The amount of filler combat you see in this LP is just 1% of the filler combat the game really has... I'm not kidding- Cool as it may be, the game is 95% filler combat. 5% story. :|

For every combat you see in an area in this LP, there are at least 10 more not shown...

Oops I missed the last update.

Too bad about filler combat, though. Looks like I'm better off following this LP than actually playing the game. :P

To show what this game degenerates into later on, this is the entire dungeon of Mesa Canyon.

Not too bad. Probably around 10 to 15 fights total. Filler combat of course.

    Now look at this...
Three interlinked sectors of the same dungeon. Imagine you have to fight through all this to get a quest item, then fight your way back to find a NPC. Repeat, repeat, repeat. That's Septerra Core in a nutshell.

Anachronox would probably be more fun to LP. Although most of its combat is also filler it's story and characters have enough lulz to keep it fresh. And it doesn't have as many trash mobs as this.

Probably. I'll finish this LP though. Just going to be filtering out most of the filler fights for the sake of better flow and showcase of the story. Minus the combat, the game is actually rather short.

Let's Play Septerra Core: Part 6 - Prison Break

Last time on SC, we were hurrying desperately to deliver the dreadful news to General Campbell. As Harold said, this is a JRPG, so of course we are unsuccessful. The ramifications? We're about to find out...
[IMG]: You have to stop the War!
[IMG]: It's too late, the Device has been deployed, nothing can stop it now!
    [IMG]: What have you done!?
[IMG]: Right now the Doomsday Device is burrowing inside of Jinam, to the very center of the continent. From there it will grow bio-mechanical tendrils throughout the entire landmass. The tendrils will generate a new gravitational field, sending the landmass to the upper shell layers! The tidal forces and earthquakes will kill the entire population, Ankara is victorious.
    [IMG]: Uh oh.

Our efforts are commendable, but unfortunately, it's already too late.
    The Doomsday rocket is fired.

It smashes into the heart of the Jinam shell.
    And the :mhd: is unleashed.

Its tentacles extend exponentially in seconds.
    Tearing the shell apart.

And rising the entire shell to the upper orbit.
The shell crashes into World Shell 3, effectively ending the war and obliterating all of its inhabitants.

    Campbell is pleased.
    [IMG]: Play the message Led.
    [IMG]: It's too late, Maya.
    [IMG]: Play it.

General Scott to the rescue, but his warning is one Doomsday rocket late.
[IMG]: By Marduk, what have I done?
[IMG]: Heads up, Maya, Doskias' fleet is near.

Apparently, the holo projector doesn't have any security system. Doskias bypasses the defense, or lack of in this case, and appears in the projected screen.
    [IMG]: Sir, we're being boarded.
    [IMG]: Where?
[IMG]: In the hold sir, they're taking the Doomsday Weapon!
    [IMG]: Doskias, you Bastard!
[IMG]: We've got to get out of here!
    [IMG]: Father?
    [IMG]: We have to go!

As everyone else leaves, Led remains behind for one final word with her father.
    [IMG]: Go...

And ran, she did. Selina took the rest of us to Shell 5, and the strange thing is, she took us to the brothel of all places. The developers dropped the ball again here for not giving you any option to "interact" with the prostitutes. Maya goes lesbian with the whores, sounds like :bounce: to me. But no so :decline: .
    [IMG]: She did her best!
[IMG]: My ship was badly wounded, but at least I got us all out of danger!
[IMG]: I won't work with her! She's the one responsible for the death of my family, of Layla's father!
[IMG]: Doskias is your enemy, not me. I want to repair the damage he's done...
[IMG]: I think she means it, Corgan...
[IMG]: Yeah, well, who put you in charge, anyway?

