If someone embeds an IMG in their post and it is unavailable for some reason (site blocked by a provider, error 403 etc), there are very few way to extract the link to try and load the image on your own accord. The only way of doing it I found is to quote the message and then click on the image to get the URL. And if the image is inside the quote tags in a conversation (no support for nested quotes) then even that is not available.

I remember that before the engine upgrade I didn't have this issue and could extract the image URL directly from the post by right-clicking the image that failed to load.

Is there any other way of doing it properly? What is it that prevents the previous behavior?

Sorry, I don't get it. What preview?

I get a non-functioning image that I can't view, like this (the sample below is not an actual image):

How do I get the link from it? I can click on it if it is copied to the WYSIWYG editor, but I can't access the link from the post itself.

Maybe it's Chrome acting up - I checked it on a mobile phone and the long tap on the image provides the link.

Press F12 in chrome to open dev tools, use the Lens to select the broken image and check the <img src="link"/>.

Ah, yes, the 'view element code' workaround. I guess it will have to do.

But seriously, why did rightclicking on it and copying URL work before but doesn't now?

Believe it or not, my internet connection had a problem just as I entered this thread and a few images failed to load. Before I refreshed, I thought both of you had changed your avatars to some broken avatar to fuck with Nevill.

I'm confused. Right click -> copy image location. That isn't available to you, or are you talking about on mobile?

Sounds like a chrome problem, not a forum software problem.

For Chrome:
Right click broken image.
Select "Inspect element"
right click on the img src= link in the element
then either Select
"Open link in new tab"
or
"Open Link in Resources panel"
