All right its fucking damn good game, if you hesitate to get a console now you get two reason to get it. I have not had that much fun since dark souls, its an action rpg thats fore sure , much easier than DS, but much harder than lets say skyrim. Pretty much everything about the game is positive , i am not even getting framerates issues and slow down, no idea why, maybe it gets better on latest model of pS3, i dont know.Dont hesitate guys, its so much , so much more fun to play this than the latest bunch of pc games . Only thing i missing is a big manual with all the classes skills , number of character points in total by the end and a cloth map.

I concur, the game is really good.

Though there are some...weird things that are not clear as to what is happening.

For example, at one point in the game you receive a "Wyrm Hunt License". This license apparently lets your receive 4 or 5 quests from a knight outside the castle and it supposedly gives you a store discount. I don't think any of that actually requires the license.

Now here is weird part, after doing one or two of those quests, the knight then tells you that you can now meet the duke, but you will have to give up the license and any quest you are undertaking will be forfeit.

I finally did that, and while I did lose the license, none of my quests were cancelled.

Crafting also seems to be of dubious value. I basically just pick everything up and then shove it into the inn storeroom.

Still, as my wife would attest to, this is the best game I have played on the xbox since either Dark Souls or Red Dead Redemption... maybe THE BEST game. Yeah, there are some rough edges here and there, but so much of it is just absolutely compelling.

If you don't have the license in your inventory, he won't talk to you about the quests.

People that leave default Pawn reviews with no comment really grind my gears. Also, my tank pawn keeps getting hired at a rate that far exceeds the support mage pawn I had before I restarted. I restarted as a Strider, the lack of HP makes the combat more exciting (so far).

I think losing the license only cancels quests from NPCs, not Notice Board quests. Also, you can do all of the Wyrm Hunting quests before meeting the duke if you'd like.

Calling this game the best is a bit of a stretch at least for me. Nothing will come close to Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. Still, this is a game of great value, technical issues aside. The only thing that really pisses me off, aside from the wonky aiming, are flying monsters. Herp derp hey Arisen why don't you just watch me fly around for a while. Don't I look cool when I swoop around? Grrrr. Also had a Gryphon attack me and then fly away, never to be seen again. This shit doesn't happen with normal monsters who don't possess something as shitty as wings. Next time I'll burn them.

Solution to your problem with monsters flying away: Great Sacrifice Arrow. Dead monsters can't fly anywhere.

I actually like this more than the Souls games, so far. This games wins for me based on the party-oriented combat, the much more open world, the exploration, and the sense of adventure. It has a very D&Dish adventurous feel to it, while the Souls games have more of a roguelike survival feel. Fighting a cyclops and seeing two of my pawns clinging too it for dear life and the other one readying a spell is a beautiful sight. Both games serious technical issues. They both have cameras that can get you killed. This game has clipping out of its ass, Dark Souls has 10FPS Town. All three games are some of my favorite action games ever. The Souls games definitely win on difficulty, I felt Dragon's Dogma was too easy before I restarted (though it may partially be my fault for doing way too many side-quests). I also think the character advancement could use some work and that the weapon options are way too limited.

The aiming also feels a little wonky to me because it's really slow. Aiming my bow is like aiming a cannon.

I think a griffon swooping down on you and then flying off once it realizes you're not easy pickings is awesome, and that kind of detail (and things like lizard men basking on rocks in the sunlight) is one of my favorite things about this game.

Ah, see, it isn't clear. There are several small issues like that that I have with the game or the translation... or some conveyance of the mechanics.

Doesn't stop this game from being great.

Does anyone actually use consumables besides the curative ones? I have tons and tons of peripats... I never use them. I also all sorts of potions that I never use. Has anyone found something compelling about crafting other than the curatives to cure my wounds back up to max?

I do not find myself challenged by flying creatures AT ALL. I am playing as a Ranger and flying creatures die EASY.

Anyway, I love the game. Dark Souls was also fantastic, also. There is room for more than one fantastic game.

I had the same thing. The Griffin was attacking the buffalo like creatures that were walking around. It spooked them so much they started attacking me and my party.

Also, I tried to climb one of the buffalo like you do the cyclops, hysterical. I felt like I was Luke Perry in 7 Seconds.

Yeah, I've seen a griffin swoop down and carry the buffaloes off like an eagle would do a rabbit. I was pretty impressed.

On the hydra head escort thing, I climbed onto the buffalo thing pulling the cart and hung off it's face and crawled all over it like some epileptic spider for half the trip. Laughed my fucking ass off.

did you try to see if giving him a forgery has any effect? also, speaking of the wyrm hunt, did any of you bring a wakestone to the excavation mission to try and res the dead monk near the cyclops?

I think that if your Pawn dies while in the employ of someone, you end up with just a default review.

    I'm a Sorcerer.

For me the aiming breaks down when I'm about to release a High Ingle on, say, an archer, and then after one fireball my dude turns 180 degrees and lays the rest of the balls on someone else, thus not killing the archer. This has happened to me so many times that it is a legit problem rather than a nitpick.

Well, I guess I've got a few names to cross off my of "Hurt My Feelings" list.

That does sound annoying. I've never played a mage, so I never encountered this.

It's less reliable in some cases (like enemies moving about) but you can manually aim your magic by pressing L3 while it's charging. I get the target switching thing sometimes too and it's annoying as fuck, yes.

I guess I lucked out because my main pawn is my caster (since I have never really enjoyed playing a caster) and the AI is very competent at both combat and support. I can see how that would be annoying though.

Jasede - I like the fact that I also used also to many times... also. ;) Seriously though, I could not be happier to have MORE excellent games to choose from.

Just beat my first Drake. Found one wandering around the Shadow Fort. Needless to say, it was a much more satisfying fight than any Dragon fight in Skyrim :smug:. One well placed Gicel in its chest knocked down a whole health bar from the Drake. Luckily after beating him my Staff became dragonforged. It has pretty badass stats now. The only thing that rustled my jimmies in this fight was how useless my pawns were, other than my healer. My main pawn and ranger did nothing despite my healer yelling that you need to attack the chest to deal damage.

Edit: And then I met my first Golem, which I ended up running away from. :M
If I didn't like the Gryphon fight, then this was many times worse. What the fuck do the devs expect me to do as a Magic User? I just stood there shooting my magical pebbles from my staff while hoping that my pawns would kill it, which never happened. Felt pointless standing there with my pawns not getting any results so I just ran for it in the end.

strider vocations can be pretty useful against it once they have some experience with drakes and start spamming 100 kisses on the heart.

I believe you're supposed to shoot at the glowing gems strewn across its body.

And that's kinda weird because my pawns always are good at doing hurting my enemies.

True codexers don't own consoles, they get them from ill-meaning relatives. and in that case put them in "storage".

Oh I know you are supposed to destroy the glowing gems. But what point is there to try and kill the Golem when my staff does microscopic damage to the Golem's health and my pawns jump around like Gorillas. Oh well, I'll just have to figure something out later. Hopefully someone will hire my pawn and kill a Golem with him so he'll gain some knowledge on how to fight them more properly.

Does anyone have any experience with the Mystic Knight? I'm kind of getting bored with my Magic User, and thinking of starting a new character and go with the Mystic Knight. It seems interesting to me at least, since it combines magic and melee. Magick Archer is another one I'm considering as well, although I think I might be leaning more toward the Mystic Knight since I want to be more up and personal with the monsters this time.
