This is my first Let's Play.

Truth be told, I neither have the time nor the inclination to type the dialogues of the game and then come up with some funny larping stuff so I just took the lazy way, installed OBS and got everything on video.

Negatives:
- not as funny or entertaining as a traditional LP
- videos contain just the game, no audio commentary by me

Positives:
- all fights on hardmode are covered so if you think the game is teh hard you might learn how to do it and/or how to build an efficient party
- this project is basically half LP, half guide and half review, yes that means I will give tips and also inflict
my valuable opinion about aspects of the game on you
- I think there was a Blackguards LP here on the Codex already but it was abandoned, this one won't (I already have the entire game recorded so it's just a matter of me uploading all that stuff)

There was a guide on steam done by our felipepepe.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=192905991

Fairly at the top of that guide is the following listing:

Attack Value (AV) = (Courage + Agility + Strength)/5
Parry Value (PV) = (Intuition + Agility + Strength)/5
Dodge Value (DV) = (Inutition + Agility + Strength)/5
Ranged Combat Value (RC) = (Intuition + Dexterity + Strength)/5

Attack (for melee dudes), Dodge and Parry (for everybody) and Ranged Attack (for archers) are kind of a big deal.
The one stat that's used EVERYWHERE is Strength. Something to keep in mind when building a good character.

Given the party members you'll get, playing an archer is a reasonable decision. I pondered whether to make a custom archer, start out with 14 in dexterity/strength and intuition, unlock Hawkeye and Acceleratus (Move as Lightning) right there at char creation and call it a day.
But that would be too easy, right?

So instead I went with the default mage and then used her as an archer.
Starting with intuition 13 (pretty good) , dexterity 11 (pretty bad) and strength 10 (shit) is of course far from optimal and even worse is the fact that you can't learn Acceleratus and Hawkeye before chapter 3 but the approach is not entirely without merit.

The one advantage you'll have is that you start out with Steady Casting despite not actually meeting the prerequisites and therefore fizzling a spell will be a very rare occurrence.

Without further ado,

Part 1

Immensely complicated character creation and the beginning of the game. Fasten your seat belts, men, and get ready for the
adventures of Murderhoborella and her party of misfits.

Chapter 1

part 6
entering Wobran
Drol's most beautiful rose
https://youtu.be/XNauNYOweEA

part 7
The Battlefield of Wobran
https://youtu.be/p3-xNzl_dq4
We'll be trying to get dodge 1 on everybody plus we backtrack to neetha to buy the neethan axe, a two-handed bashing weapon that deals infantry damage.

Part 8
The mascaron staff
https://youtu.be/yKYGs5bVGYc
This staff has astral regen, so we don't turn the quest in until Zurb gets his own staff back.

Part 9
Chapter 1
continuing Drol's most beautiful rose in Drolsash
https://youtu.be/U7ffjtUTI7Q

Part 10
Chapter 1
Dragon Hunt
https://youtu.be/fP5ihSnV2E0
to rescue Naurim's axe

Part 11
These aren't the druids that you're looking for.
https://youtu.be/utkOHzc0N7g

Part 12
find the baroness
https://youtu.be/aMLCN488qNI

Part 13
Rescue the baroness
https://youtu.be/IbeJ-pgmX5g
See me fail. To be honest, I'm not sure if this crossbow dude is doing enough damage.

Part 14
Rescue the baroness
https://youtu.be/YH7gOZlpA54
Success (5th attempt). All it took was a mindblowing amount of consecutive, successful dodges and then still to stand long enough to put down that OP xbow dude.
Murderhoborella ftw
I also got Naurim to wield shield & axe and increased his parry slider to the max so he can tank as good as possible.

Part 15
Further South
https://youtu.be/6m8vOgwRv5o
Also picking up the Pilgrim's Paths sidequest.