Do you remember Gunnar from the opening scene? Here he is, once again, with an agenda I might add.
[IMG]: Magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads! Swords for everyone!
    [IMG]: Who are you?
[IMG]: Lord Gunnar, of the Chosen.
[IMG]: Right hand of the Emperor Aspertine himself...
[IMG]: Ahh, Selina. The rumors are true, then... It seems Doskias is short one general, eh?
[IMG]: I serve the Junker, Gunnar, if she'll have me.
[IMG]: Ah yes, the Junker. I have been searching for you.
    [IMG]: Me?
[IMG]: Reports abound with your name... A Junker from Shell 2, struggling for peace...
[IMG]: But I thought the Chosen didn't care what happens to the rest of us.
[IMG]: Usually, yes. But now the Holy Chosen Emperor, who rules over all Chosen tribes, has sent me to stop the blasphemer Dokias, before he does even more damage.
[IMG]: Doskias will not be able to do any more damage. He can't unlock the Core without the Keys.
[IMG]: He has them... Stolen from my protection. This is why I have come personally.
    [IMG]: What Keys?
[IMG]: Ancient relics that hold the secret of communicating with the Core. After we found them, the Emperor chose to wait, holding them until the time of the next Conjunction. But Doskias was not willing to hold his ambitions.
[IMG]: He plans to use the mining operations of Ankara and Jinam to mine the Core. To use its crystalline materials to construct a series of giant lens ships. He'll use them to focus a beam of light to the Core, creating an artificial Conjunction.
[IMG]: With the Keys, he will try and speak with the Core, obtaining the Gift of the Creator, the Kingdom of Heaven... The Heretic must not be allowed to obtain such power!
[IMG]: And you want my help to stop him?
[IMG]: Yes, you must go to the lowest world shell, and stop the mining operations he has inherited from the nations he so recently destroyed. If you can delay him, my fleet can attack from the air, destroying his lens ships.
    [IMG]: We're in.
[IMG]: I must return to the upper layer and assemble my fleet.
[IMG]: I would watch Selina if I were you, Maya... She loves Doskias, and will not let you destroy him...
    [IMG]: That's not true...

    We received this fate card.
    It summons Bowman when used.

At this point, we can recruit Selina as a party member. I'm not going to do it because of what happens later on, on two occasions actually. Let's just say she has a tendency to betray. And I just absolutely despise her for one reason. I'll reveal what that is in the next update. Anyway, outside of the brothel, we see a huge bomb. Let's see if Grubb can lower it from the platform.
    CLICK!
[IMG]: These chains are not as strong as they appear.

    Just as expected.
Now we can proceed to utilize this wonderful tool.

To take care of this sucka.
[IMG]: Ha! I'm a bounty hunter!
[IMG]: You don't look like one.
    [IMG]: Show her the key.
[IMG]: See this, it's the key to the canals, our secret entrance! Now, are you the new girl?
    [IMG]: Say yes, Maya.
[IMG]: I beg your pardon, pig!
[IMG]: Mind yer manners, little girl, or I'll have to teach you a lesson! HA HA HA!
    [IMG]: Anytime!
[IMG]: That's it! We'll take care of this outside...
    [IMG]: Sigh, this again.

This is the Lochmaster. We use Corgan's Observe ability on him.
And his level is so high, it can't be displayed.

There's no way to defeat him fairly. So Maya shoots the explosives next to him.
    Overkill much?

    Decent reward.
And I missed the key he dropped.

But you can see it here.
    The Bounty Hunter Hideout Key.

With this key in our possession, we head to the Bounty Hunter District of the Shell 5 Bazaar.
    Click.

Insert the key to the canal lock.
And in we go. We're taking Led and Corgan.

We fight some crabs and leeches in the sewers. Note that in the past, we used to do 1 damage on crabs. Now we're doing a lot more.
Later on, the crabs will become very easy to kill.

Some stronger variants of bounty hunters.
The wolverine bounty hunter has the ability to cast Cloak. Cloak renders a character incredibly difficult to hit. The best strategy? Kill this idiot before he casts the damn spell.

    In a chest.
Wallet is completely useless. It protects against the steal money ability of bounty hunters. By this time, we're already swimming in a superabundance of gold, so no use for this rubbish.

More level ups from filler combat, yay.

    Pull the lever.
It opens up the prison gate.

    An old friend!
[IMG]: Name's Araym. Thanks for letting me out...
[IMG]: I got a date at the Brothel.

And now, we have to go all the way back to the whore house. As we return to the sewers, Duke orders his men to track us down.
[IMG]: You heard the Duke! Get 'em!

The sewer crabs and the spores and whatever, are replaced by these bounty hunters.
    Filler mobs regardless.

    Finally, back to the brothel.
[IMG]: Has Lacey got my stuff?
    [IMG]: She's upstairs.

