Inquisitor III (English) is out there
Ya playing it?
Meself, I've just finished with that (really fucking exhausting) dungeon beneath the cursed church. I do love how trollish the author must be: once you're done with said dungeon's boss fight, you are teleported back to the cemetery and awarded with... clusterfucky mass combat.

Tho, it is quite enjoyable so far, as well as surprisingly yuge. Exploration is first class by itself, and can be extremely rewarding.

Only a little, played on 3rd? difficulty and so far is not bullshit difficulty. Hope melee+crossbows build can finish game without spells.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I am yet get a crossbow or any other ranged weapon. It gets p repetitive, dealing with endless supply of zombies with sword only. And while I'm at that, cemetery can be kinda annoying, with zombies spawning every few steps and with loads of fences and debris, so it easy to be run in a corner and gangraped by enemies.
Only available side quests I haven't completed require me enter the chapel, and I'm still searching for key, so I'm guessing that crossbow is either reward in one of them or I will receive it regularly later on.

I'm playing Ultimate Simplicity.

Map layouts are, well, very simple but that's not a bad thing in this case. New textures are nice to look at and the architecture and detailing are solid. Levels flow nicely, encounters can be challenging but they're never over the top, author didn't go overboard with Arch-Viles and Revenants. The few new enemy types work well.

I just beat the first 7 levels on UV without having to resort to save scumming so the difficulty is just right for me.

edit: finished it, what a great wad with just a few small downsides:
-not enough secrets
-some annoying timed sequences
-the endboss is extremely challenging and not in a good way

I'm going with the same boring approach. So far, there was one enemy type in the catacombs that couldn't be harmed through physical attack and where the text urged me to use spells, but luckily shock bolts were sufficient replacement. Do be sure to carry a large supply before you venture into catacombs. Tho, I think I'll go for stats sufficient for some basic attack spells, just in case.

Now I feel dumb... that is dumber than usual. You don't need key to enter the temple. It's not that I ignored jumping since it is enabled by default and ties into one of the stats that can be upgraded, but I definitely didn't expect this sort of vertical exploration in a Doom mod.

Another (over)ambitious TC is in development, this time it is Quest for Glory TC for Hexen:

For once, it looks like author already did a bulk of the work before he publicly announced his project and is reasonably close to release.

I have the feeling I'm the only one in this thread who hasn't played all 29,349 WADs made before 2016...

BTW, what's the verdict on Eternal Doom from 1997?

Good for a 1997 mod. Still pretty decent now.

I never managed to finish it, but TBH it was always acquired taste. I guess it is worth trying if hunting obscurely placed switches on gigantic maps, that do something on some corner of the map, sounds like your cup of tea.

I've played the first three maps, and it's quite good so far. The puzzles so far has been logical enough, and all the new (mostly taken from Heretic/Hexen, though) artwork is nice. But in general my favourites are large, unlinear slaughtermaps (Hell Revealed is my favourite MegaWAD so far), so the Eternal maps feel rather underpopulated.

I recall Herian 2 being quite similar to Eternal Doom in its fantasy theme and exploration/puzzle aspect, all the while being heavier on combat. Ya might wanna check it out.
Tho, whereas Eternal Doom takes some time for its switch/key-hunts to become truly annoying, Herian 2 was like that from the very first map, don't be surprised if you find yourself stuck early on. But it was fun shit regardless of that, and it also did some cool tricks back in the day. I think it was the very first wad I've played with deep/faux-3D water.

Heh, I jinxed it. Now I'm stuck on map 4, after having obtained the Red Key, and having no idea where the Blue and Yellow ones are. Oh well, there's a detailed walkthrough on the Doom Wikia. Switch/key-hunts is not what I like most about Doom, but the Eternal levels so far has been pretty well designed, so it's bearable.

No not a buse. The character was p. much doomguy meets t-800 and played not much differently from that vid.

There were scientists that did nothing except walk around and you could just shoot and dismember them.

Alien Rampage had deliciously crunchy gore, and directional aiming rather than Abuse's free mouse aim, but it certainly doesn't fit your other criteria.
