Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Ultima 6 Project made me buy Dungeon Siege.

Also Ultima V Lazarus.

Older games in general have very strong mods, I didn't buy the games for the mods but the mods prolonged their life massively for me:

Doom for Brutal Doom and the countless WADs that exist out there.
Quake for the countless fan-made maps that exist out there.
Thief for the countless fan missions that exist out there.

Are we counting games so buggy nobody would touch them without fan patches?

X3 Albion Prelude > X3: Albion Prelude Star Wars Mod
https://www.moddb.com/mods/mikhail-skatchkov/downloads/x3ap-star-wars-mod-106-alpha-core-repack

This guy deserves a medal, its got everything from the X3 game, with just about every Star Wars ship - and sounds - included. I've got a 3.2GHZ x8 core processor, 12 GBDDR3 Ram, 1GB video card, and it struggled a bit once I had a complex with over 50 stations, but otherwise in beta but perfectly playable. A few ships cause the game to stutter, but getting your first Star Destroyer and outfitting it is a sense of accomplishment I haven't felt since the early Mech games.

Looked interesting, then I saw it was infested with Disney's Soy Wars.

Being a bit of a dick here - but didn't watch the new films past Force Awakens, so there isn't sufficient soy present in my system to effect my enjoyment of the mod. Most of the ships are from the original fimls though, I think he said that was his vision. But all of the ships from the classic Lucasarts games are in there; the ones from the Jedi Knight games and so on. He even got the Ebon Hawk in - well you buy the stock version, the actual Ebon Hawk (unless someone beats me to it) I was going to fund from his Indigogog fundraiser - where you can actually get the modder to create the ship to specifications.

Is there a ship list? I saw the Soylo Falcon in the gallary and noped out.

This is an old ship list, I thinkthe reason he's moving onto the newer ships is because he's done so many from past material.

I literally bought XCOM 1 (full price) to play Long War.
Did not regret it, 600+ hours so far.

Renaissance mod for Warlock 2
Also this, but I just trusted a few players' reviews, can't really say anything yet about it, I'm playing XCOM 2.

Plenty of older games that don't work well now (and some that never did).

I probably wouldn't have risked F:NV's buggy rep without 5 years of bugfix mods

Vampires: the Masquerade Bloodlines, where GoG ship the wesp patch by default

I wouldn't have blown 99p on Arcanum without the reasonable hope that someone on the internet has fixed whatever doesn't work

I also spent circa £2.50 on JA2 because of internet rumours about something callend "1.13"

Seems good. No idea why the dev decided to shit it up with the Disney Falcon though. Still a few obvious ommision like the Cloakshape, an staple of EU pirates and excellent grunt fodder (I'm surprised the Dunelizard got in ahead of it, that only has Galaxies and some RPG supplements), the other models of the Action series (no Action 6 means no Wild Karrde, though the differences are pretty small between the models) and Uglies (unforgivable!).

Mmm I have bought a lot of games that didn’t love at the beginning but really enjoyed a whole lot properly moded but I cannot think of one I bought exclusively to play a mod...
Ah I got it, the Mount and Blade games; even before getting them I had a pile of mods ready to go heh

Oh and about Dungeon Siegue, yup it was as souless as games can be and made much much worse that I decided to buy that pos instead of Freedom Force... Beign a punk kid with a shitty job I could only buy 3, 4 games a year so I had to wade through that torture until I finished it, thankfully I got lucky selling a project and bought Freedom Force and the Tribunal expansion for Morrowind

I bought ARMA 3 after announcement of “All in Arma” mod (now called CUP) which adds all the units from previous games upgraded to the latest one. Nowadays I would buy it for Unsung - the best virtual vietnam experience I ever had. Or the RHS, or Ravage or Train simulator. Strangely the most fun I had was with SCMod which allows you to play as a firefighter in helicopter or plane and put out realistically spreading fire. There is just too much stuff. Now that the base game is almost done, mods are really getting interesting.
