Codex Playground could do with CYOA subboard

At this stage we have enough CYOAs muddying up the playground that I think it's better off to leave the playground to LPs and CYOAs to their own board.

Can we have an Assassin's Creed subforum in General Gaming? I know for a fact that I and many others have several distinctly separate Assassin's Creed related topics we would like to discuss. A megathread would be a mess and those who appreciate Assassin's Creed less might not appreciate the entire front page of GG being taken over by this most excellent series. So far I have held off on starting some of the Assassin's Creed threads I have planned for this reason, but enthusiasm will eventually get the better of me or another True Fan I am sure, so it might be best to have the subforum prepared in advance.

Hi there. Sorry for necroing the thread.

I think at this point it is safe to say that the CYOA subforum experiment has kind of failed. The number of people participating has steadily declined. The situation is not unique to the Codex, though. Whatever communities I've seen face a similar problem - when they separate something into a subforum, only people who were already interested in it in the first place will click the extra button, and no new people come over 'by accident', meaning the subforum stagnates pretty fast if there is no overwhelming amount of activity to begin with.

Codex is known for their LPs, not CYOAs. Most people interested in experiencing games in text rather than in the video form hang out in the Playground.

Perhaps it might be time to take a look at what happened, tag all topics in the subforum as CYOAs for ease of navigation, and release them back into the Playground?

I have made adjustments.
Which ones?

I know it's probably Crooked Bee whose opinion will be the deciding factor (since she is a moderator), but... I think we have enough data to conclude things didn't work out. It's not limited to the Codex, either.

I think it's just a shame that on a forum that starts breathing heavily at a mere mention of Planescape, the CYOA inspired by it only had two voters until we started tagging people. There is no visibility at all.

I know there's been a lot of trolling and drama concerning the subforums, but I have never been a part of it. It is a serious proposal.

I still check out the CYOA board from time to time. And personally I no longer participate in any CYOAs because none of them catch my interest. I think one of the main reasons why there is a decline is because we had some extraordinarily interesting and popular CYOAs in the past. And I don't think merging CYOAs back into the playground will fix that. Right now treave's latest CYOA is a meandering pointless romp as far as I can tell, and the other CYOAs aren't too interesting either.

So, the short of it is: If you want more participation, run CYOAs that are less shit.