Araym goes upstairs and gets his arms back.
    [IMG]: Wait, he's a friend!
[IMG]: A friend of yours, or ours?
    [IMG]: He's a Bounty Hunter.
[IMG]: I didn't kill anyone. The other bounty hunters even went after me because I didn't follow orders in Wind City.
    [IMG]: What's with your arms?
[IMG]: I lost them during the Jinam Resource wars with Ankara, following stupid orders and killing innocent people. My new arms are a weapon, and a bitter reminder of my past. They reminded me never to follow orders blindly. I do what I want, when I want, for whom I want. If I join you, you must remember that, or I will go my own way.
[IMG]: We could use any help we can get.
[IMG]: If it'll get me outta this city, I'm in!
[IMG]: Were trying to get off this shell.
[IMG]: I know a captain down by the ship ports. Just get me there.
[IMG]: Why should we trust either of them?
[IMG]: Who DO you trust? My conscience tells me to stop Doskias' plans, but my heart tells me to save him, perhaps from himself.
[IMG]: That may not be possible.
[IMG]: Enough! I don't have the time to waste on your arguments... If you won't help me, I'll stop Doskias myself! (She runs away.)
[IMG]: I told you she would betray us.

    Now we have Araym!
Blazing fast character. He is the fastest character in the game, yet still has decent damage and core power to be relevant for the entire time. A very good character overall.

With Araym in our party, he can convince the captain to take us to Shell 7.
    CLICK!
    [IMG]: Hey, how's it goin'?
[IMG]: Made some new friends, eh Araym?
[IMG]: Damn, you look high as fuck. Have you been partying with Cloaked Figure lately?
[IMG]: Aye, and they're lookin' for passage to Shell 7, think you can get us there?
[IMG]: Just tell me when yer ready...
[IMG]: Anytime you want, Maya, but remember that I have to go with, or the captain won't go.

    Our path is blocked however.
    [IMG]: Duke!
    [IMG]: Who's this loser?
[IMG]: My former boss, the leader of the Bounty Hunters.
[IMG]: I figure you still owe me for all the trouble you've caused me, Araym. Now pay up!

A boss fight or another filler fight?
    49 damage by Araym.

    And Maya drops him.
    2 more to go.

Corgan slices the other bounty hunter.
    1 to go.

    Pathetic attack by Duke.
This is the best he can do. The biggest problem with this game so far, is the lack of battles that differ from this generic formula. Let's hope that will change in the future.
    :yeah:

And we're off to Shell 7, the bottommost shell of Septerra.
    TO BE CONTINUED.

Next Time: We confront Doskias and end his tyranny in the name of justice.

Let's Play Septerra Core: Part 7 - Anticlimax

So finally, we are back once again, to the world of Septerra. This time, we venture forth into the most taboo place of the universe, the World Shell 7. The innermost world shell.
    [IMG]: What?
[IMG]: 10 years ago, mining operations were all over down here... Jinam wanted more land, sent a secret shocktrooper team to get rid of some of Ankara's claims.
    [IMG]: You were there?
[IMG]: Me and the Captain here fought for Jinam. When the truth came out about our troops killing innocents, there was practically a revolution. Soldiers like me weren't welcome at home anymore.
[IMG]: The military doesn't have any weight limit? Yeah,:patriot: looks very intimating.
[IMG]: So you became a bounty hunter at the world bazaar?
    [IMG]: ... Yeah.
[IMG]: Araym lost his arms in that war... He was a demolitions expert and...
[IMG]: Shut up... Let's get on with it.

We start out in the landing bay.
Let's pay a visit to the Bone Circle Village.

The Underlost villagers stop us from entering. We gather some clues from their grampy bone.
[IMG]: Might make good target practice...
[IMG]: The Bone circles, or the people?
    [IMG]: What's the difference...

Obviously, we have to do something to impress these primitive screwheads.
    Head into the mountain passage.

Fight some more powerful variants of bugs. Filler nonetheless.
Now before we enter this area...

We equip this that we bought from the bazaar.
Back then when no internet was available, this part literally took me months to figure out. The earplugs would protect us from the sonic noise generated by whatever lies within.

Now we can continue our adventure.
Let's find out who or what produces this noise!

    And we find this.
This machine is actually built by the Chosen to enslave the Underlost. The Underlost are blind and "see" by using their innate radar power. The Bone circles at the entrance of their village keep them at bay.

Therefore, destroying this would definitely earn us some brownie points.
It doesn't do much damage. The developers just didn't pull the trigger.

We have to attack its legs one by one to kill it. It has really high defense. Our weak attacks only do about 4 to 6 damage on average.
And interestingly enough, I managed to let Araym die.

We revive him with Smellsalts and heal him with bread.
He's back to a healthy condition.

