Pods are standard issue support units for the automated infantry squad, YoRHa. They’re equipped with various weapons, mainly for long-range attacks. They also provide support on the movement side. They act as a receive for transmissions from headquarters, and can also exchange strategy information with several machines.Pod 042 supports 2B and Pod 153 supports 9S.

Commander

NieR-Automata_09-15-16_002.jpg

Director of the Bunker, a base that floats in the satellite orbit, and the person in charge of commanding all YoRHa units. She conducts herself in a level and calm manner, but seems to care about 2B and 9S. It also seems she has some sort of connection to the YoRHa prototype model A2.

Operator 6O / 21O

Communications operators stationed at the Bunker. They are responsible for sending down orders to the automated infantry squad, YoRHa, and information analysis. Their personalities vary by individual. Operator 6O, who is in charge of 2B, is relatively cheerful. Operator 21O on the other hand, who is in charge of 9S, is calm and composed.

Adam and Eve

—Adam (left)

A mysterious, highly intelligent young man who wears glasses. He has a calm personality, but will take relentless action if it’s for his goal.

—Eve (right)

Adam’s twin brother. Compared to Adam, he is simple-minded and doesn’t think too much about things. He loves his brother Adam.

Pascal

NieR-Automata_09-15-16_005.jpg

Despite the fact that he is a machine life-form, he is a pacifist who dislikes conflict, and is exploring the road of peace with machine life-forms who have the same aspiration. He is a highly intelligent machine with an interest in the history of humanity and machine life-forms.

Devola and Popola

Devola and Popola are old-style Androids based at the resistance camp. They know of and feel indebted to their model of machines that ran rampant long ago. They’re unsual within the android community, as they’re model able to consume alcohol.

Emil

The same Emil from the original NieR. Most of his memory is gone due to the long years that have passed. His position in NieR: Automata is unknown.

■ Locations

Bunker

The Bunker is the headquarters of the automated infantry squad, YoRHa, which floats in the satellite orbit. From here, the Commander sends down orders to the YoRHa units through Pod transmissions, as well as drops down support materials and weapons.

Resistance Camp

The Resistance Camp is where the Androids that fell to Earth before the YoRHa squad are based. These Androids have organized their own resistance army and lend their support to 2B and 9S as they share a common cause—“for humanity.” Here, you can buy items, strengthen your Pods, and take on sub-quests.

I kept thinking those swords floating were incompetent programming - but just noticed those hover rings.
It's just ineptly disguised incompetent programming! Must be some Cavia developers working on this as well!

A level set in a factory with shitty camera placement, poorly placed instant-death traps, strange kamikaze robots whose death screams sound suspicious, cool music, overpowered rapid-firing assistant... Yep, it's Nier alright.

Never played any Drakengard or Nier games since they were on PS3, but since this is coming to PC I am going to get it.

Will I be lost storywise since this is the second game in the series or is each game its own thing like Final Fantasy?

You will be lost even if you had played all these games.

You can try Drakengard 1 on PC via PCSX2 since it's a PS2 geam (there's even unofficial Undub ISO available), if you can't stomach its clunky, repetitive gameplay just read LP. It has propably most fucked up plot in any video gaem ever.

Avoid Drakengard 2 at all costs though. It's not 'trve' Drakengard title.

You should play / watch at least Nier in this case but full fun is to know what caused the apocalypse in original Nier... which leads to Drakengard 1.

To not spoil anything more, in short:

Drakengard 3 Ending A -> Drakengard 1
Drakengard 1 Ending A -> Drakengard 2
Drakengard 1 Ending E -> Nier 1
Nier 1 Ending ??? -> Nier 2

NIER is pretty much the only one you should play/watch this video is pretty good if you are only interested in the story and don't want to watch other people play (or worse talk) like me

There's some well-liked Let's Plays in screenshot format here as well:

http://lparchive.org/Drakengard/
http://lparchive.org/NIER/

In the Drakengard one there are a lot of sarcastic comments by the guy who made the LP.
In Drakengard 3, the ENTIRE DIALOGUE IS WRITTEN IN THAT TONE AS IF HE WROTE THE DAMN SCRIPT.
It IS known Taro took note of the Drakengard LP at some point and even sent the guy stuff.

After watching this new gameplay video I'm kinda of having second thoughts about this game. It looks too much like a Metal Gear Rising on a new skin. I hope I'm wrong and it offers something more than the latter.

What's wrong it? it's action combat done right and they didn't show anything but the combat so far MGS:R is a ~5h character action game so there is nothing else besides combat which is fine for the genre NIER:Automata will be a 50-60h action rpg there will be a lot more stuff to do.
The thing is if you played the first NIER you would know how story driven this game will most likely be as well so showing more then the combat and a bit of the world/characters would very likely spoiler important parts of the story and they won't do that.

Is this confirmed in any way?

Also, I don't mind MGR combat. The thing is, I think that there is a bit too much of button mashing in it. I prefer Bayonetta's combat, it seems a little more balance and demand more strategy from the player.

So far we heard from Square it should take around 20 hours to complete. I guess it should run at 60 fps or at least target that amount of frames.

99.9% sure that means "to complete the first ending which leaves you with more questions than answers and reveals nothing interesting."

Cavia games make you replay them and each replay, layers are revealed. Some of these reveals are big game-changers. I don't want to spoil any but it's completely worth it. Except for the true endings which-

Let me put it to you this way. Sometimes you have to take a huge dump and it hurts because you just can't force something that big out. So it hurts and maybe even tears and it's a huge, well, pain in the ass. It's a painful, gross process you'd rather not undergo. But when it's done you may feel a sense of accomplishment. That's the true endings in these games.

We heard it takes about 25h without doing any sidequests/content Saito-san said it would take a lot longer if you do that:
http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/08...than-25-hours-to-finish-side-quests-detailed/
and there will be multiple endings as well like in the first game and the sidequests are required to unlock them.

Holy shit this going to be so goddamn good. It just looks like everything done well in Nier, but better, and without all the shit that wasn't working well. This game will be amazing.

Plus, THAT FUCKING MUSIC IS BEAUTIFUL!

Man you weren't lying...

Also one of my fantasies ever since I played Final Fantasy 7 as a wee lad was an AAA game set in a green apocalypse with ruined buildings being reclaimed by nature...
So, literally, this game is a dream come true.
