First, the Wasteland planet. We may be able top interrupt their base construction before it is finished.
So we have lost two squads of Ultramarines so far. 2nd and 3rd Squads have consolidated into one experienced unit, and the rest of the Tactical Marines are but rookies. Fortunately, we have three squads of Tacticals left, and the rest of the Company filled besides the Librarian.
Brother Garfunkel was demoted after his friendly fire incident last mission. Former Tactical Marine Oscar replaces him.
Along with Brother Yeesh, who steps into the vacancy left by the heroic Storyfag.
Two Ultramarines from the less-experienced Tactical squads are given a Chainsword and Bolt Pistol, bringing Hellraiser's squad back to full strength:
And we deploy.
We start with good position along the ridge of a hill.
In the distance, a squad of Terminators plods towards us.
And at least two Daemons stare at us without moving.
The Assault unit flanks to the right
And pops smoke.
The first few shots from our long range units miss their marks.
Cue Terminator Jack, Assault Cannon in fist.
Assault Cannon vs Chaos Terminators...
2 - 0.
The rest of the enemy Terminator squad is easy to break. But then a squad of regular Traitor Marines appears. No doubt at least one lugs is lugging a machine gun.
Oscar fires his heavy flamer through the gaps of the building in front of him.
And many a heretic burned this day.
Another Terminator Chain Fist, which is good, because we could use one or two more.
Before the next mission, the Commissar learns a new spell...
Fire from the depths of Hell...
The Arctic planet, where Chaos already has a defensive point set up.
One heavy weapon. Priority target.
Sorcerer. Priority target if it comes within small arms range.
The Tacticals and Terminators can't get any shot through the mess of trees, yet they are still in the open, so the Marines pop smoke.
On our right flank, a squad of Khorne Berzerkers smell untainted blood, and swim forward like sharks in the sea.
And a squad of Terminators is behind them, also itching to charge.
Very well. We set up in cover and wait to whittle down their charge via overwatch, and then counterattack.
Still, it is best to neutralize the heavy weapon as soon as possible. Assault Squad makes a daring... assault.
Darius manages to incinerate one foe with a krak grenade.
Just in case, they throw out a few smoke bombs, limiting the enemies' use of their superior firearms.
Then the rest of the squad drops in from above like hammers. One Traitor falls not long after to flame and axe.
Brother Slaughter maims one Traitor with his Reaper power axe.
Then he splits this one from crown to jewels.
After the last Word Bearer drowns in his own blood, the Assault Squad takes the opportunity to enact the latter section of the "hit-and-run" maneuver.
Taking cover behind this wall. For the enemy Terminators are close, only on the other side of the buildings to the east.
Predictably, the Berzerkers charge at the Ultramarine Terminators.
But sprinting in a straight line directly at a Terminator... is not a good idea.
Case in point.
The Commissar purges a Chaos Sorcerer from existence.
And now only three enemy Terminators stand between us and victory.
At this point, I order Hellraiser's squad to stick a melta bomb on one of the enemy Terminators.
The smoke clears, revealing a barely damaged suit of Tactical Dreadnought armor.
Fine, let's stick another one on him.
He survives the second melta bomb as well...
Then Sergeant Gondolin loses patience and headshots the Terminator to finish the damn mission already.
Oo, Melta Missiles. Waiting to see some enemy armor before I use these.
And the final optional mission...
I somehow lost or did not screencap the fight.
It was pretty exciting, too. But only one death (of a non-Codexer).
It was a fun fight. Chaos Space Marines in the canyon with at least two heavy weapons. Berzerkers charging directly at my troops. And a squad of Terminators in the rear protecting their objective.
Oh well!
Now...
Wait a few hours for a surprise!
