There's really no reason to feel threatened by mobile games. It's practically an entirely different industry than the mainstream video game industry, and it appeals to an entirely different market. I doubt mobile games are even directly competing with handheld consoles, much less core PC and console games.

While they have different markets, they do pull from the same pool of developers.

Tell that to games like Shadowrun Returns: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=3006992#post3006992 or Broken Age which were designed with the mind of capturing tablet and possibly mobile audiences or others like Botanicula and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery with even more banal one-click/tap designs.

Also see some of the latest prophecies: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-11-06-square-enix-back-in-the-black-as-a-new-era-dawns
Square Enix returned to profitability in the first half of fiscal 2014 as it's new focus on digital and mobile releases started to bear fruit.
...
In its earnings report, Square Enix stated that Digital Entertainments will now change strategy in two areas: a shift in focus to online games with variable pricing models for its overseas studios, and accelerated production of mobile games for its Japanese studios. This fits with comments made by the company's current president Yosuke Matsuda, who pointed to a future defined by fluid business models, regular content drops and constant customer interaction.

Or in regards to EA: http://tstogame.com/2013/10/30/tapped-out-revenue-exceeds-100-million-dollars/
That’s a lot of dough(nuts)! We knew that this game was making Electronic Arts money, but now we have an idea of just how much! Yes, a game that is completely free-to-play and has no upfront costs has made the company $100 million dollars since its launch a little over a year ago.
Or their newest abomination: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/ea-rapes-dungeon-keeper.85755/

I just don't think the market has long-term stability and the people playing these "games" now will likely abandon it as soon as there is some other shiny on the horizon like they did with all the Social games and the Wii.

There's a reason why other companies like Activision didn't jump at the chance immediately:

While EA went out and made some more 100 million dollar acquisitions, some of which have already backfired.

Same with Capcom. They have invested money from Monster Huter 4 sales into 3 new mobile games studios in Japan, despite losing money because of that.

True enough. I certainly don't spend a ton of time acting like reality television stops me from watching HBO.

Low hanging fruit is fun though.
