Magic is boring in every PB game, you want to mano y mano. G3 is easier than G1/2 in melee combat and a bit more formulaic, but very fun still with fan patch.

On last G3 playthrough i mulched things with halberd (2/3 of game) and in the end i shishkebabed them with "fire rain"; do not remember if it was with or without fan patch. Still waiting for proper Gothic 3 saquel (in the same Universe).

I actually thought melee was a lot of fun in G1/G2 because of the timing requirements and how the protag's martial skills actually made him fight differently, rather than +DMG. I suppose I'm in the minority in that though. I also enjoyed a similar mechanism in AP, wherein you actually got more accurate as you invested in skills. Lots of people around here seemed to have hated that though and wanted it to play more like an Arpg not an aRPG.

^ Which is why Risen 1 has the best combat out of all PB games.

I am not very excited for this one. Risen 3 was OK at best (maybe I'll finish it for a more resolute opinion) but honestly The Witcher 3 kinda Trumps any recent PB game so they're gonna have to achieve some mad innovation for it to hold its own.

agree. the first risen combat was beautiful, especially when fighting melee with other humanoids. the combat is slow paced, but require alot of player skill and mastery instead of relying on stats, block, parrying, dodging was satisfying and effective. no dodge roll bullshit, just good side stepping for vertical strikes, backstepping for horizontal or thrusting attack, block light attack, dodge quick attacks. it's like they perfected gothic 2/3 formula, and shields was great addition too, adding more playstyle into the mix.

i actually liked risen 2 and 3, but the quality isn't just polished as risen 1

it looks very standard PB games so far. these 3 things will determine the game:

1. combat = they literally juts need to copy Risen 1's combat, that was perfect. add some decent shooting mechanics for firearm build, BAM.
2. world/exploration = seems heading the right direction by not splitting the map into multiple islands. now they have just to make greatly designed place, well placed enemies, loot and feel of progression
3. factions, world and quests = nothing we know so far aside from scifi version of snapper and scavenger, mechs, and sword and jetpacks.

edit: i didn't notice there was a video there lol. from what i've seen, the combat looks like risen 2/3, except more floaty, movement, especially jetpacks looks awkward, look, dodge roll is back! :( and oh god, the camera when he's fighting on the catwalk, is that what seizure feels like?

c'mon PB, i hope its because it is early build. it looks quite a mess, but i hope because it's just alpha version or so.

Not to sound like a homer, but most games look like shit 7-9 months before release. The player character has obviously some sort of immortality, so you wouldn't be playing like that for real.

PB makes games specifically for publishers, that sums up everything. Everything. :M

I thought publishers like games that actually sell? :smug:

To eductae y'all on which was better and why:

GODLIKE:
Gothic

REVELATION:
Gothic II + NOTR

(FLAWED) PROPHECY:
Gothic 3

GREAT ATMOSPHERE, SHIT GAMEPLAY:
Risen 3

GREAT GAMEPLAY, SHIT ATMOSPHERE:
Risen

WORST GAME I EVER PLAYED:
Risen 2

I am optimistic for Elex but still worried they just don't have the man power any more to fill out world spaces. As was said before.. Risen 1 suffers from complete lack of atmosphere or IMO sense of exploration outside the main city and Risen 2 devolved into Island Forest Corridors.

Risen 3 I barely even played.. the world design was a (small) step in the right direction.. but it doesn't come close to the wonders I experienced playing Gothic.

I'm sure their heart is in the right place but they just don't have the budget / man power to do it. I don't care if they reuse tree assets from Risen 2.. I want a fully fleshed out world, who gives a shit where the shrubs come from.

/rant.

Their idea of reactivity and alternate paths is just opening a door with lockpicking... You guys are expecting too much from a developer whose last two games were utter and complete shit.
