Threads like these always bring up the mental images of hobos and student revolutionaries discussing the impending revolution in their Occupy camp when the riot police was about to move in.

So the mods are the hobos and the rest of us are student revolutionaries? I guess DU is an enterprising shopowner charging people to take a dump.

I have to say that it's funny how a non-issue that nobody gives a fuck about gets to such a buttsore.

Oh wow, so Obsidian made changes to one of the backer texts because someone found it offensive! Interesting, but hardly unexpected. What's more surprising is that it made it into the game to begin with, but that's just my opinion. Do you see a thread on this surviving very long? Do you see a lot of people being interested? I sure as fuck don't. At the same time, I don't see why it shouldn't be in a thread on PoE. Sure, it's not really a topic worthy of debate, but it's just about as valid as the thread with "fanfic" posts. I mean, that Never Again thread should probably go to Library by all accounts, if we apply the same heavy hand to every offtopic-ish item.

Just let it be, it'll die off on its own, precisely because of the zero value that it provides.
Far be it for me to question our glorious thought-leaders on what is worth (we are allowed) debating or how many people might be "interested" in it, but if it was such a non-issue it shouldn't have been a problem letting it live in the first place, either in the Patch thread where people were discussing the Patch changes and Retardoing it all started or in a separate thread dedicated to said issue.

As someone said, on the Obsidian forums there were several dozen page threads dedicated to this:
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73243-memorials-problem/
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/74461-controversial-limerick-discussion/
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/75387-controversial-limerick-discussion-2/
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/75219-limerick-edit-thread/
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/75328-limerick-edit-thread-2/
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/75505-twitter-outrage-over-the-spoiler-quest/

It also blew up into several hundred comments threads on the respective Leddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/projecteter...ks_like_obsidian_decided_to_remove_firedorns/
http://www.reddit.com/r/projecteter...dian_didnt_change_firedorns_poem_they_werent/

And was at one point dominating all front page discussions on the Steam forums to the point that people were making singular threads where they can "talk about the game itself"
zH2zzk.png

It also made it into a separate 18 page thread regarding the Patch itself, where the CEO of said company personally offered an "explanation": http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/75269-update-93-patch-103-important-community-fixes/
Backer Content

It's come to our attention that a piece of backer-created content has made it into Pillars of Eternity that was not vetted. Once it was brought to our attention, it followed the same vetting process as all of our other content. Prior to release, we worked with many of our backers to iterate on content they asked to be put into the game that didn't strike the right tone.

In the case of this specific content, we checked with the backer who wrote it and asked them about changing it. We respect our backers greatly, and felt it was our duty to include them in the process. They gave us new content which we have used to replace what is in the game. To be clear, we followed the process we would have followed had this content been vetted prior to the release of the product.

We appreciate the faith you have all given us into making Pillars of Eternity the great game that it has become, and we appreciate the strength of conviction all of you bring to every conversation we have together.

Sincerely,

Feargus Urquhart, CEO
Obsidian Entertainment, Inc.

It also made it to news posts on several highly reputable news sites like The Mary Sue or PCGamer (which refers to the Mary Sue):

Reaxxion - Obsidian Caves To SJW Demands By Removing “Transphobic” Joke From Pillars Of Eternity: https://archive.today/XKsB3
http://techraptor.net/content/pillars-eternity-obsidians-lack-courage

Leading up to an "explaining of joke" from said Backer himself: http://www.orderoflaibach.com/blog/screw-you-firedorn-lightbringer

Obviously this seems to have been somewhat of an issue for many people, especially those that don't like enforced censorship or developers caving in to this kind of pressure and demands, to put it mildly.

Surely, at some point it can be decided something like this is "newsworthy" or "worth talking about" in the respective section, all of your personal opinions and misgivings left aside?

...and I'm back from my Passover vacation. It seems that, much like certain Eastern European and Middle Eastern countries, the Codex immediately went to shit when the Jew went away.

Over the past day, I've attempted to lobby for the creation of a dedicated thread for the Obsidian limerick SJW debacle in the PoE subforum. Unfortunately, I've been unable to secure a commitment from the administration to forbid Jaesun from re-merging it.