Drenching in lava, it would only make sense for it to be vulnerable to water spells.
    Our hypothesis is correct!

So now, we just have to spam water spells on this spider machine.
    One leg is destroyed.

The second leg is gone also in no time.
We decide to summon the God of water, Poseidon or whatever this is called, on the last remaining leg.

This animation is around 10 to 20 seconds long. The length varies with different spells. In late game, it's all about spamming the most powerful spells, so it makes the already tedious filler fights last even longer. There's no way to skip this animation.
35 damage is a lot on this mofo.

    And Maya finishes it off.
    :yeah:
[IMG]: Well, the noise is gone...

Half of the quest is complete, now onto the other half.
    We go here.

    Pick this up.
[IMG]: Looks like a Lantern of some sort.

And this. We can talk to this fat guy but we're not going to do it. More info dump. And this stuff is for lost directionless sheep who have no idea where they're going.
    [IMG]: Looks like explosives.

    To the Dark Lake.
    CLICK!

    Using our newly acquired explosives...
    Fishing time!

Instead of catching fish, we exterminated the entire helgak population.
But, our quest to save the world is more important first and foremost. Sacrifices must be made.

Another bird is found. This is the forth bird.
More pointless combat. It takes a lot of time to tread through all this crap.

Pass the lake, we find this awesome looking place.
    CLICK!

Despite the excellent graphic in the world map, this area has absolutely nothing other than a balloon, which we'll use later in the game, and this.
[IMG]: Looks like a little piece of Helgak bone...

Now we have to run all the way back to the landing bay...
    The backtracking is a chore.

    Unpleasant, but necessary.
We travel back to World Shell 3.

    To find this guy.
[IMG]: What do you sell here?
[IMG]: I carve art from the bones of the Helgak.
    [IMG]: Can you carve this?
[IMG]: Easily. Helgak bone like this make great musical instruments. It is said that only the Bone of Helgak can reproduce the sounds of the Helgak's mating call.
[IMG]: Even though I'm a human, I wonder what our mating call is.
    :rpgcodex:: TITS OR GTFO!
[IMG]: Oh right. Thanks for reminding me that.
[IMG]: When you play it, it will mimick the sounds of a Helgak.

Before we leave, we make a stop to Bowman's grave to pay respect... Or...

Anyway, we have to go ALL THE WAY BACK to the area next to the lake.
    CLICK!

    This is the map.
Looks scary, eh? This is just the beginning. Southwest is the start. The exit at the top is blocked off for now. So we have to go to one of the two in the right.

The bottom area is also blocked off apparently.
There's only one place to go.

We find this strange plant. Maya proceeds to blow the flute. That didn't sound right...
    Yeah, blow it girl!

And the plant opens. We use the lantern we got from the mining camp to hold the foam.

The Underlost should be pleased now.
    Indeed.

We try our best to converse with these primitive creatures in a peaceful manner.
[IMG]: You speak our tongue? Where are your villagers?
[IMG]: Taken, outlanders take as slave...
[IMG]: Your town has very few structures...
[IMG]: We leave old village behind many years ago. Stay here when Hell God attack old village. Claw of God still in old village.
    [IMG]: Where's that?
[IMG]: In Mold Forest. You no go. Deep forest is poison to outlanders. Need helmets.
    [IMG]: You mean Gas masks?
[IMG]: The Chosen took your people, didn't they?
[IMG]: Outlanders took many. You enemy?
[IMG]: Of them? Yes. But we don't know how to find them.
[IMG]: Our greatest warrior help. Take you to them and bring back Underlost.
[IMG]: Badu. Help you get to outlander. Help you kill outlander.
    [IMG]: Thank you.

    Traded Corgan out for Badu.
Badu is a very strong fighter. High defense, high attack, high core. The only disadvantage he has is somewhat slower speed. Still, he's a lot faster than Runner, yet still has a decent amount of core to support and compliment the rest of the party. He's like beefed up version of Runner.

While inside of the mountain passage.
    Badu finds something.

He slashes the wall, revealing some exotic ore.
[IMG]: He must have been able to sense the ore in the wall.
[IMG]: This stuff looks valuable. But, I'd have to dig it out if I wanted any.
[IMG]: I killed many a man so that my country could mine this stuff. Hardly seems worth it now.
[IMG]: You don't want any of it?
[IMG]: I didn't say that! Doric Ore is worth a ton on the black market!
[IMG]: He seems to recognize the Ore. I'll bet his people have been working with it for hundreds of years.

