In no other medium do people fuck around with their media like they do with computer games. Some aspiring artist doesn't 'improve' the Mona Lisa. An aspiring composer doesn't 'improve' Mozart. An aspiring film director doesn't 'improve' their old movies [oh, right, wait...], An aspiring author doesn't 'improve' someone else's book [they tried that with the Bible, and that really helped a lot...].
what the fuck is this gay comparison with artz, also it just shows how much you know about art (i.e. next to nothing)

Yes dear, of all my posts and comments in this thread, this one little paragraph is getting repeated ad-nausea by mentally retarded dickheads that have no interest in the topic but are just looking for a line to ridicule. Sure, distil the entire thread into this one paragraph (that was mildly humerous in intent in the first place), because that makes you look really bright.

Sure people fuck around with media. But that's all it is, fucking around. It's neither needed nor imperative in 99% of cases, and most of the time its just naval gazing a game you really should be moving on from.

In relation to mods & patches I can see why both have thier place, so this isn't a comment on whether they do/don't belong.

What I will say though is that, from my own personal POV as a gamer reared very much in the 80's on arcades & consoles, it's fucking shocking how much both patches & mods are used as a crutch for modern games now. And how unfinished some games are on release.

I never buy a game new now for this very reason. Not because I won't pay full price, I glady would for a finished product, but because I know 99% of the time it'll be at least 6 month to a year before the game is at a remotely finished stage. Christ The Witcher 3 has been sucked off from every angle possible, and you couldn't even walk properly in it until a few patches later.

Another reason older games tended to be less buggy is because people bought them on disc from a shop. If it had major bug problems people would take the game back and get a refund. Steam didn't even offer refunds until, what, a year ago, and even then its only within some ridiculously short time-frame. Yes, refund systems can get abused, but why is the focus always on customers abusing the system but never the businessmen!

Games were still creating massive problems back then. I can still remember scenes in a computer shop where people had heated arguments because a game would not run, and someone demanded their money back. Ever so often you had these "game needs at least 610 kb RAM to run" problems and people without good knowledge of DOS had no way to clean up that much memory.

In that respect I can still remember that patching over the internet was godsend. As was modding, I had made mods to my own games before I hooked up the first modem, for example I modded the code of Oil Imperium, Pirates, and made my own skins in Indycar racing. I did that before I even knew the word modding  But when it was becoming easy to get them from the entire world it was a total liberation.

That's why I think the topic is exposingly stupid and the OP is a fag. There has hardly been any great game that reached it's full potential without mods. Though there are certainly tons of crap out there and there is always an element of wasting your time. But apart from a few exceptions like the Dwarf Fortress guy, developers always stop before the work of real fine tuning begins, and some players are extremely good at that.

That was your experience. My experience was different. I don't know why you need to call me retarded just because you enjoyed tinkering with stuff. If the game works and does pretty much what it said it was going to do then that's that, game played, fun had, job done. I've never had the urge to break the toy down to see how the insides work (my brother would have though, and he went into computer programming, we actively had to keep toys out of his reach lest they be found dismembered).

Are you retarded or just weak in the head?

  • Content. Do you refuse expansion packs as well? If not, what's the difference between an official expansion and unofficial content mod matching or even exceeding its quality?
  • Bug fixes. Do you refuse official patches as well? If not, how does the authorship of a patch make any difference?
  • Assorted tweaks and QoL improvements. If something itches you, do you scratch this itch or just blather about how if you didn't enjoy the body you have - itches and whatnot - you'd commit a suicide?
Do you really think that if you install your carefully selected (possibly even purist) collection of mods, St. Prosper will suddenly appear and wave his magic wang wand around, turning every character in your game into a naked animu girl with a huge sword, unnaturally coloured hair and a handful of dicks growing out of forehead?

AutisticDevice truly thinks that if a disgruntled employee puts flying dongs in a game, then it's fine because it's 'official' and 'the way it was meant to be'

There is no shame in posting a retarded topic if you can finally admit it.
Now just write to Infinitron that the topic can be retardo and we forget the issue, ok?

Can you accept the fact that I've never needed a single mod nor single patch in my entire gaming history, and I've had no shortage of decent games. Can you actually cope with that idea, or does that mere suggestion make you flip your shit like an SJW who's just seen a swastika?

As I've already said [this is the fourth time I've said this now] I wouldn't class unofficial expansions as mods, they are just unofficial expansions. New scenarios. Same game, more content.
So you never use mods but still feel in a position to tell us, who use mods, what is a mod.
As I've already said [this is the second time now] I've never once needed to patch a game. official or not.
This is just stupid.
As I've already said [this is the second time now] if you like a game then you'll put up with annoying shit that you will moan about as constructive criticism for future expansions but are not motivated to bother 'fixing'.
What? Why would you put up with annoying shit if you can stop having the shit that annoys you? Are you some sort of masochist monk or something?

