No, Morrowind was exclusively designed for this:

No, Morrowind was exclusively designed for this:

Console games don't have resizable window UIs with drag-and-drop-based grid inventories.

So if a Developer actually spends time on doing a good PC UI for a console game.... it is then specifically designed for the PC?

The game came out on PC first, so that would strongly suggest it was designed first and foremost for that platform. There have also been interviews that revealed that the decision to make the game multiplatform came in the middle of its development cycle.

Jaesun logic: if it comes out on PC first and then console, it's a console game!

Unfortunately you are forgetting all those ads for it as an XBox exclusive.

It has and always was #1 designed for the XBox.

I remember reading an interview somewhere where Ken Rolston(?) said he didn't believe a console version of Morrowind would work, but Todd Howard pushed it through. That would indicate that the decision to make a console version came somewhere in the middle of the game's development cycle.

Can anybody find it?

Either we have rules for classifying threads

or we do that at random.
:greatjob:

BRO, it's like you registered in 2010 or something.
Why don't you fuckers appreciate all the effort Jaesun makes to create a perfect, decline-free cRPG Discussion?

:rpgcodex:

Oh, and let's not forget: System Shock 2 is a glorius cRPG (since it's a PC-exclusive?), while Deus Ex is shitty general game (probably because of the PS2 port?).
So, again: SS2 > DX1. Suck it down, ghostdog.

Unfortunately you are forgetting all those ads for it as an XBox exclusive.

And you're taking those ads seriously even though they were outright lies? THE GAME CAME OUT ON PC FIRST FFS.

It's not really even a lie, Xbox exclusive just meant that it wasn't coming for the PS2 or GameCube. It's basically always been a form of competition between the console manufacturers so the PC isn't even taken into account.

Thanks for reminding me, Deus Ex [...] threads should be in General RPG Discussion too.
The fuck are you talking about, DX1 is clearly a shitty multiplatform game!
"Developer actually spending time on doing a good PC UI for a console game" doesn't make it a cRPG...
And knowing Spector, he most likely aimed for multiplatform releases since UU2.

While you at it, move X-Com threads from Strategy to Popamole subforum (PS1 port) and everything Monkey Island related should go from Adventure to Weeboo (FM-Towns port).

:smug:

I don't give a damn really, just stop pretending that there are any universal rules of moving content between subforums (except mods' views).

Morrowind was the first small step of the Elder Scrolls series into decline by making compromises for the first Xbawks. It was a small step compared to Oblivion and what would come after, but from small steps does the greatest decline happen, and after it, there was no turning back.

Why don't you fuckers appreciate all the effort Jaesun makes to create a perfect, decline-free cRPG Discussion?

The state of cRPG Discussion should reflect the state of the CRPG genre(and of what is labelled as such) as of late, rather than be a whitewashed illusion.

:balance: :hearnoevil:

The only way to have a decline-free CRPG Discussion is not posting in it but leaving it as a glorified mausoleum of better times until the first major Kickstarter CRPGs get released, and considering the odds of many going sour...

Some edgy moderator has moved the Diablo III thread to Made for Console Popamole RPGs section, even though the game does not fit the description of that section.

For all those modern RPGs that have been designed for consoles as their target audience. Includes console only titles and games that had a multi-platform release on launch day.

Please fix (either the classification or the description). Thanks in advance.
To be honest, "includes" has an implicit condition of "but not limited to", meaning the classification is open to interpretation. And that is not really a good thing if classifications are to kept objective.

Sorry, but by the definite definition of cRPG I have personally concocted, I don't consider DX to really be a cRPG. Of course neither SS2 is a cRPG. For a game to be a cRPG you need turn based combat and at least 10 diverse stats. You also need meaningful character progression over time, more than 10 combat and social skills, a reputation system, non linear storyline, tasteful rape, and of course the game must be made for DOS, no windows popamole is accepted.

Thus, the only true cRPG in existence is Princess Maker 2.

What is a Role-playing Game?

A Role-playing Game, in the broadest sense, is a simulation of a strange and often alien world or experience.

Diablo III's generica doesn't even live up to this nebulous definition.

Diablo 3 clearly plays (significantly) better on a console than a PC, and is therefore a console game. There's also significant evidence that it was either designed from the start to have a console release or massively re-tooled midway into development for the same.

Diablo 3 however is certainly not an RPG or an ARPG, unless you would consider Hexen to be an ARPG.

Morrowind was the first small step of the Elder Scrolls series into decline by making compromises to beat the NWN to release.
Fix'd.

But no matter how much decline NWN has brought, it's still not a console.

PoE and Diablo (I II III) are Action RPGs
Diablo 3 isn't an RPG, action or not, because it has no RPG features.

It's as simple as that.