Part 16
Denndrim forest
https://youtu.be/Ecu4HfJxFcc
picking up Niam

Part 17
with Niam in the party we're going to tackle the Dwarf Games
https://youtu.be/PrVG-2TRJps

Part 18
Dwarf Games
https://youtu.be/Gpt4kIymwPo
Nobody's forcing you to open all 4 chests by the way. Yes I rage-quit at the end. (it was 1 AM tho)

Part 19
finishing Dwarf Games
https://youtu.be/c_v6EW239oo
Next morning everything went smoothly. Observe how well the sinewcutter arrows (equiped on Niam) worked with the dwarves. One shot, one wound. Nice.
Despite having to spend 27 ducats on healing supplies earlier (every opened chest gives +13 duckets so you might as well open only 2 chests to get the same money in the end)
to bring the party somewhat in shape before the end-fight I emerged with 116 ducats, not too shabby at this point.

Part 20
Brotherly Love
https://youtu.be/g-ci54HMrHI
The promised corpofrigo book made the realize that the merchant is probably innocent(ish).

Part 21
give the beggar a silver coin so you can start the Frenkel quest later, pay a visit to the torturer Muratori
https://youtu.be/adNsFjH5aPA

Part 22
Muratori encounter
https://youtu.be/zCJMiEb_s0E

Part 23
Crossing the border towards Mobran
https://youtu.be/g0iOISwvvjY
Zurbaran and Murderhoborella have balm of healing 13 now and can heal wounds. It'll help.

Part 24
Entering Mobran and defending the city
https://youtu.be/q4LxUNKnTZs

Part 25
Defeating the crystal lizard priests
https://youtu.be/wz79g82qGU0

Part 26
Defeating the crystal lizard priest in the sewers
https://youtu.be/x63weAJCsKE
Failure

Part 27
Defeating the crystal lizard priest in the sewers
https://youtu.be/YN5FqHrzQbY
Success!
Pondering my options I reloaded, got Move as Lightning 13 on Niam and poisoned all weapons.

Part 28
Leaving Morbal, Transition to Chapter 2
https://youtu.be/C261Dgt8HAw
This was the last encounter with Bailiff Vasca for quite some time. Note how Zurb won his 1v1, so proud.

Chapter 2

Part 29
Getting caught as slaves and becoming gladiators
https://youtu.be/-AiLYqkVfmI
And so chapter 2 begins, a short chapter mostly consisting of defeating the Nine Hordes.

Part 30
Proving ourselves as gladiators
https://youtu.be/dTCFLhnfOF4
This is probably the first big hurdle for most people. You have to split the party and defeat 2 encounters with the second one being quite tricky.
The merchant only sells metal armor, so only Naurim will be properly equiped and everybody else will just have weapons. There are no potions or poisons for you.
Niam's Acceleratus Move as Lightning 13 is definitely best used in the second fight.

Part 31
Defeating Jesabella
https://youtu.be/6loDy4ZDdwY
The first fight wasn't that hard, and this one isn't either if you have MaL 13 and follow the correct strategy.
The trick is to ignore the mage (he's a pushover) and to bring Jesabella to ~40-50% health in one round (not triggering her using a healing pot) and then go all out and kill her in the next round before she ever gets a chance to use a healing potion.
The plan was sound and worked right away at first try. I did increase Niam's mana pool to 30 for 2 castings of MaL 13 for this, the only AP I spent for these fights.
Probs for Zurb's valiant self sac at the end to buy Niam more time to put that mage down.
This also starts the Jesabella's legacy side quest.

Part 32
Meeting Takate
https://youtu.be/PomgI_-xnjk
a couple of wolves and Takates group later we'll be off to the arena in Mengbilla

Part 33
The Nine Hordes Day 1, fight 1
https://youtu.be/eVZb4SMTfnE

Part 34
The Nine Hordes Day 1, fight 2 & 3
https://youtu.be/4vddUeJp45I
I took a piss and forgot to turn on recording again, so you'll miss the first couple of rounds, but nothing important happened there anyway except Niam buffing with MaL 13 and Hawkeye.

