Did they do any optimization? Divinity 2 was choppy and stuttery back when I tried it, don't think my 9600gt could handle it or something.

What exactly are the content changes they mention? Is the game sufficiently different from ED to warrant a replay? I got bored and quit somewhere halfway through iirc. Or should I start directly with the expansion?

No. The optimization is non-existent. They also locked framerate to 30 just like on consoles.

They made some graphics improvements, which are applied whether you buy the complete re-release or the expansion. Note that at the moment these "improvements" also bring with them a 30fps framerate cap for some stupid reason.

They also did some re-balancing and tweaking of the difficulty, scaling and items... this only applies if you buy the re-release, or wait for the fabled patch that turns the expansion and original release into the re-release. From everything I am reading on their official forum though it seems like "re-balancing" means "streamlining and simplifying." There's all these console 'tards on their forum saying shit like "yay finally I can go into _____ ______ at the start of the game and not get killed!" or "yay, amazing armor set right at the start of the game makes me almost invincible!" To me it seems like the original version might be better.

It also seems like the main appeal of the complete re-release is improvements to the console version, which I gather looked, ran and controlled like complete shit before. Now it runs at a "smooth" 30fps and has better menus and controls.

Bascially, as a summary, they streamlined and consolized Ego Draconis and then called it a remaster.

Was a stupid question, I realize now. Ofc there wouldn't be any major content changes, just tweaks and gfx improvements.

I've torrented DKS meanwhile. Still no autorun hotkey so you can't play with only one hand. Meh. :(

If you hated the original this won't change your mind.

I liked it because it's a fun (i.e. not a diablo clone) action RPG with humor and excellent voice acting and music.

Reminds me more of Lands of Lore 2/3 than anything else. If you didn't like those, you won't like this.

I'm 16 hours into Ego Draconis and I can tell you that set items now drop about as often as regular items do.

Heck, by level 12 you'll be using the full Guard armour set which has some pretty good bonuses, and by level 15 you'll be using that Steam armour... but I can tell you that the armour doesn't mean shit when you play on hard difficulty.

If you want a streamlined shit-sperience, play on Normal difficulty, where the set items actually does turn you into juggernaut of doom.

Ps. I still love the game, and it's leagues better than any CRPG that Amerikwa would shit out.

My biggest problem with the game right now (apart from an ultrashitty optimization) is the german design of quests. Why give you multiple options of completing them when most of the time they just lead to the failure of the quest with you getting barely anything in return (if none) - if you decide to do not like the quest-giver wants you to.

1. For instance: If you choose to read a certain ancient tome, thus granting you several skill points, but the tome is destroyed in the process and the bloke who wanted the blasted thing in the first place won't be very happy about that.

You fail the quest when you return and you get no experience points.

2. Extorting the Farmer who killed somebody who was hitting on his wife, and then telling him to cough up more dosh or you'll tell the guard.

You get less exp than you would have got if you just turned him in without talking to him, and he attacks you, causing the quest to fail after you kill him.

But I don't see any consequences. Either I do quest in the single possible way or I don't do it at all and beyond that the most I can count on is either a drop or raise of the storekeeper's prices if I did a quest for one.

Ah but I forgot you are talking about your newfag LARPing called "C&C". So no, dear moron, in my understanding C&C mean multiple paths through a quest bearing different outcomes not thinking "why should I be an idiot and not take a reward as there is no reason not to?"

The only choices you have in a quest is either to get a reward or not. And that's it. There is nothing else. That's your only consequence too - a reward or the lack of it. And let me ask you which one of two will you always choose?

Play some more. There's lots of little choices that don't really matter but also some major ones in between. That there are options at all is commendable for that kind of game.

Not all quests are like that "reward or not" of course. But the majority of them are. And that's a pity. There is too much lost potential.

For example:

I come to a bandit camp and noone even reacts that I just wiped out every single bandit in the area to get there.

I then kill their leader in the temple and noone reacts to that too. The chick at the entrance even refuses to believe me - considering that in a vilage 3 km away the head of the guard says that he has it confirmed that I was the one wiping out the leader.

Then I rob the caravan together with bandits killing merchants and their New Order escort (the one that guards the village). I then head back to the village hoping that I will have some problems but nooo. Nobody cares about the killer of their brethren (they act like nothing happened).

I mean here I was doing quests for bandits and New Order at once and nobody even cared (apart from the dragon chick verbally making fun of me helping teh baddies - and that's it)

Then I do the quest to protect a family from assassins which were hunting them for three generations because the father killed one of the assassins in their guild. I kill two of them. And what do you think happens?

Now imagine how it would've been if Troika did it :smug:

A pity really, the game needs more creativity. So far it's mediocre.

The game inclines greatly the moment you arrive on the Sentinel Island (picking servants and doing shit in the tower helping you with the game is a great idea). Unfortunately only quests related to the main plotline are that good. Would've been nice if they just concentrated on making the combat better (more diablo-meaty - aka more mobs but less powerful) and ditching about a half of side-quests that are nothing but filler but must be done due to XP

C&C stands for LARPing among the 'Dex today no? Aka pretending that some flavour stuff is more than just a cover up for a single way to do stuff in a game.