For now, you'll have to make due with this: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...tbringer-obsidian-caves-in-to-the-sjws.98296/

Does Jaesun find the topic "problematic" or is he just trying to please Obsidian so they wouldn't be mocked, or is there some other reason he's being such a cunt?

Discussion of this Pillars of Eternity the CRPG topic is currently not allowed in the Pillars of Eternity the CRPG subforum that is part of the GRPG subforum. Feel free to discuss it in the dump thread in General Gaming. Have a nice day and be excellent to each other. :)

Re: Jaesun's motivations

He claims to be allergic to anything that's not about "CRPG design and mechanics", but increasingly, I can't rule out the possibility that he's being insincere.

P.S. Grunker I think you may have failed to notice another thread. :M

Whatever his motivations are, this kind of very heavy handed moderation belongs into utter shitholes like neofag or rpgwatch, not in RPGCodex.

Now the jew made it a lone sticky towering over every other thread in said Subforum.

My keen observational skills and the kind of content generally being removed makes me think a hatred for "SJW shit" or "GD drama" in any of the gaming partitions is the motivation and it is a kind of benevolent removal to "purge" and try to keep said forums "clean" from the influence of said content from either side (if you've seen the front pages of NeoFAG or The Escapist during their SJW high-times you may understand), which if true and not due to alternate motives I can't dismiss as an entirely unreasonable or bad prospect in general, there are parts of said discussions that turn into absolute shitholes of unrelated political debate and have absolutely nothing to do with either gaming or the more general topics at hand, but it comes across as overzealous and misplaced at times when it relates to a specific game and grows out of proportion into a bigger shitstorm over a specific game like this time.

LundB: I always thought of it as a place where the primary selling point was lack of heavy-handed moderation controlling the flow and nature of discussion about games
LundB: the fact that you can say nigger cunt whatever is just a side effect of that, but not the primary motivation
LundB: but now it's turning into a place with heavyhanded moderation, just you're allowed to say nigger cunt
LundB: which is hurr
LundB: preserving the derp side effects of a good policy while throwing the policy in the trash
LundB: makes very little sense to me

^ LundB speaks the truth

[edit]

LundB: ULMINATI HOW DARE U POST PRIVATE STEAM FORUM POSTS IN THE PUBLIC EYE
LundB: THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD
LundB: YOU ARE AS EVIL AS DARTH ROXOR FOR POSTING UBER-SECRET PRIVATE ADMIN STUFF
Ulminati: BURN THE ESTABLISHMENT!
Ulminati: LET ANARCHY REIGN!
Ulminati: NIGGER CUNT!

That's okay, we already have a general idea of what goes on in there anyway.

Hmph, that's the third version Hiver made, by that point all sorts of plebs got in.

This was the prestigious original, a true elite brotherhood of people who caused unparalleled butthurt for Hiver (well beyond his ordinary butthurt level):

And this is the less prestigious version 2:
q4oXJ.jpg

Since I'm posting I guess I might as well say what I think of all this to be on topic:

It would have been nice if the 2014 List of Incline thread had been left as is, and simply replaced with a new 2015 thread, or at least not edited so that information was lost.

The POE epitaph controversy could have had its own (non-stickied) thread in the POE subforum, with all posts not related to POE retardoed or moved into the correct non-POE forum threads, and it would probably have died already. After all, there's a limit to how much one can say about a single epitaph backer-reward being changed. Everyone would get bored of it and move back to the other SJW threads, and the POE forum would remain unsullied by boring SJW talk except for one single thread among hundreds. Instead, we now have a 7 page Site Feedback thread and SJW crap is spilling over everywhere.

Edit: The stuff quoted by Ulminati was referring to the creation of megathreads in general, not the SJW shit in particular.

moderation should be report-driven.
don't touch unless reported, and only consider it if reported.
now that's a great policy.

edit: I must admit I'm drunk and I thought this was about some idiot getting banned or whatever.

a moderator controls his or her space (subforum(s)).
if you're not happy about it, whine and complain.
Dark Underlord has replaced moderators before.

Isn't that what we're doing right now Zed? Whining and complaning to DU? The poll says more than half the voters want moderators replaced.

Yeah, the whole "you're not allowed to talk about PoE drama in PoE subforum" smells like faggotry to me. Bad move, motherfucker.