More on this later. Back to the Mold Forest. Remember the blocked entrance?
Badu can open this, allowing us passage.

We find some minor treasure from a nearby chest.
SeaPrism is a water protection charm.

Within the depths of the forest, we find the mine. Fight some Chosen soldiers.
And we help Underlost prisoners escape.

    Kaleb stops us.
[IMG]: Gunnar's fleet is on his way. Surrender...
[IMG]: Gunnar? So, he sent you to do his dirty work while he runs home to ask for some more toys, eh? Shortsighted fool. Well, too late, girl. Doskias' lenses are already completed. He only awaits the right time to unleash them on the Core.
[IMG]: Then you're of no use to us. We must reach those lens platforms. Surrender or die.
[IMG]: No, I think you can deal with my mining Helgak. It should be enough to destroy you!
[IMG]: And of course, Maya's speech checks always fail. You should just let me doing the talking.

    Another boss fight!
How do we defeat it? Well, we have attack its head. Once it's been hit several times, the exoskeleton armor opens up, allowing us on opportunity to do one attack. After the hit, it would close up again. This is going to take a while.

We have Maya and Araym continuously attack the shell. In the meantime, Badu charges up, since he's the most damaging character in our party.
49 Damage on the helgak. The helgak, I would say, has approximately 600 to 800 HP. And it actually packs quite a punch. Its beam does 25 to 40 damage each time and it attacks rather frequently. Araym takes a lot of damage.

    Bread to the rescue!
    Back to 122 HP.

The helgak lowers its guard once again.
Badu's strong attack does a whooping 80 damage! He hits so hard, the entire screen went slightly purple!

But our timing isn't always perfect. Sometimes when its guard is open, it can use its special attack.
    :rage:

This is the only fight so far in the game, that is remotely challenging.
Our first potion of the game. 200 HP to all characters. A bit OP...

    And the marathon ends finally.
    :yeah:

The rocks collapsed onto the helgak.
    Agreed.

We ride the flying saucer to the platform.
Where we will confront Doskias and end this game.

    Looks can be deceiving...
    9 Damage? This is awful.

From the chest in the control center.
It increases the "Strike" attribute, which from what I've been able to understand, measures the "to hit." Doesn't make any difference at all if you ask me. Nevertheless, we equip this on Maya.

And... the game is... OVER!!! DOSKIAS IS DEFEATED!
    :yeah:

Wait! There's some commotion going on!
    :rage:

FUS RO DAH?! SHE KNOCKS GUNNAR BACK! SAVING DOSKIAS!?

I hate Selina with a passion because of this...
    [IMG]: He's getting away!
[IMG]: I only meant to stop him, not let him get away...
[IMG]: We have to get out of here!

    Cinematic time.
Our heroes, unfortunately, can't make it out in time. The platform explodes and starts to crash.

The fragments plunge into the lower shells. And among them, are our protagonists.
    TO BE CONTINUED.

Next Time: Can our heroes survive this dreadful voyage into the an impact crater? Or are they to meet their end in the name of gravity? Their fate will be revealed in the update We find our final party member and face the notorious leader of the pirates in Shell 6.

By the way, bros, united we stand, divided we fall. So please bump.

Had the game ended right there it would've been better. Either that or thinning the filler. What is the point of touting something as a "20+ hours long epic" when it comes to that? Not that the usual JRPG is that different either.

This is exactly like how some people call Oblivion a 50 hours game, when in reality, 48 hours consist of copy-and-pasted generic dungeons. I wouldn't mind one bit if the game ended here. And I agree, the graphics are still excellent. Visually, the game aged pretty well.

Let's Play Septerra Core: Part 8 - Connor The Horny Pirate

Last time, we were on the lens platform when it crashed. Don't worry, we are invincible.
    [IMG]: Where am I?
[IMG]: Wake up, Maya. You have much to do...
    [IMG]: Mom?

Maya wakes up and recollects herself.
[IMG]: It looks like a shard of the Core lens.
And we pick this up from the ground.

The moment we left the platform remains, Connor and his henchmen enter the area.
Don't know what they're up to, but I have a feeling we'll find out soon enough.

    World map time.
We'll first head to Scumm Town to purchase some new equipment and pick up some important items, then we'll go through the mountain passage and visit Pranno.

The town is divided into two sections. The barter mall is where we go first. It really has nothing interesting in it, other than several shops.
    CLICK!

