MYTHIC: The Story Of Gods And Men

Funding for this project was cancelled 8 hours ago, but at the time had already raised over 4000$.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/273246798/mythic-the-story-of-gods-and-men

Mythic is and action/strategy based RPG brought to you by the same team that left Activision / Blizzard in search of something better! MYTHIC is an open world concept that will allow you to choose where you want to go even if it does not coincide with the story line and current missions list (hey, sometimes we just like to explore to level up right?!). The gameplay characteristics will be similar to that of World of Warcraft and the graphics quality should be up there with Skyrim. Game will be release on PC first and then ported to Mac. Depending on funding amount reached we will aiming to get a multiplayer version online by Summer 2013. Game engine is custom but built based off of Unity3D and animations will be done via motion capture thanks to some friends at Disney/Pixar!

Project has already been taken down by creator, and all of the companies information is being deleted from the internet, yet they still managed to get nearly $5,000 in the few hours it was up, which is quite worrying.
Points of evidence
- God character art is from http://pgwebdesign.net/blog/35-mythological-art-masterpieces...
- Backgrounds are from http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=211755 and http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/painting/ancient-temple-en...
- Poster consists of this icon; http://xooplate.com/templates/details/2443-ancient-warrior-s... on top of this texture; http://panzertm.deviantart.com/art/Old-Yellowed-Paper-125646...
- The sword reward pictures are from; http://www.knifecave.com/fantasy/store/products/Designer+Cus...
- The reward tier text and values are copied wholesale from The Banner Saga's kickstarter, with just a game name search & replace.
- The office photos; http://i.imgur.com/uTCBT.png are just crops from the Burton Design Group; http://i.imgur.com/XOFdi.jpg

I wonder if this was some kind of experiment.

A few members of our team worked at BDG last year before other found out the owner was being shady with funds. They left and joined our team shortly after. As for the concept art, it seems we have been subjected to false claims of ownership right to our concepts. The game itself is well in progress and is NOT a scam of any kind. Thank you for understanding. If you have any furthure questions please feel free to ask.

The video is a mishmash of buzzwords stolen from other Kickstarter projects ("action strategy-based RPG!"). They even use Brian Fargo's "By Gamers, For Gamers" tagline.

Terrible grammar. I would never give money to such clearly uneducated peasants.

They use the Kicking it forward icon from Fargo as well. Maybe someone should point him to the scam.

Kickstarter moar liek Scamstarter. Scary how much money seems to be in this. Do they keep track of how many successfully funded projects actually deliver in the end?

Yes that line is totally Brain Fargo's invention

Irrelevant. They were almost certainly imitating him when they said that.

lol at people who didn't know that "By Gamers For Gamers" was Interplay's moto up at this point. Should be one of many requirements to know before you register here.

Terrible scam attempt. Animated by Pixar artists, yeah right.

Sounds generic enough that anyone could have come up with it.

You say the as if it's just one.

I have confidence in big names and guys like Eisenwald that have shown quite a bit of work, but I think most of them are varying levels of scam or are just pure wishful thinking. At least for computer games.

Yes that line is totally Brain Fargo's invention

Wasn't that the motto of Interplay? Or was that EA?

Interplay. The only EA ones I remember are "It's in the game" (EA Sports) and a creepy whispered "challenge everything". There was at least one before that though, just don't recall the words.
Yeah, EA had something else at some point, back in the 80s.

That one sounds right for interplay, though. Sad that interplay got taken over and turned into dogmeat.

Well, for a while I believe it was just the logo crackling into perspective and some computerized voices vocalizing "ElecTronic Arts".

Didn't they also say something like "Challenge Everything"

EA Sports was "EA SPORTS It's in the game!"

So the guy uses his real name, shows his face and uses clearly plagiarized materials? Exactly what was going through his mind?

The bad thing is that if he didn't use those images, the fraud might not have ever been caught. I hope people start to be much more cautious about throwing their doolars at the computer screen every time "EX-______ EMPLOYEES NEED YOUR HELP TO RELEASE BEST GAME EVER" pops up.

The images were pretty irrelevant to a degree, it's not like some random dude is gonna bother running them through image search engines. The poor grammar and fan service information, such as when he mentioned that they were former "activision/blizzard" employees, were, however, huge red flags.