Part 35
The Nine Hordes Day 2, Tigers
https://youtu.be/b9IbRyqwiEM
Fucking wounding attacks.

Part 36
The Nine Hordes Day 2, fight 2 & 3
https://youtu.be/U42b8ogNlvw
This was easy.

After day 2 you can talk to the animal tamer and poison the louse queen. You'll have to duel the old gladiator to get the poison, I forgot to record that (had Naurim do it).
I have no idea what it actually does anyway.

Part 37
The Nine Hordes Day 3, The death wheels
https://youtu.be/Y7kYd4v2Kc8
In my opinion the most difficult fight of the Nine Hordes and worse: Niam - the source of MaL 13 - is drugged up and useless.

Part 38
The Nine Hordes Day 3, The death wheels
Success! (4th try)
https://youtu.be/G1tnxdCZhN8
Use the healing macguffins to somewhat get in shape before triggering the next fight, they also cure poison.

Part 39
The Nine Hordes Day 3, Kaimans
https://youtu.be/UEAbk7uwU4o
Can be pretty shit if you have bad initiative. Healing Aurelia doesn't help, she dies when they eat the 4th meat, so the best course of action is to ignore one side completely and 100% defend the other side.

Part 40
The Nine Hordes Day 3, The louse queen
https://youtu.be/-Zn1msNhplc
Poor Niam, don't do drugs kids, it's gonna get you killed.

Part 41
Transition to Chapter 3
https://youtu.be/_miCYvEgUvU

... and so this fairly short chapter ends.

Game is a pushover, if you dont gimp yourself. I had like half xp points unspent, when I finished it.
Gimped, some fights were hard, like the tribals. But if you have 2 wizards with certain spells, u just steamroll.

Remember that one. I had to spend xp on the second mage, my pc was mage too, I think I had to either up Def a bit cause he had to melee later, or give him fireball.

The other iteresting fights for me were:

The tree, before I caved and spent xp on my mages to buy the needed spell

The tentacles, needed xp investment in Defense.

The tribals, dont remember why, imo they were just beefy.

A fight at the end with timer or something following you. Had to increase Att.

Full screen spell mages had to be dealt with initiative but arent hard.

Chapter 3

Part 42
advancing the mainquest a bit in Mengbilla, before starting to do sidequests to unlock trainers and/or get better equipment

Part 43
Zurbaran's Kind Heart
Usually the strategy would be to have Takate and Naurim on those two dry hexes and attack with spears (it's the reason why Naurim has 8 in spears).
It's possible to do that fight without any tentacle showing up whatsoever but for this to work you need way higher initiative so that when the charming spell wears off the character in question gets initiative first and has time to move out of the water before tentacles appear.
I otoh did this quest right away at the beginning of chapter 3 so my initiative just isn't good enough. I did so to pick up the best bow and the best two handed bashing weapon (Pailos).

Part 44
Crossed Blades
Unlock Daria as a trainer.

Part 45
Beggar Girl
Learned a few useful spells from Immaculo.

Part 46
Jesebella's Legacy started in Istinia
it's about rescuing Jesebella's helmet.

Part 47
In Cuoris freeing the dervish slave because I have too much money, then in Benivilla doing Telemache's Latest Creation

Part 48
Color of Kings

Part 49
Poison and Slugs
Advance the main quest a bit, OBS brought an unknown error during recording so the fights vs 2 slugs in the beginning then 2 fights against the pirates were lost and my last save was too long ago for me to bother going back. I'm sorry.
While you can choose which side to pick I just killed everybody because of those precious AP ripe for the picking.

Part 50
Vengeance for Niam!
RIP in peace, Niam, you were a great archer

Part 51
Corpse Stealers pt.1

Part 52
Corpse Stealers pt.2
This is what learning by doing looks like.

Part 53
The Alchemist

Part 54
That Sinister Druid
I guess you can do that later when your party is more powerful, but I wanted to retrieve the obsidian dagger... so, it's basically an exciting reload bonanza until the one useless character (for this particular fight) gets charmed.

