Fox is working on a new Alien shooter
FoxNext Games division expands, acquires Cold Iron Studios to tackle Aliens

FoxNext Games, the video game division of Fox that was formed in 2017, has acquired Bay Area game developer Cold Iron Studios, which will work on a new game based on the Alien franchise. The studio’s new Alien game will be a shooter for consoles and PC.

FoxNext called the acquisition representative of its “commitment to deliver new AAA offerings across numerous fan favorite properties and original games,” the company said in a press release.

Cold Iron Studios was founded in 2015 by former members of Cryptic Studios (Neverwinter, City of Heroes), including CEO Craig Zinkievich, chief technology officer Shannon Posniewski and creative director Matt Highison.

“Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games,” Aaron Loeb, president of studios at FoxNext Games said in a release. “I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe.”

“We believe in FoxNext’s vision and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe,” Zinkievich said in a release. “Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon.”

Alien video games were previously the domain of publisher Sega, which released Aliens vs. Predator, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Alien: Isolation as part of a longterm publishing arrangement with 20th Century Fox.

FoxNext Games’ debut title will be Marvel Strike Force, a free-to-play role-playing game featuring the heroes and villains of the Marvel universe. Marvel Strike Force will be released on mobile devices in early 2018.

Fuck, they're really making a Bug Royale.

I saw the title and was happy to see new Sigma's slaughterfest but turns out - it's obvious crap.

Yeah, I also thought that was about the Alien Shooter from Sigma Team. However I googled now and found on their facebook page a screenshot of Alien Shooter 3. Looks great :)

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
Like most others, my immediate reaction was this was gonna be shit, but at least I'll be keeping an eye on this to see what becomes of it.

One point of note though, 20th Century Fox seems to have taken the Alien franchise away from Sega. Loads of reasons to do that, but I wonder which one it was.

Alien Game from FoxNext and Cold Iron Studios Confirmed to be “Massively Multiplayer Online Shooter”
FoxNext Games and Cold Iron Studios' upcoming Alien game for PC and consoles is still in development and will be a "massively multiplayer online shooter."

While many are disappointed by the fact that Alien: Blackout turned out to be a mobile game, there is still a Alien game for PC and consoles coming from Cold Iron Studios. That being said, how much Alien fans will actually be excited remains to be seen as FoxNext officially confirmed today that Cold Iron Studios’ Alien game will be a “massively multiplayer online shooter,” a far cry from the cult classic 2014 horror game Alien: Isolation.

This confirmation actually came from within the press release for Alien: Blackout. After discussing the mobile game, FoxNext ends things off by saying “FoxNext Games’ studio, Cold Iron Studios, is also currently at work on a massively multiplayer online shooter set in the Alien cinematic universe for consoles and PC.” While we still don’t have much information to go on or even a title, we at least now know that the game is still actively in development and unrelated to recently announced Alien: Blackout.

FoxNext and Cold Iron Studios had hinted that the game was an “online shooter” in previous statements about their partnership, but its inclusion within the Alien: Blackout press release confirms its genre and the massive scale the developers are aiming for. It is likely a far cry from the horror roots many Alien fans were hoping the next game would tap into, but I can’t help but be slightly intrigued by the idea of a game like Destiny set within the universe ofAlien.

There is also a fairly good chance that we will see Amanda Ripley in this game as well. Fox is showing great interest in utilizing the Alien: Isolation and Alien: Blackout character, outright stating today that “20th Century Fox will partner with a wide range of storytellers and innovators to bring this epic chapter in the Alien Universe to life, with even more entries in Amanda Ripley’s story soon to be announced.” That being said, this is pure speculation.

If you’d rather play a horror game set with with universe of Alien, Creative Assembly and SEGA’s Alien: Isolation is still available for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One and can be picked up on Amazon. For those of you more interested in upcoming Alien games, you can check out Alien: Blackout’s reveal trailer below.

Chris L'Etoile, writer who worked on Mass Effect and The Outer Worlds, is possibly hinting an Alien game. (He left Obsidian in March btw.)

Clearly, they need to get on this bandwagon with "Alien Shooter Online". Or "Alien Shooter 3D".

An Alien shooter. When you absolutely, positively have no idea what to do with the license, accept no substitutes.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In
So I'm guessing that stuff with L'Etoile's wife is over now. Very interesting that he'd rather work on some MMO than go back to Obsidian. Or maybe they didn't want him back?

I want something like AvP from 2000s. That game was quite scary and tense.
You, me and everyone else who played that brillant game.
Instead we got that fucked up AvP variant around 2010 or so.

The funny thing is, the 2001 game also had pretty good multiplayer...
