I've always seen mobas as popamole garbage for people too dumb to play a real RTS but I've also never played one.

Will Dota 2 change my mind? I've heard it's the deepest game in its genre.
Word of advice if you don't have 4 other people to play the game with don't bother.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Congrats to the winner of TI7
ez 3-0 for team liquid. Newbee always choked playing against Liquid, so it's not so surprising. I think LFY v Liquid was the real final.

I could never recommend Dota to anyone because it requires such an obscene time commitment, and even when you do sink 5,000 hours of your life into it it's more often than not a source of extreme frustration - even when you only play with friends.

However, I consider it to be the best game I've ever played, even if I hardly play it anymore. It's a tough life.

I would say that while you're learning, the game is very fun and there's always some cool new shit that you're discovering. You don't mind dumb mistakes so much because you make a lot of them and you're always 'moving forward' in a way. However, there's a huge plateau (we're talking many thousands of hours here) where you think you know everything about the game and try to play the game for everyone on your team and get frustrated at everything. Most of the people playing Dota are like this, and therefore most games are shitfests. It takes a long time and perseverance to climb over this hump, and I'm not sure that it's worth it.

That said, there is zero reason to play another Dota-style game. Zero. Dota is vastly superior to all of them, in every way.

I really don't get the Bloodseeker hard-on that Chinese teams had. Liquid destroyed that shit. I still think it's a very fringe situational hero, but he was being second picked before seeing the opposing carry. WTF?

It did amazingly well when they beat LFY though.

That's why I said I don't get it. Must be one of those things that works vs. Chinese teams for some weird reason.

It works very well because the current meta is very focused on early teamfighting / ganks. Bloodcyka is an excellent mid game hero and can make kills happen anywhere in the map, and if he does then he can snowball into an unstoppable late game carry. Liquid subverted that trend by picking Nature's Prophet for Mindcontrol which is the single best player with it, knocking down T1 towers as early as 3 mins in on one game. The early gold advantage swung the advantage in Liquid's favor when the first teamfights happened. Of course there are more factors to be considered, but cyka games are meant to be won early and hard, and Liquid's strategy effectively neutered it.

Dumb ass TI panels will pick Miracle as the MVP of the series because anyone who mouthbreathes can see the K/D board and pick the guy with the most kills, but PPD was right that it was MindControl that secured Liquid's games with his amazing (and soon to be nerfed) NP.

The 3 min tower thing was vs. Morphling, not BS, wasn't it? Anyway yeah, BS is a lane winning hero but he's also crazy reliant on snowball to have a true impact on the game, I feel like if you don't win your lane superhard then the hero is just shit forever. He doesn't push towers and he's only good at defending at level 25. Liquid had awesome rotations and dealt with it very well - maybe it works better against teams that want to rice all day.

I agree that Mind Conrtrol was the player of the tournament, dude was amazing on everything - especially on Shaker. Those echos on the backline were a thing of beauty.

Now comes the Post-TI shuffle, the next couple of weeks should be interesting.

I always enjoy those shuffles, they keep following the pro scene fresh.

The pro scene is getting fresher every year with more and more good teams competing.

We had literally whos contest a major this year. We had literally whos win a TI.

I completely forgot to watch any of TI7 and realized how much I miss this game while trying to figure out what all happened. I noticed Kuro got himself a shield. That CnCnCnCnC kid is apparently still a cunt. Anything else fun happen?

The "true" final was lower bracket LFY vs Liquid. Newbee... didn't put much of a fight vs Liquid.

Besides that, not much. Ana (OG midlanerr) is taking a break this season. EG dismal performance was blamed on Cr1t, seemed the team will kick him. Rumors abound that salt king ppd will be playing again this year. And of course other post TI shuffle things.

We will be having 2 new heroes. A pangolin fencer and some kind of fairy.

2017/2018 competitive season seemed quite busy with at least 11 major (basically total prizepool over 1 million USD) and 11 minors. Other tournaments are still possible. The earliest minor will be in early October.

Hey, you forgot about Artifact!

No, but seriously, 2 new heroes and a change to the Major system. I consider that a pretty big deal.

Of course we don't know much right now. Lots of rumors about the shuffle, and no information about Dueling Fates.

Even though I understand this type of game needs new heroes to keep interest level high, I kind of resent new heroes coming out in Dota. Game balance is at an all-time high (I can't remember a more even patch) and I feel they will invariably be of inferior quality to older heroes and will quite possibly be broken for a long time after release (see Monkey King).

I'm looking forward to new heroes.

Sure, they'll probably need some tweaking, but I don't get the preconception that new heroes will be worse than the old ones (see Techies).

I do feel like the models look a bit too cartoony for my taste though.

This thread is dead, eh? Does anyone here even play Dota anymore?

http://blog.dota2.com/2017/10/7-07-update-the-dueling-fates/

7.07 coming out tomorrow, it's already out on Test. New heroes seem pretty fun, a lot of new talents that might break everything:

https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/79sav2/visualizationof_the_cooler_new_talents/

As I had predicted, Talents seem to be the main way of balancing heroes now, as opposed to changing values on the skills themselves.

New items seem cool, some items were removed (like the obscenely powerful Poor Man's Shield, good riddance), map changes are interesting... Roshan drops a single-use Refresher upon its 3rd death, which is likely going to be massive.

A very important change for me is the introduction of seasons for ranked ladder - 6 month seasons is going to go a long way towards improving matchmaking and cutting down on account buyers (which is a very prevalent problem in the 5k bracket especially). Looking forward to playing ranked, which is something I never thought I'd say.

I do
Shit is bonker
In general incredible buff on illusion and evasion hero
Faceless void Backtrack is back
Played on test client and CORE BANE is absolutely bonker.

But yeah, seasonal MMR is good.

On the other hand we have daily bonus heroes which give mango. WTF Valve. You want your "10 free hero rotation" system other MOBA so much in Dota that you put this shit in?

I kinda stopped playing for a bit when I dropped from 5.1k to 4.5k MMR, though I'd probably get back into it once the new patch hits. Really hard to tell how strong the new heroes will be, even now people are still trying to settle on what role MK should be best played as. Curious to know how the new seasonal MMR will work though.

MK is a core now no doubt. Nobody play him as roaming pos 4 in pro games or pub. He can be played as 1, 2 , 3 depending on you needs and laning matchup which makes him strong.

I'm not bothered by the 10 free mango heroes a day and I think it was introduced to promote some variety in picks, which is a good thing. I don't think it has anything to do with LoL.

ABILITY DRAFT UPDATE
Ability Draft has been updated with a completely new draft interface. Plus, players can now swap the hotkey order of abilities and chat with their teammates during the draft. We've also added support for fifteen previously-unusable heroes, and fixed abnormal behavior with multiple others. Think you can build a godlike set of killer abilities? Queue up and find out.

Looks pretty good so far, haven't played dota at all for the last 3-5 months (give or take). Addition of Turbo (em) mode is neat, I just hope it's not too fast, but more in vein of that somewhat recent patch, when passive gold was out of control, games lasted like 30-35 minutes tops and there were plenty of action all over the place (50+ kills per game).

AD imrpovements are always welcome too. Not to mention a bunch of other shit (including 2 heroes) to shake up the meta and make things fun (and broken) again for a little while.

I was expecting way less tbh, pleasantly surprised.
