The decline started when they split into 2 spinoffs instead of tackling the sequel. They could have recouped with one game, with what they learned from Daggerfall, because that's what people wanted.

What they had learned with Daggerfall was not to aim too high. Terribly buggy release, even though lots of stuff even got cut, etc.

Daggerfall was like, the last RPG fan project Bethesda did. Something that was done by people who were genuinely interested in the genre.

They didn't learn not to aim too high, they learned not to aim high in the first place.

Its telling how on modern Bethesda games Howard the Toad admitted to looking first how to simplify things and take out stuff before adding, it is as if he was looking for the most barebone approach on purpuse.... it is clear he has no fucking appreciation for any skill classic roleplaying systems

I want a new game that takes the spirit of Daggerfall as a fantasy life simulator. But not the execution. It's a clunky broken mess that relied way too heavily on procgen for my tastes. If you could combine the quality and uniqueness of lore and environments of MW with the basic gameplay of Daggerfall and commitment to huge worldspace with fleshed out things to do. You get a perfect game in my opinion.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
If they had tried to fill Daggerfall's playable area with unique, hand-crafted content, they'd still be making it today.

They didn't learn not to aim too high, they learned not to aim high in the first place.

And after Morrowind, they learned to not aim at all.

People are finally starting to realize that DF is the best.... Next step is to acknowledge that Morrowind is actually the worst of the series...

God damn, you're still here?