New weapons for Maya and Araym.
Notice the enormous amount of gold that we have.

    Weapon for Badu.
We're going to dump him soon.

    Then we buy these items.
The "Blades" gives Araym a special attack in his first interval. 5 core energy for a stronger attack than regular weak attack. The meat is quest item that we'll use when we get to the swamp.

Next, we have to pick up another quest item from the shipping docks.
    It is found on floor.

    That's it for Scumm Town.
    CLICK!

This is the fifth bird. Half of the game is completed.
Strategically placed bird seed made it seemed like the bird is actually eating it.

We enter the nearby tavern and find some familiar faces.
[IMG]: We barely survived the crash of the Lens Platforms...
[IMG]: I shouldn't have deserted you... I wanted to save Doskias because I believed he could change... Now I know that he can't be saved from himself. I'm sorry.
[IMG]: She'll just do it again, Maya. She endangers the entire group!
[IMG]: I saw that the lenses were going to crash here, but I-I couldn't reach you in time; I did convince the ship captain to bring us all here, to look for you.
    [IMG]: We have a ship?
[IMG]: No, he refused to stay on Shell 6. He was afraid of the Pirates.
[IMG]: How are we going to get off this stink-shell?
[IMG]: I know a local pirate named Lobo... Fought with him in the war. He has a ship.
[IMG]: Ya, but can we trust him?
[IMG]: I don't trust any pirate!
[IMG]: He's an honorable sort, I think he'll help us if I talk to him...
[IMG]: It sounds like our best bet...

This is a good time to recruit Selina.
Good character combat wise. She has excellent core energy which means she'll be very strong in the late game. I'll never forgive her for making this game twice as long though. She's still a bitch.

    Time for some marshland menace.
    CLICK!

First we explore the East Marsh.
    CLICK AGAIN!

    What do we have here?
The sixth bird? We're getting closer and closer to the ultimate weapons and armors of the game.

    Remember the meat we bought?
[IMG]: Well, now I've got some leeches.

These are the enemies that you expect to face here in this swamp.
Araym uses the BladeSpin ability from the "Blades" upgrade we bought earlier. Now, even our weakest attacks can do massive damage on armored opponents like the crab. High level crabs don't gain much extra HP, so they become relatively easy to kill at this point.

The fire spiders can be a bit obnoxious.
57 damage, still too low to be threatening. A couple pieces of bread will fix things up.

After I explored the area like a true bro, we head to the West Swamp.
    CLICKA!

These guys are the most annoying bastards in the entire game. They can cast Berserk on us. Sometimes when they're in a bad mood, they might spam that spell on all the character, which means we'll have to wait until the duration ends before we gain control back. They can easily Berserk lock us for all eternity.
So with that being said, the best strategy is RUN AWAY!

We find something near the bush.
A sleep plant you idiot! It says on the plant.

    Back in the mountains.[IMG]
We follow an ancient passage that leads us to...

    Snowy mountains!
    More recycled graphics.

We cautiously approach the giant bee, hoping to snatch one of her eggs without being noticed.
[IMG]: Thank you for ruining our plan, genius.

And of course, we fail as always.
Another mini boss for us to slaughter.

The monster does more or less the same damage that the fire spiders do.
Very weak for a boss. It should be doing at least 100 if this fight were to be interesting.

    ArmBlast from Araym connected.
Unnaturally high defense. With its fire based attacks, this could only mean one thing...

    Water vulnerability?
Araym and Selina proceed to call forth the Queen of the Sea to attack this beast.

The Queen summons an even bigger beast to overwhelm this bug.
She's sitting on the whale if you look closely enough.

    And as expected.
The bee takes heavy damage from the spell.

We spam several more water spells on this mutant. And it's gone.
Good reward for a mini boss.

Now that its nest is unprotected, we can take some of the eggs.
[IMG]: Of course it is! What, you thought it's an Easter egg?

Now we have all the required ingredients to make the ultimate quest item.
Use the drill on the egg.

After that, we put the sleep plant into the hole.
This is what we end up with.

We head back into the swamp and use the modified egg here.
Luring the water helgak to the surface.

It eats the egg along with the embedded sleep plant.
    Indeed.

Then we use the leeches on the sleeping helgak.
The helgak blood we collected is going to be very useful, you'll see.

Let's go to the final area of the swamp.
    CLICK!

As we enter the landing bay...
A ship lands and out comes a robot.

