Assassins Creed pretty much took this formula without the disguises and mechanics

The disguise mechanics in Ass Creed are there, just in the form of benches, static and ambulatory 'crowds' of 3 people and haystacks.

An in-flight assassination sounds like it would be a vignette more than a proper level; how big can a plane get? How many interesting branches would it have?

And how would you escape the level? Parachute from a passenger jet? Click on your assigned seat and blend in as a regular passenger - particularly effective if you got rid of the body so that it isn't found until you land? Maybe, rather, you could have the level start on the airport and you could choose to ambush your target before the flight.

Some of the Hitman: Contracts levels, in particular, did that - a roaming target would be enjoying leisure at some location, and change it from time to time, be it a toilet break, a sauna, or casino. The dentist in Traditions of the Trade, Fritz Fuchs, was like that - the problem was that he didn't rotate between locations particularly often. A savvy player who already knew the level, in order to perform a more interesting assassination than the tried-and-true thermal bath/sauna ambush, would have to pad his time and wait for more than 10 minutes just for the target to consider moving from his place. Hitman levels aren't, generally, as sprawling as Thief levels; 10 minutes for a level is a very generous time for a single clear, even if you go into a mission blind. There was also Deadly Cargo, a level which is broken up into a few timeline segments, and you can even speed up triggering them if you know how to, though it's not particularly obvious - the target meets up with a man who trades him a nuke (if you kill the man, the timeline skips ahead), then the SWAT team who caught whiff of the trade assaults the ship (if you assume a SWAT member disguise, you speed up the timeline), the target threatens to detonate the nuke (if he dies while the bomb is armed, he detonates the bomb in his death throes), a helicopter shows up for his extraction (you can take it instead, and you can even usurp him and walk plain in the face of the SWAT members with your detonator).

Maybe if you could start off at an airport and have a bit of a timeline where you have an early window of opportunity to kill the target before he boards a flight, an opportunity to join him in-flight, timing your kill to be unseen before you leave the flight at the next stop, or maybe straight up dumping the body off of a plane.

About the only unfortunate implication I could see is players choosing to mine a plane and then blow it up, kiling everyone onboard - sounds a little sensitive. Given how ICA tends to run cleanup crews, Diana would probably be fairly scornful in the post-mortem commentary. Also, 47 is, generally, not a terrorist; I think I even saw a statement a while ago that said so. So, in order to prevent that from being an avenue (which, frankly, isn't particularly interesting, either), you could have this be some sort of an Air Force One movie situation; the ICA catches whiff of some renegade operation by a rival organization (Lord knows we've had like three of those in the lore already) and installs their agent to snuff out the candle because important people are on the plane. You maneuver the plane, either installed in as a terrorist or, alternately, in a "hostage" or "pilot" outfit (47 *can* pilot a plane) and quietly remove everyone while rescuing not-Harrison Ford. And if you get found out, important hostages will be put in danger, kinda like A Murder of Crows.

(I wrote a wall of text being skeptical of this one particular idea, and then it got me thinking. Fun exercise.)

One thing that could be done to fix waiting for the target to get into position is adding the ability to speed up time somehow. One could just straight up assign buttons to speeding up time (ARMA does this in single player) This could also be done immersively by tying it to recognizable (for the audience) stakeout techniques: sit in a car and watch the target, pretend to read a newspaper and watch the target ect. Game would need to be smart about triggers to avoid going too fast and missing stuff. Returning to normal time when the target enters your vision and when they leave it would be good starts.

I'd like hitman type of stealth be adapted in new ip, but keep hitman grounded and semi realistic like it always has.

I mean most stealth games involve you to lurk in shadows instead of socially invinsible like hitman. Surprise none actuallyy copied the formula.

There are few example like dishonored with lady boyle's mansion but thats all. Ican think of
If we really go back enough, we have the Undercover level in Thief, where they had public and restricted zones. I was just discussing Thief btw, and how impressive its ambient and character sounds were. To this day I remember graphical details of the missions which really were never there. It's just my hearing drawing a picture. In moments like these, I wish I could find those people and give them another award.

Back to Hitman though, the same effect had Silent Assassin's soundtrack, the one recorded with the Budapest Radio Orchestra. I would walk home from school in snowy winter evenings, and "Trouble in Russia" would just start in my head. Seriously, Hitman is losing a lot from lacking an orchestral soundtrack and native speech. Even if the developers don't get it, it is losing a lot of atmosphere, which I guess is a lot more costly to reproduce through visual details like it has been, with success, in Sapienza. Take Marrakesh - ambient music could have done much, which the crowded bazaar isn't enough to achieve, in terms of atmosphere.

