PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I'm thinking of trying this game out. Can I acquire all heroes w/o paying 1000 bucks?

It would cost 296 USD to buy all 37 heroes, according to IGN

http://m.ign.com/wikis/heroes-of-the-storm/Pricing
But then unlocking everything IS nearly 1000$! LOL

Does it take a lot of time and grinding to unlock heroes with gold?

From what I hear it's like LoL except everything is on average 150% more expensive. HoTS is on the more expensive side of ASSFAGGOTS, if LoL was in the middle and smite and doto were on the other side.

Game is so dumbed down we may say it's lobotomized. Thus there's not much to talk about. There's plenty of similar crappy mobas for mobiles but this one got more attention because Blizzard.

So the only interest of this thread is to see if Brenner manages to pass the Turing test.

Nothing wrong with an easy game for some light hearted fun.

You earn at least 400g a day by playing three games. Prices for heroes range from 2000g to 10,000g. A rotating set of heroes is free to play each week. In my experience, just by playing the heroes up to level 5 as they are free you will obtain enough gold from one-time sources to buy all of the heroes that cost 4000g or less and two of the expensive ones.

If you care about stupid shit like alternate skins you will have to pay real money.

EDIT: To answer your other question, grinding isn't really a good idea. Gold per game is quite low compared to one-time sources and daily quests.

did they change that flying tiny Dragon with the last patch signficantly? i read some funny rants in some other forum but wasnt able to get behing all the fuzz

also, i kinda like the game. its easier to me to get into than LoL or Dota 2, but still feels deep enough (map objectives and character building via choosing different talents)

AND I CAN SMASH FACES WITH THE BUTCHER

Gold eventually starts piling up. Granted I've been playing since Tech Alpha but they reset everything about seven or eight months ago. I have around a dozen heroes (most of the ones I want) and 70,000 gold when I make up my mind about others. It takes them at least a month or more to release new ones. Good 'cheap' heroes:

2k - All of them are solid. Some people don't like Raynor but I think he's good.
4k - Anubarak, Tychus, Tassadar, Illidan (takes some finesse to play well)
7k - Falstad, Uther, Reghar, Zagara, Tyrande

For $5 you get a pack of Malfurion, Raynor, Muradin, and a fruity mount. A decent deal if you want to throw some cash into it.

Also they're currently doing a Derpablo promotion where, on top of the daily quests, you also get a bonus 100g quest to kill a treasure goblin (spawns at the start, easy to faceroll).

I started the game last night. So far it's fun.

That's all I look for in a game.

The game is definitely easier to get into than Dota 2.

As for the gold thing - I dunno. I only have a few hours in and the first few levels give gold rewards so one doesn't get an actual sense as to how gold flows later on. They have the heroes rotating on a free for a week schedule plus you can try out each hero to get a feel for them before committing.

Knowing Blizzard chances are in the future Collector's Editions of their various games will come with a hero token for Heroes of the Storm. That's just my speculation.

basically, you get gold 3 ways

-advancing in player level (by playing)
-leveling Heroes to 5 (and later 10) gives 500 gold
-doing daily quests (gives around 250ish median)
than there is a minor bonus for doing games (win 30/loss 20), but thats nothing to count on

i am playing since a week or so and got 15k ish gold so far, which should be enough to buy anything out of the rotation that i wanna play regulary

Gold unlocks aside (for player/hero levels), you'll average around 2,500 or so gold a week. If you're lucky with daily quests (get the 600-800 gold ones) possibly more. If for whatever reason you think you really love the game the $40 bundle for eight or so heroes, some skins, and the UNICORN mount is a decent deal.

Over time they lower hero prices. Stiches was once 10k and is now 7k. Anubarak was once 10k and is now 4k. Murky was once 10k and is now 7k. Etc. Of course, this only happens every 5-6 weeks when new heroes are added. New heroes are 15k for two weeks then reduced to 10k.

It already happened with Valla. If you didn't pre-order Diablo 3 you can still buy her with gold.

There's also a 'box' version of the game that costs around $40 and gives you a few codes for existing heroes and a mount you can't get any other way.

Maphacking is apparently a thing now in HoTS (mostly due to the SC2 engine). They really do a shitty job policing against bots and now cheats.

I played a few matches with friends last night, it was pretty fun, I have played Dota 1 and HoN closed beta before, and the biggest difference I felt was how everything was team-based. And I love it.

Log onto HotS for the first time in literally 4 or 5 months. There's only 3 new guys. One of them is some skrillex bitch with huge tankiness, an AoE attack that slows, a ranged AoE Blind that damages, an AoE pull in, decent damage, a massive self shield that breaks CC, a 20% self heal, a better version of sonya's ult, and has to be killed twice at level 20.

HMMMM.

Play a game as her. Do better than everyone else on my team in almost every metric despite having not played in 4 or 5 months.

Also turns out I picked the wrong ult - she has an even BETTER ult that's a chain stun that'll stun the 3/5's of the team in a teamfight.

Look at HotsLogs - Skrillex bitch is the third highest winrate character. Balance is still a joke. Looks like everyone who was good before like Stiches was kneejerk nerfed into oblivion. Read some forums - Skrillex bitch has been the most POWAHFUL since her release and they haven't addressed this.

Still no bans in ranked mode apparently, so statistically 70% of games have the same 3 characters in them. Same shit as before.

I don't know what I was expecting. Can't believe I used to play this game for a few hours every day.

(at least the UI looks cooler now)

Played 2 games, verdict: OK popamole fun. Better than Dota2 of course but that's not saying much.
Played a bit more than 2 games, same verdict.

Might not have a high skill ceiling or whatever, but eh, I don't really care about that. The fact that it skips almost straight to teamfights and has more offlane play, plus more than one map, makes it more fun than dota2 or lol.
