That's absolutely normal. Once the Moon has captured you, you need to slow down a little bit to get into orbit. Only sometimes you need to accelerate, i.e. if your trajectory already points into the Moon.

I love your video, and your spaceship design is brilliant.
But why not a real attempt of a landing?

My RCS thrusters got damaged inflight somehow. Plus had a lot of sideways velocity in relation to the moon, which whenever I tried to correct I would start to go back into orbit. So "ramming speed ahead!" was the final solution.

What do you need RCS thrusters for anyway? They are only useful for tiny adjustments in space, like orbit corrections, and you can do without them.
In order to kill all sideway velocity during the descent, there are some important indicators on your 8-ball (the 2 yellow flight direction vectors mostly),
and there's a vertical speed indicator on the top.
It really pays off to understand these indicators, because with them you can land without any visual information from your spacecraft.
You should practice landings from the launchpad first, until you can keep your lander in perfect control.
I consider an advanced SAS module absolutely necessary in a lander, also make sure that you don't use a descent engine that's too powerful in relation to the weight of your lander, that's a common problem in the feeble gravity of the Moon.

Syril -- There are 3(!) seperate and quite active Let's Plays of KSP in the playground by Me, Hellraiser and Burning Bridges respectively. It's more addictive than cocaine. You can also look up Scott Manley on youtube. He does a lot of KSP let's play videos.
