I've been playing RE:ORC again and Hunters in it are just absolutely nasty.

They are also in RE:Revelations and just as evil. On the plus side, their weak point is easier to hit than zombie's.

Now this is a thing that exudes fear and horror.

What's that? A gun that shoots a mini-chrysallid at you? And the brainsuckers spawns immediately on the alien turn WITH FULL MOTHERFUCKING TUs? AND THIS IS A GOD DAMNED STARTING WEAPON FOR ALIENS?

For some reason, these guys always creep the fuck out of me every single time, no matter that I know exactly where you run into them and what they do. Bloodsuckers tend to be the standard scary encounter that everyone thinks about when talking about STALKER mutants, but they never got to me as much as the goddamned Controllers. There's just something oddly and profoundly unsettling about them and I'm not entirely sure what. The way they mess up your vision, that damn sound blaring through your headphones, the sudden zoom in-zoom out effects of their attack, their grotesque, misshapen heads, the Zone lore about them driving people mad, etc.

Probably the fact their powers are affecting the player directly (via interface fuckup), not just the character. Now that I'm thinking about it, an horror game where the baddie ignores the PC and turns his attention to YOU would be pants-shitting.

I remember losing a duel to some fuck at the beginning of Star Ocean 2. Of course I wasn't gonna have that, so I spent the next 20 hours nonstop and without sleep grinding levels until I was powerful enough to beat the main boss in the entire game. Still this fuck I dueled hit me for 33% of my max HP and was immune to all of my attacks. So I couldn't beat some pedestrian that joined my party but I could beat the main boss of the game? Fuck that shit. Star Ocean can go to hell. That is pure evil.