First point - you're free to tell me all the different types, and I'm free to mock the ones that sound utterly retarded, yes?

Second point - Why is it stupid that I've never needed to patch a game? What a stupid point to make.

Third point - How do you know what's annoying to you unless you've played the game? How do you class the exact annoyance level of something before its worth modding? Is it annoying because it's actually annoying, like the sound of chalk on a blackboard or whatever, or is it annoying because you have some autistic minor issue with some mechanic that no-one else gives a shit about? Without examples, I have no idea what to mock and what not to mock, obviously.

I'd add to the list of approved mods (tm) those mods who undo censorship applied by kwan tomfoolery. The western Wizardry snes ports are infamous for this (or prctically every localization made by kwans).

Sounds good. In this case you're undoing the shoddy modding done by the kwan (whatever a kwan is) censors.

Most of the time I can't be bothered to use mods. Like if they're bethesda games, I just say fuck it and don't even bother, because it's just too much of a hassle. If you need 70 mods for the game to be playable, then you can just fuck off. I'm not wasting my time with this shit when I can just play something else that's actually good. Doesn't help that most of those mods are unbalanced garbage and waifu shit. The fact that sex mods are so popular just tells you about the average modder and mod user. Fapping to awkward Skyrim sex animations is even more pathetic than fapping to tranny scat porn.

I love mods for games like Mount & Blade and Total War since they usually are very simple to install and include some great content and effort that rivals vanilla. That's usually because the framework for these games is good, unlike bethesda garbage.

In short, if you need mods to make a game ""playable"" then that game is shit in the first place.

This is actually funny, because you have stuff like Sexvilla which is like Loverslab: the Game, yet people still mod Skyrim to have Loverslab content. Or Honey Select if you're a weeb. People are weird man.

And on every fucking one I just wanna type "just play the fucking game you idiot and if its crap play something else, stop using your life to dig crappy developers out of a hole all the time."
I think the "who NEVER use mods" brigade seriously needs to STOP whining and wasting other people's time with such topics, offering their perspective over why someone prefers to play their games modded, irrespective of the expectations from the developers.

I'm probably the only one left who thinks that modding in XYZ 'fix' is more akin to typing in a cheat code than 'making the game better'. I bet it's all the same people who type in cheat codes automatically without even thinking about it.
So, here it goes. Its the same, old, tried and tested accusation being repeated again. Seriously, this "more akin to typing in a cheat code" sounds so silly that I really one thing to say, "why don't you first USE mods, and then present your perspective".
Try these, for example:
* Mods that make piece of shit Bethesda games day one releases to acceptable levels of frustration that doesn't hurt the brain of the gamers who already has suffered through ENOUGH on every Bethesda release in the past.
* Mods that games like GTA V has to offer. Its the mods that can only make any right thinking, sensible person enough to justify downloading such a big game that's actually a complete mess and full of issues otherwise.
* The community working on older games like Baldur's gate 2 offer insane amount of fixes and improvements that literally brings the game closer to what the original developers would want to offer, but couldn't release due to whatever compulsions/reasons they may have.

If you still think that these mods are "more akin to typing in a cheat code" then sorry to say, you are literally just another uneducated and illiterate person who could barely understand the term "cheat" let alone understand the value of "modifications" ( full form of mods ) to feel the real essence of what makes so many PC players enjoy the mods.
You are having a very narrow view of the term mods, which usually console players and "who never USED mods" brigade keep talking about without knowing the difference between cheats and mods.
Cheats are what the developers offer "in-game" without correcting gaming errors, patching or fixing bugs, or improving the gameplay for the better. Mods address primarily all of these aspects. Nobody downloads a mod for simply using "cheats" in game, but to make the experience better after playing the vanilla game, and understanding the omissions, mistakes, and errors on part of the developers that the modifications attempt to either fully solve or offer variety of options for a different experience altogether.

That's the kind of perk that makes PC gaming attractive for many. But, unfortunately, console players, and the "who never USED mods" brigade can't digest the fact that PC players are ABLE to get more put of their money's worth without having to pay extra for DLC's and micro-transactions for unlocking cheats, etc.
Games like Mafia City of Lost Heaven which are quite polished, balanced and hardly have any gameplay related problems are very few, compared to a large number of releases that fall short of their own potential, let alone players expectations, that mods are the only way to boost "replayability" over time. I still enjoy playing Mafia 1 without any mods since the vanilla game is almost perfect for my enjoyment.

If this thread isn't retardo-worthy then I don't know what is.
Also OP needs the following tags (looking up zerotol's ribbon rack):
dumbfuck.gif

village_idiot.gif

possibly_retarded.png

illiterate.gif

shitposter.png

and of course
TypicalModder.png

So chop chop administration, get to it.
And I wanna get out of jail btw, as safe as I feel with all these crazy Codex people on the other side of the bars there has to be another way to live together in peace. I mean we are all grown-ups, aren't we?