Penultimate elusive target is still roaming Hokkaido.

Man I can only HOPE that they will release all that content down the line, I missed like half of the ETs.

Got this during the sale, which UI options are safe to disable? Not having much trouble with most of them off in story mode, as the assassination objectives are easy to distinguish, but tried one of the escalations and I couldn't which of the guards was I supposed to kill.

Use the map, it will show you your target location even when everything is turned off.

HITMAN – July Content Schedule

Welcome to July 2017 and our 16th consecutive month of delivering new content and challenges into HITMAN. This month is a bit special because it brings the final Elusive Target for Season One. On top of that, we have a new Escalation Contract in Sapienza, a fresh (and super-sized) batch of Featured Contracts and the July game update.

The first content to arrive on 7th July is this month’s Escalation Contract; The Hamartia Compulsion.

– This Escalation Contract is the 12th that we have released for Sapienza and challenges you with 5 different stages. Expect three different targets, a sticky pistol complication and a few other surprises.

Once you have completed all 5 stages, earned the corresponding challenge and Mastery XP, we’ve lined up a bumper selection of Featured Contracts for July.

Contracts Mode allows you to create your own contracts and share them with friends, adding to the already insane replay-ability offered across all locations. Every month, we pick out the best of the Contracts that have been submitted, shared with us or that we’ve seen discussed among our players.

15 new Featured Contracts will be added to the game on 7th July and this week’s featured contract creators are… Quinez, Spodeq, AGENT4T7, BernardoOne, Euler 13, Gule, Pagan, GKPunk, Urben, Ed ll3, Niobium, immadummee, Silverballer, SnakeGun and Mendietinha.

Our July content will be released over a few different dates. The final Elusive Target for Season One will arrive later in the month and will be on the Marrakesh Bonus mission; A House Built on Sand. As the contract is in Marrakesh, you’ll unlock the Summer Suit with Gloves if this is the first ET you complete in Marrakesh. Equally, if you earn your first SA rating for this ET, you’ll unlock the Terminus Suit. Check the challenges in-game to see what suits you can still unlock through Elusive Targets, all depending on how many of the previous Elusive Targets you’ve completed.

We are also planning a game update for this month. We’ll have details to share and full release notes closer to when we’re releasing it.

See you for some new challenges in the August Content Schedule.

HITMAN – August Content Schedule

More HITMAN content is on the horizon in August and for the first-time, we’re introducing player-curated Featured Contracts into the live content schedule.

As the first month in quite some time without an Elusive Target (the last ET-less month was April ’16 for anyone who’s counting!), there is a different feel to the content that we’re revealing this month – but there’s still plenty of it!

The first content will land on August 11th: 10 new Featured Contracts. Every month, we pick out the best of the Contracts that have been submitted, shared with us or that we’ve seen discussed among our players. We choose the contracts as a batch to make sure we include a variety of locations, varying numbers of targets, inventive storytelling and anything else that we think is interesting.

Also on August 11th, we’ll release a new Challenge Pack. This will be the sixth one released so far and is called ‘The Art of Revenge’. Five new challenges will be added to the game and, as with all previous Challenge Packs, the location mastery you can earn by completing those challenges is higher than the regular challenges. That makes them a great way to earn any remaining mastery unlocks you need. The five challenges will be added to Hokkaido and you’ll need to complete all of the challenges to unlock the unique item, which we will reveal next week. After all, revenge is never a straight line…

Later in August, we’ll also publish our first-ever player-curated Featured Contracts. These contracts will function in the same way to the Featured Contracts that you’ve come to know and love in the game, with one big twist: one of our players will curate the list. These player-curated contracts will offer a fresh twist to the style of contracts that will be featured in the game and give all players a chance to get an insight into how some of the prominent members of the Hitman community play the game.

The very first curator to be in the spotlight is Mendietinha. He’s a Brazilian streamer who lives for discovering new routes in contracts and the ultimate rekky. If you don’t already watch his almost-daily Twitch streams, you’ll get to know him better later in the month when his curated contracts go live in the game and we publish a blog post right here with some insights into his choices.

Finally, there is no game update in the pipeline for this month but we are working towards future game updates.
Looking ahead, the September Content Schedule will be similar to this one, with a focus on Contracts Mode and a new Challenge Pack. That relative calm will give us time to prepare for some exciting announcements.

/ Travis

It's quite misleading/confusing.

By "players", it might include free players. And even among the actual purchasers a lot of them likely own only one or two episodes.

Judging by the numbers,i would say that they take owners of every episode separately and then they add them all up.