    He approaches us peacefully.
[IMG]: One and the same, tin boy.
[IMG]: Never thought I'd see a friendly face on this shell again.
[IMG]: This is your friend? Isn't he a Jinam Combat Cyborg.
[IMG]: Used to be, when we fought in the war. But Lobo's ship crashed and he was salvaged by a mechanic here on Shell 6. Fixed his brain so he had free thought.
[IMG]: I ended up being a Pirate, like my new father, but eventually he died.
[IMG]: Aye, Connor drove the old man to death with his gangs.
[IMG]: Yeah, well that bastard Connor is still gunnin' for ME.
[IMG]: What did you do this time?
[IMG]: Refused to pay him tribute. So he took my crew captive.
[IMG]: We need help getting off shell, it's urgent.
[IMG]: Well, I ain't goin' nowhere without my crew.
    [IMG]: Where are they held?
[IMG]: In Connor's base. He's the biggest pirate leader, yeah, has a whole island for a fortress. Only way in is through a docking bay under water.
[IMG]: You don't pay tribute to Connor?
[IMG]: Never. Every petty gang on the shell pays him, but not me. I'd rather stand up and fight than give him what isn't his. He takes most tribute in the form of slave girls. And I don't deal in slavery.
[IMG]: Connor accepts tattooed slave girls for tribute?
[IMG]: Yeah, he's obsessed with Kyra and her tattoos.
[IMG]: I'll bet I could pass for a slave girl. It could get me into his base to rescue your crew.
[IMG]: If you can find a disguise, come back here and I'll help you get into a ship headed for Connor's Island base.

Now we go back to the Tattoo Shop in Scumm Town.
[IMG]: What kind of place is this?
    [IMG]: Tattoo parlor, want one?
[IMG]: I heard about slave girls with full body tattoos used as tribute to the pirates.
[IMG]: Connor's obsessed with Kyra, wants all of his girls to be made up like her. I just did one of them yesterday, she couldn't stand the pain.
    [IMG]: It's that bad?
[IMG]: Yeah. But I can do painless temporary ones if I have the right ink. I make it from the blood of swamp Helgak. Usually get the blood out with leeches after putting the Helgak to sleep.

We already did all that. Let's hand the helgak blood to the tattoo artist.

[IMG]: Wow, Leeches with swamp Helgak blood. I could use this to make some great temporary tattoos.
[IMG]: You can have the blood, if you use some of it to give me a full body tattoo, like the slave girls have...
    [IMG]: Doing some night work?
    [IMG]: You bet.
    [IMG]: Mind your own business.
[IMG]: Well, just come on back, and we'll be done in no time.
    [IMG]: That wasn't so bad.
[IMG]: The tattoos will go away in a few weeks.

Let's report our success to Lobo.
[IMG]: You gonna use them to get inside Connor's base?
[IMG]: I'll get your crew back, and then we can get off this shell. Deal?
    [IMG]: Hot damn.
[IMG]: Okay, here's a key to the ship port in Scumm town. It'll get you onto the right ship. Take this flare gun. When you get inside the base find a back door for us to get in, fire it into the air, and I'll fly to you. Got it?
[IMG]: We'll stash your weapons and equipment in some shipping crates, so make sure you find them as soon as you get inside. Now, choose who else, besides me, that you want to bring along...
    Lobo hands us these trinkets.

    We'll take Araym along.
    For now.

Run all the way back to the shipping docks in Scumm town.
[IMG]: Hey! Official business only. Someone would have to steal this right out from under my eyes... so don't even think about it.

Araym should be able to steal it.
    CLICK.
    [IMG]: What's that?
[IMG]: This? It's a shipping Manifest. Papers that you need to get into the Docks.
    [IMG]: Hey, what was that?
    [IMG]: What...
[IMG]: I dunno, must have been the wind...
    Done and done.

    Everything is according to plan.
    Araym is awesome.

Maya then strips down to her bikinis.
    [IMG]: :bounce:
    [IMG]: Hey, let's go.
    [IMG]: :bounce:
    [IMG]: ...

Let's help other slave girls escape.
    [IMG]: :bounce::bounce:
[IMG]: I'm Maya, I'm here to save you.
[IMG]: I'll signal you when I've found a way in.
[IMG]: I wonder how long this is going to take?
[IMG]: It better takes as long as possible! :bounce:
    [IMG]: ...
[IMG]: All hands prepare for docking...

With the Kyra disguise, Maya successfully bypasses the pirate security system.
There she goes into the base.

