SwiftCrack I originally wanted to go Kickstarter, but Kickstarter does not support Czech Republic. No, I won't abandon the project. I've spent a lot of time on it and around 90% of core-stuff is done (menu, all weapons, I have a lot of characters prepared, I have quite large world too - but some zones are from 2016 and when I see them now, year later. I don't like them so much. So I d like to rework them all so they fit the latest art style.

While game is minimalistic in in its mechanics, I'd like to focus on story line.

I'd just like to dive into fulltime development and I'd liek to cover music. Not being native English speaker is quite obstacle- reason why the translation of game was done by someone else, I will keep going if it's funded or not. I don't care if this won't make profit in return, all I need to do is to deliever it to people who will actually enjoy it the way it is. Something may be changed due to budget (less music, shorter loops, more time to complete), I won't cancel the game.

If it flip on indiegogo, I will still keep posting info about development time to time as before.

I’ve again tweaked a few things in the demo where necessary.
Among these are the minimal and maximal jump height. You also don’t need to crouch in order to hit the rats anymore (no gemstone attack).
A few other little things have also been changed (ie the rat boss can no longer hit you with the tail or its head, etc).

New combat prototype. Combat is based on stamina now, but don’t worry. Lack of stamina will never stop you. You can still attack normally. Stamina adds great aid to the current Gemstone system that I plan to expand as well. With stamina Arietta will be able to perform combos, charge attacks, to use different attacks with the same gemstone and it will also help to balance otherwise overpowered stuff. Oh, by the way one you see in the GIF is just your basic sword, no gemstone equipped - it is just that stab, stab forward weapon you know from the demo.

Hi,
It's been some time since I tried to fund Nightkeep ( https://gamejolt.com/games/Nightkeep/303200 ). Ongoing events weren't so good for me so I had to rethink some steps. After all this time I decided to postpone Nightkeep. I am now trying to make its funding happen by other smaller games that I will do on my own.

Who i am again ?


Game dev hobbyist from Czech republic. Creating games over a decade, I worked with RPG maker a lot before I decided to move off to create full custom games.

What is Armortale?
  • 2D platformer inspired by hidden gem, Lickle (Little Samson)
  • I am working with Nes palette + I drive in some custom colors
  • Game will contain separated stages with boss at the end of each
  • Game for MS Windows with full Gamepad Support
  • Works well with Wine

Why I am creating Armortale?

Nightkeep project failed its crowdfunding campaign, this didn’t allow me to progress further /music, additional art, translaton/ and I allowed myself to get burned by negativity. I decided to start small-scale 0 budget project, that I would be able to handle myself - maybe with some small help. This project is Armortale.

Goals of Armortale

While Nightkeep is project I wanted to complete, I spent my savings on it. It led me to bad situation. I’d like to use Armortale to partially cover my loses. Games aren’t my work. Just spare time hobby.

Hey folks,

in the past, I created Nightkeep RPG-Metroidvania game for fun and shared its progress here. I didn't manage to overcome obstacles that I put in my own path. So I am sending respect to all devs that are doing better than I did.

I announced the small side project instead - Armortale. I worked on it all this time and this side project is complete. It is not RPG so I didn't share its development progress here because it does not fit in the right category.

Anyway, I'd like to share its trailer here. I still carry Nightkeep idea in my head but I can't tell how far it will get, if anywhere.



On my Discord, we're debugging Armortale game now with the help of its small fan-community. I will release game probably this year or if things won't go well in January 2020.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
i played up till the 3rd level. it's pretty good. nothing revolutionary or fancy, but i like it. the controls are tight (using controller. maybe i am not just a keyboard guy with platformer but keyboard control was frustrating even after rebinding. i almost ragequit, but i switch to controller, then voila! game is playable )

i like the armor gimmicks, and i like that you can change them mid jump and it stops the time. some cool design here and there, enemies are standard types and bosses are decent. i'd like more movesets but it's still pretty good. there are also some secret i accidentally found by falling into chasm that the first boss have a strong version of it. overall, it's pretty good for solo (ish? i assume) project. the art is pretty cool, nothing fancy, but functional. so is the music

there are bug i found that the music stop when i take screenshot of this naughty witch:

definitely worth trying if you have 3 bux and some time.

i think nightkeep have potential if the smaller side project is like this. i hope you find the time/will to finish it dude.

Thanks for trying that game out, guys. Sticky platforms in Armortale is odd bug related to specific controller(? and some weird limits of extensions I used).

And as for Nightkeep I'm back onto it since this summer. Actually I started anew from ground-zero with a fresh empty build. Left all code, game structure, every map, enemy, basically all I had behind. Same with most of its assets.
So code for controls, movement, etc. All is remade. Leaving of previous builds behind allowed for one drastic change and that's change of app resolution. It got upscaled to 480x270 from 384x216 (original keep).

I am keeping version log as I'm working on this new build. Started with ver 0.01 in August, currently working on v. 0.09. I move to higher version every time amount of work/plans is done.

Hello, it's been 3 weeks since I resumed work on Nightkeep. I'm trying to work on the game whenever I can. In these 3 weeks, I've made it to the castle and created a few initial rooms. I've also set my sights on the old graveyard in front of the castle, which I'm currently working on. I'm attaching an image of the graveyard and the crypt within it.

As for the story, I'll have to rework it because I discarded everything from the original Nightkeep. Those who played the demo may remember the village in distress, the alchemist conducting experiments in his mansion, and the fact that Arietta (the main heroine) wasn't alone and had a sister accompanying her. That has changed. Arietta is now alone, and I need to come up with a reason why she's climbing that castle when everyone says it's full of monsters.

*Crypt Entrace

One thing that's been bothering me is the choice of resolution, which I've increased. I chose a resolution of 480x270, which means the sprite sizes remained the same, resulting in a lot of unused space on the game screen that I'm trying to fill somehow or expand the rooms with extra tilesets. It's not something that can be easily reversed or changed.