Part 55
Among Flying Foxes, Beautiful Oralia

Part 56
Among Flying Foxes, Fearless Ralman & Masterful Manolo

Part 57
Mengbilla arena fight 1
If you want maximum gold they mustn't eat all the flesh from any plate, so just close all the gates asap to funnel them thru the eastern gate, then let the killing commence

Part 58 and Part 59
Foxes are flighing again

Part 60
The Gossip
With the main quest being advance to the point of transitioning to chapter 4, I'll wrap up the sidequests.
Jeez I'm grateful Ciliego didn't start to drink healing potions at the end. He's the trainer for dodge 3 btw. This is the one fight in the game where disarming traps would be useful, but who would want to spend ludicrous amounts of XP because of a single fight?

Part 61
The Old Box
The mother of all fetch quests, actually can't finish it because I ran into the Rescue the Beauty! quest and Keidre is poisoned for the time being

Part 62
Rescue the Beauty! and The Old Box

Part 63
working on Ciliego's Innocence, not the least because he kinda teaches Dodge 3 and I happen to like Dodge 3

Part 64
Ciliego's Innocence pt2, continuing in Ohzara and into the lizard crypts underneath the carpenter's shop in Mengbilla

Part 65
Slave Hunt
It's important to kill the shaman asap and debuff/buff to the max because the wounding attacks are extremely annoying

Part 66
The new Maiden

Part 67
Counting Crows part 1, making Ossip sing

Part 68
Counting Crows part 2, Leomar
Leomar, one of the crows' wings, must be made to talk as well

Part 69
Counting Crows part 3
finding out more about the head of the crows in the Raja temple in El Halem, getting the poisonous dagger Basilisk's tongue as a reward

Part 70
The Head of the Crows
How likely is it that the crow's head will be able to stand up to the combined might of Murderhoborella and her trusty pet mage nicknamed Mr. Standfast Catlike 4, but acknoledged by his friends only as the Zurbinator:
Zurbaran himself?
Not very.

Part 71
The Head of the Crows pt2
As you could see, the damage and the poison by those assassins is completely insane. Thank God you can rest up before the encounter with the boss crow.
I'm gonna use poison as well to even the odds somehow.

Part 72
Charyb'yzz
Assemble the Khor Spear, start Charyb'yzz and break into the alchemist's guild

Part 73
Charyb'yzz pt2
finishing Charyb'yzz, you have to kill 13 tentacles, it went well even if it did look ugly at times

Part 74
finishing the Pilgrim's Paths and start Telemache's Masterwork in one fell swoop

Part 75
Telemache's Masterwork pt2
feminism is a fatal disease

Part 76
Mengbilla Arena fight 2, giant gorillas
trying to do the actual mechanics here will probably get you killed
Kuslik Lamellar armor retrieved, I call that a success, it's what Naurim always wanted but never dared to ask

Part 77
Mengbilla Arena fight 3
kaimans and goblin archers and traps, men, traps

Part 78
Mengbilla Arena fight 4, ezmode morfus

Part 79
Mengbilla Arena fight 5, crypt lice
the easiest fight of all arena fights

Part 80
with chapter 3 coming to a close here I just show all characters so you can see where I've put my points so far
(mainly stats and a few key spells + weapon profs)

Part 81
Areimanios
defeat 27 zombies duh (equip weapons that don't do piercing damage)

Part 82
Fox hunting
fyi you only get 20 duckets for killing the foxes not 200 per head, by helping them you get a bunch of valuable potions

Part 83
I need water!

