Nitpicky NWN 1 question thread

A good place to own a gun.
The only RTwP game I enjoy, mainly because playing solo cuts down on the stupidity of constantly interrupting realtime combat for micro-management. I recently started a new game with the 1.71 community patch, playing as Ranger/Assassin.

First question (of many): I've maxed out my "use magic device" skill and it works on everything in the first levels. For those unaware, this skill is based on item cost in the game. However, my +5 Gloves of the Hin Fist doesn't grant me an attack bonus, according to character sheet. Bug or intended?

These types of gloves only grant bonuses to unarmed combat, since you don't have monk levels I assume you aren't beating people up with your fists. Playing solo in a 3/3.5E D&D context also has the advantage of character builds being an integral part of the gameplay, i.e. every character feels distinct. NWN2 also had this, because you couldn't really "build" the companions, without mods anyway, because they were locked in their original class.

Thanks. For me, I don't so much mind having a party, as in ToEE, but rather the constant retargeting, casting, special abilities and various other management tasks in a real time setting. It just doesn't flow; if I'm playing in real time I want to see the fireball explode rather than pausing in mid-spell to assign a command to a party member. Real time should be real time, and turn based should be turn based. Real time with pause is some freakish marriage of the two that just doesn't jive for me. However, since my party size is only 1 or 2 in NWN 1, the management is reduced and thus I can still plan out my attack in a methodical way. Even though I keep hearing the story is great in Mask of the Betrayer, I haven't given it a fair shake since I did not care for the NWN 2 original campaign. Once the party size goes above two I just lose interest.

PS: Those gloves do not state unarmed only, but it's reasonable to assume that since it's intended for Monks, the bonus is limited to unarmed/kama/kukri/etc. Not stated in the description though.

You shouldn't even be able to put them on if your not a monk, the description says Monk only.

There's something oddly maximum retarded about this thread, but I can't quite nail what the bait actually is.

UMD allows you to bypass restrictions based on your skill level in it, with class restrictions needing the highest skill.

Awesome, I've learnt something new. I had no idea that skill related to clothing, I always thought it just related to non-equipable consumables such as wands and scrolls. At least something good has come from this thread.

If playing a high dex char, you basically NEED UMD to use monk robes, because you won't get the maximum dex bonus otherwise.

About this - they replace the enhancement bonus on weapons so you can bypass resistances, that's why they are there. A longsword +1 is equivalent to Gloves of the Hin Fist +1. Mostly for multi-classing, because a char with many levels in monk will get an automatic bonus for bypassing resistances on their fists, the gloves in this case only provide a dmg bonus and are still useful.

They don't provide a damage bonus like a weapon enhancement would. Only attack (ToHit) bonus. And the ability to pierce reductions. So they're not equivalent to weapon enchantments. Though they do add a little sonic damage as an extra.

Yeah, I meant the bonus to piercing resistances are equivalent and the extra dmg is the elemental component. They also provide ToHit bonus, like you said.

Actually class restrictions are the least expensive (DC +0), followed by race (DC+5) and alignment (DC+10).

Huh, so you are saying the glove's bonus does not stack with weapon bonuses?

Also this whole business with them only modifying unarmed is weird. It's a Monk item. Monks can use weapons. If it was only unarmed, it should say +5 unarmed.

Yeah, they don't stack. The gloves act as your weapon in the case of unarmed combat, otherwise they are useless. Use other gloves instead, like dexterity ones.

I'm doing the side quest for Oleff and I need to find Never's tomb, he says it's in a house on the east side of Peninsula District but I can't find this house. There is a house that is locked on the east side that can't be picked. Any help?

You are stuck on the first stage of the first side quest available to you in the first act of the OC. This makes you a 'tard.
