GTA 1 and 2 had the best gameplay.

GTA1 gameplay was gross, but we played it due to its novelty. GTA2 was great tho. Having played GTA3 and Vice City, I'll say that GTA2 beats them both in gameplay and in atmosphere. From the GTA games I've played (GTA1 - 3: SA), San Andreas is the only one that beats it in atmosphere. Gameplay is similar to GTA3 and VC, but it has a bit of a more polished feel. Although shooting in any of those variants has sucked.