Where she is taken to Connor.
[IMG]: Prepare her? How? Stir fry? Anyway... :bounce:

Conveniently, Connor sent Maya to the room where all her equipment is stored.
    [IMG]: :bounce:

    Back to a tomboy!
    [IMG]:  ... :(

    With only one character.
Excellent. One enemy at a time. This is going to be fun.

We need to find a place to signal Lobo.
    Follow this path.

    Then we hit the switch.
Along the way we kill some pirates.

    And out we go.
    Oh yeah.

    This is Lobo.
Brilliant combat specialist. Extremely high armor, which compensates for the healing penalty as a robot. High damage and speed. He lacks quite a bit of core to be a major late game player, but who I am kidding, one can beat the game with any combination of characters. Low core simply means we won't be able to dispatch filler enemies as quick.

    Now back to the cave.
    Get the blue key.

    Use the key here.
    Opens the blue door.

Get the red key from the room.
    Then we go to...

    The red door.
    Open sesame.

Finally, we confront Connor in his throne room, who is fapping to pictures of Kyra.
[IMG]: I see you brought some friends to replace your father. Aren't you one of my slaves?
    [IMG]: *wink*
[IMG]: I'll never forgive you for the death of my father!
[IMG]: No, Lobo. I am your father.
[IMG]: NO! That's not true! That's impossible!
    [IMG]: :retarded:
[IMG]: Just kidding. That's not going to work. Time to die, bitch.
    [IMG]: :smug:
[IMG]: Lobo, Lobo, a robot has no family...
    [IMG]: I did.
    [IMG]: Not anymore...

    A super boss fight!
We have to attack the turrets next to Connor.

After around 3, 4 hits, the turret spins.
    And aims at Connor.

Apparently the targeting system of the turrets is extremely primitive, as it is only able to shoot straight forward.
Connor happens to be in the top turret's line of fire and takes 53 damage.

After several rounds of smashing those turrets repeatedly, they both are aimed at Connor's direction.
    He then unleashes hell on...

    Lobo is the unlucky victim.
85 damage is a lot. However, after facing the mining helgak and its 60 damage to all attack, this is nothing.

We continue to keep the turrets pointing at Connor at all times.
He is taking a lot of damage because of this.

But the turrets can be unpredictable at times.
Beam attack does a total of 78 damage.

When the situation goes out of hand, we can always use the good old OP item.
Potion! 200 HP to all! Note that it only heals 130 on Lobo. Robots have their share of disadvantages.

The turret at the top blasts Connor into skyrim.
Unfortunately, he is more resourceful than we have thought.

He runs faster than those Kenyans.
[IMG]: Just let him go, we still have to save your crew...
[IMG]: It's a ring of keys.
    :yeah:

    Let's free Lobo's crew.
[IMG]: Let's get out of here.

    And GTFO.
[IMG]: Welcome back crew. Now get us outta here!

Inside Lobo's ship, we contemplate our next plan.
[IMG]: I'm looking at the Jinam Restraining Chips in here. You never figured out how to get rid of 'em, huh?
[IMG]: My father destroyed mine, but never showed me how...
[IMG]: No problem, here we go...
    [IMG]: Lobo? I'm free!
    [IMG]: Amazing!
[IMG]: Your ship is amazing... We could certainly use someone like you.
[IMG]: My ship and I are both at your disposal...
[IMG]: See, I told you he was an honorable sort.
[IMG]: Wait a minute, these things killed my people, they're monsters!
[IMG]: They aren't anymore Led, they're free now...
[IMG]: I won't work with it. And don't come crying to me when it goes berserk and kills us all...
[IMG]: Maya, we must go to the upper layer and seek out Gunnar and the Emperor.
[IMG]: You believe Gunnar escaped the Battle of the Lenses?
[IMG]: She's just interested in finding her beloved Doskias!
[IMG]: The Emperor is the only one who can help us...
[IMG]: Wind City needs our help. We should go to Shell 3 and help free my people.
[IMG]: Right, um-hmmm, you just want to return to your sweet Layla...
    [IMG]: *ANGRY STARE*
[IMG]: You two should get a room.
[IMG]: Please, quiet! Without the Chosen to stand against Doskias, we'll never liberate Wind City...
[IMG]: We will follow where you lead, Maya.

So here it is, free travel.
    TO BE CONTINUED.

Next Time: We head to Shell 1 and speak with the Emperor. As always, expect a twist.
