That's why I used quote marks around pro in my message - while I didn't mean the video to be as a serious argument, it still encompasses everything disgusting in the MOBA scene, such as the exalted "pro gamer" mentality and knowledge of the meta as a prime measure of the gamer's competence. Why develop actual skills when you can just play the game for countless hundreds of hours, after which you inevitably gain a lot of knowledge about the metagame. Such peculiarities show an inherent flaw in the core of MOBA genre itself, and I will gladly play any game that declines and casualizes this despicable genre.
Also lol A GAME FOR COOL ADULTS my sides
Game =/= "scene", "community", whatever the fuck you call it. I don't know if you are really that dense or just "trolling", which ironically makes you look like the person in the video that you despise so much.
FYI The only requirement to play dota on a decent enough level (or any mechanically "advanced" game/task for that matter) is having an attention span longer than that of a dead goldfish. Besides, pro meta is very different from what you usually see in a pub game. Pub's a shitfest, which might be a part of the charm i guess, since you can fuck around with all kinds of crazy builds, plays and combos. And on occasion people can come up with something like this:
Since dota actually uses Y axis for some abilities, you can pull units from below unto the ledge, which allows you to safely farm big camp of creeps as a hero who's not really well suited for doing so, whilst denying enemy's team XP gain. It's a clever use of game mechanics that doesn't require years of playtime, all you gotta do is pick a hero, see how his abilities work and apply a little bit of critical thinking to what you see in the game. It doesn't mean it can't get punished or countered though.
Pro scene on other hand revolves around certain set of strategies (early push, 4 protect 1, deathball, universal, etc.) that are pretty loose and shift quite often based on a current patch (which land somewhat frequently and shake things up a bit) or on a new build, underused hero/tactic that counters whatever's popular at the moment. Thanks to that, shit doesn't get stale for the most part.
Why develop actual skills when you can just play the game for countless hundreds of hours, after which you inevitably gain a lot of knowledge about the metagame.
There was a team once, that came out of nowhere and dominated the scene for a little while, but then was "patched out of the game". Meta knowledge means fuck all if you are a one-trick pony with no mechanical skill, game sense or proper strategy.