Part 84 and Part 85
catacombs beneath Areimanios

Part 86
the finale of chapter 3 vs. Lysander

Chapter 4

pt. 87
Assembling the party again.

pt. 88
Take care that you don't travel thru the ritual grounds between Winneb and Duyar unless you want to do that fight.
A lot of the fights available in chapter 4 are quite hard and thus I want to remove Aurelia's mask asap, for that we need to travel to Neetha and we have to defeat Lasca, quite hard, just use all your resources, poisons etc

pt. 89
So, with Aurelia being able to properly contribute again, we turn right back and search the area for sidequests
In Drolsash we pick up the quest Dragon Hunt 2 (this time for real)

pt. 90
The Prophet of Winneb /Morbal
Look, the dear Usim, such a good boy, he dindu nuffin

pt. 91
The Prophet of Festina

pt. 92
The Prophet of El Halem
Yes, that's why they're called the purple mobs of doom

pt. 93
The Prophetess of Ohzara

pt. 94
Prophet in Theniran: I have a message to spread!
The Zurbinator gets the Mageblade, a sword with +2 astral regen and +30% magic dmg resist and fire resist, he dual wielding it with the obsidian dagger
giving him a total regen of +8 per round

pt. 95
Myrtale

pt. 96
Ritual place, Dark Rituals quest
Easy with Karnifilio, a complete nightmare without.

pt. 97
Over the cliff

pt. 98
Wobran's Battlefield
cold shock + lightning find you + standfast catlike works well if you can get it off

pt. 99
with all available sidequests and combat encounters out of the way we finally enter Neetha

pt. 100
Cursed Swine!
nice onehanded bashing weapon for Naurim

Insurrection of the Lambs: meeting Prophetess Salva, Niam's sister
pt. 101 , pt. 102 , pt. 103 , pt. 104

pt. 105
Urias' country estate following The Moonstone quest
doing the 3 fights to gain entrance

pt. 106
dog kennel

pt. 107
amphitheatre

pt. 108
Luciano encounter and getting the moonstone

Fighting inside the tomb together with Urias
pt. 109 and pt. 110

Takate's Revenge
pt. 111 and pt. 112

pt. 113
having the name we'll have to meet up with a moha shaman to learn the location of the Eternal Valley
Quest: The Shaman
first fight is vs giant apes who hit like a truck

pt. 114
Utulu warriors, traps and poison

pt. 115
Moha village
One does not simply walk into the Eternal City. The shaman completed.

pt. 116
Garden of the Ancestors

pt. 117
Before going on, let's take a look at the characters again, so you can see how the party is built.

pt. 118
Into The Eternal City thru the bleak lake.
Can't come back so equip and finish everything, rapidly nearing the endgame.
Caves of Mok Pan Tohal

More caves, harvesting AP I guess: pt. 119, pt. 120, pt. 121

Even more caves pt. 122
The trick is to not get caught in the poison fog, duh!

And more Mok Pan Tohal caves pt. 123 and pt. 124

pt. 125
starting the Final Tests, losing Aurelia

pt. 126
WTF?
WTF??

pt. 127
One thing is clear, those lizard mages need to die real quick

pt. 128
fights 4-6 aren't that hard

pt. 129
fight 7-9 also easy

pt. 130
last batch of challenges
the one with the crystals can be tricky

pt. 131
the 13th challenge
the enemy casts karnifilio right away (as AoE of course) and you're fucked if it hits Naurim or Takate but win effortlessly if it hits someone useless like Zurb.

pt. 132
Aurelia in the party again
In the Temple of the Nameless fighting Urias

And so the adventures of Murderhoborella end.

An enjoyable game. Other than some weird itemization problems like how there's only 2 gambeson gloves in the game which means if you have 3 mages one of them won't have anything to equip in the glove slot or how the best items with mana regen are items a mage really wouldn't want to equip but has to to get the regen the single worst thing about their TDE rule set adaption is that 4 tier bullshit for spells and abilities. With few exceptions most spells don't really cut it unless cast at lvl3 or 4 and that means they cost large amounts of XP and that turns everyone into a one trick pony.
Sure the characters are effective but you're doing the same shit all the time, one guy spams hammerblow, the next guy spams deathblow, Hoborella spams triple shot and Zurb goes Standfast Catlike 4, Lightning find you 4, Cold shock 4 and then stands there waiting for his mana to recharge. Every single fight. In that sense the game adaption is worse than in the Drakensang games.
