I also want to throw a special shout out to lukaszek (Xirrantha) because of his very apparent knowledge with all the quests and his natural ability to power a party through them. If you want to level up quickly, try and get into one of his groups.

the middle was covered by the still fragile cleric, who did what he could to keep the group alive.

This was Mustawd, who came into DDO with zero knowledge of it or D&D for that matter but who has steadily and stoically improved his play with every session. Keep up the hard work, broface.

our 2 watchers in guild

Wait, what? You mean from RPGWATCH?!?

This poses a moral quandary on my part -- while their help and expertise is much appreciated, we have to draw the line regarding membership somewhere. If these two (and more like them) aren't offical Codexers that's one thing, but to let them into our midst... well, all of you please post your thoughts.

Allow? Boot 'em?

We must maintain normal relations with the Watchers, otherwise they won't receive our undesirables in the future. Where else would HHR vacation?

Also, we need people to battle in the D:OS 2 arena. Oh wait...:?

Let's consider them both (and anyone else we let in who aren't confirmed Codexians) on probation.

I may demote them from being officers to get the point across, as well.

Alright, got VIP this morning. The game really opens up past level 4. most npcs turn yellow and there are a ton of quests ive never done there. Ill save the f2p content to run with the guild. and will keep at least 2 of my characters below the guild average to make sure you guys always have someone to run with if im around.

Getting the hang of it. Crispy's quick and dirty tutorial and this video helped a lot.

General Question: Are all modern MMOs using this instance-type format where the world is cut up into small little compartments? Last MMO I played was vanilla WoW, and while there were some dungeons like that there was still a general PvE world out there that wasn't locked behind an instance. Just seems odd to me I guess.

Not all modern mmos, but certainly a good chunk of them

This format is great for DnD tho, because every story can be played separately and be handled more or less like a DM would, keeping outside influence restricted. Huge cities where you can run into people and small instances where you can quest, do skillchecks, etc.

Yes, I was thinking that totally made sense in the D&D context. Was just wondering if a lot of other MMOs did it as well.

Kinda, skyforge does this, revelation goes the open world approach, so does black desert. And lots in the future will embrace open world sandbox mechanics, because its what most mmo audiences are moving towards.

Btw last night we did a couple runs of stuff, was looking for you to do it but you left kinda early.

How many euro timezone people do we have?

Here. But my biorhythm is disgusting and changes rather often. Sometimes I'll get up like a normal person, sometimes I'll get up like a normal person living across the world.

Yah, I was on for an hour or so, but needed to take care of stuff like laundry and then move over all my porn backup files to my new external HD. I have a few small 50GB external HDs, but they're way too fragile and small, so I got a large TB one. Took about 1.5 hours to get everything on and reorganized.

By the time I jumped back online everyone had logged off. I'll be back online tonight though. Maybe around when Crispy will be playing.

I have a good idea, how about you guys stop playing DDO and everyone switches to Lotro. What say you?

All adventuring areas in DDO are instanced. However, there are quite a few of them such as Korthos Island that are much more open and spread out, so it's not like the only thing to do in the game is to trudge through dungeons.

The approach to this game always was "you take a six-character party and you go explore dangerous areas together and earn fame and fortune." As odd as it sounds, I think it's the very thing that gives DDO its somewhat unique quirkiness and appeal.

reroll as warforged sorcerer now that you have access.
you will be able to heal yourself, better hp pool and immunities. Also focus on conjuration instead of evocation - as wf you will have lower cha and evocation -> reflex save, which usually enemies got high. On the other hand conjuration got good damaging spells which will deal good amount of damage. Also web is conjuration and amazing cc. Remember that sorcerers are not DC casters so penalty to cha doesnt hurt you too much. Also one cant be DC caster without few past lives
I like my flesh just fine, thanks.

While I'm terribly excited to try out a new MMO, especially when it looks awesome as DDO, I'd gladly partake in this. Really liked that game, and I never experienced any group content except higher level guildies boosting me through low level dungeons. Now, this will hardly happen, but, perhaps once we tire out of DDO we could give LotRO a try. It's an interesting game, that's for sure. Doubt its gonna happen anytime soon tho.

Now, while it is slightly off topic, I have to tell a tale of an unsung great hero. It was the summertime, like 6 years ago, I was 16 and thus I had no credit card or a way to access one, since internet transaction became a doable thing here 2-3 years ago.

Thus i was doomed to play LotRO as a f2p, even tho I wanted to throw lots of money at the screen. Since I was completely f2p I had to manage my turbine points VERY carefully. Thank god, I had a bit of luck since I was able to buy just the areas i need during the discount promotions (I'm level fifty now, and I dont have nearly enough points to buy a level 50+ area. Oh look, they are giving a level 50-60 area for 50% of the price for 3 days.)

Now, this is where my memory gets a bit fuzzy. I know I've finished all Evendim quests, and that I have bought Angmar or Misty Mountains. Still, my level wasnt high enough to access Angmar or receive any of quests there or whatever. And I've done every single possible quest, except for a few of dungeon quests. Now, afair, those quests were the only means of obtaining xp, except grinding mobs or some other extremely time consuming shit like that. In short, i needed every single drop of xp i could get my hands on.

Finding a group on my low pop server was next to impossible, and even when I did find one, I was surrounded by retards. My guildies were extremely helpful as usual, and I know that they've helped me complete most of those quests. But, yet, one of the quests remained undone. It had to do something with killing some freaking annoying turtle, which was either the end boss of a wing, or near the very end. Cant remember why, but noone seemed able/wiling to help me with that one, except one dude.

He was freshly max level (50?60?cant remember) and the dungeon was for late 30s or so. Even tho he was max level, the dungeon was still extremely though for us, and we just couldnt manage to get that quest done. We couldnt kill that god damned turtle. Now, I seem to recall that it was possibly an optional fight or the quest required something optional. We ran that dungeon for like 3 hours, it was 5 in the morning, we tried 1000 different strategies, and we couldnt kill the darn thing. Finally, we crafted a perfect plan, but you had to do a whole lot of shit with surgical precision. It took us an hour to do everything according the plan. And there we were. We almost beat the god darn thing. He was at 10% and we've passed the dangerous spots, I was but a minute away from that sweet xp fix.

And then, my pc overheated. First things first, unholy amounts of rage were unleashed. I punched my pillow so fucking hard for god knows how long. I also couldn't turn my pc on for some reason, and when i finally did, it took unholy amount of time to boot. Dont know how much time passed, since i was in full berserk mode. At least 15 mins tho, since I've smoked 2 ciggies. Decided to log in to thank that guy, and to apologize for wasting his time.

So, I've logged in and my char was sent back to the beginning of the dungeon/in front of it. That guy was still on, and we were still in party. I thanked him in chat, said bb and stuff like that, but he didn't respond. Sent him a whisper, he still didn't respond, and he wasnt afk. Had no idea what the fuck was going on until I received a misspelled "get here" whisper from him. And i got there.

There he was, running in circles and kiting that fucker. He was doing that for 20 mins at least. And he had no idea where I've gone since overheating didnt happen to me often, he had no guarantee that I was going to show up, and he was there, kiting that disgusting fuckign turtle.

:salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute:

If I ever have to go to war, I want someone like him by my side. Sadly, he had no Skype or MSN and as such, we lost contact when he stopped playing. Still, such a bro. Such a fucking bro. /mantears
