wasn't very fun to play. This is for various reasons. Some of these were beyond our control. Others are my responsibility in that I probably focused too much on historical accuracy and not enough on making it sufficiently fun.
...
By combing through comment threads and emails we have identified around two dozen CLANG backers who have asked for refunds. Those have already been processed; those people have their money back (about $700 altogether).

That 8:40 kill is majestic.

All in all, looks like a very historically accurate awkward fumbling simulator. Oh well, it was TGTBT anyway.

Had never heard of this one before, and glad I didn't. Neal Stephenson...the author.. fencing sim? Plus it failed? Wow, sad.

Why not a Snow Crash adventure game or something of substance? With all the things this guy has written, he wanted to make a fucking generic sword fighting game? No thanks, I already have Bushido Blade. This was as stupid as Clive Barker and that retarded Jericho popamoler. What a waste of writing talents who could be contributing in areas where embarrassing hacks like Gaider have flourished.

The saddest part of all this is that nobody recognized the Kickstarter footage as being from Blade Symphony, which is a legitimately good game (and ran a kickstarter around the same time, if you want double lulz).
