Ah, who am I kidding? We all will be running the event with at least 3 chars each.

Yah. I don't care about the torpedo, but I do want the dil and the marks, so it looks like I'll be taking on the CE 70 times. The Mirror Invasion grind event is probably right around the corner again too.
That's like ten skyways!

Was just on Tribble. Unified sector space is just sort of....there. I have no strong feelings one way or the other. It's not like it's going to make a huge change in the game. They've moved a bunch of shit around, so it'll take people a bit to get used to the new layout, but there's nothing relevatory. Flying through space does have a more cohesive feel now that you're not prompted by a boff to jump to the next sector block every minute or so, and the astrometrics map now marks off sector borders, so that'll be useful for doffing. Scaling is still a work in progress, so some things like warp trails are way too big. If you're flying with the Borg or Breen engine effect on it looks like your ship is on fire (see the link). The camera is also messed up. The only view I could get of my ship was top down.

I saw some video of it and apparently the local doff assignments work fine except some misaligned sector borders.

The biggest change for me will probably be the ability to just set a course across a quadrant and run any marauding assignments I come across.

Doffing seems ok for the most part. The missions are still all there. If you have the doff screen up when you cross a sector border, it looks like it's supposed to be automatically refreshing to reflect the new missions available, but that's only happening some of the time. Probably related to the misaligned sector borders Davidshky mentioned.

Was looking at screenshots, and this game looks awful!

It is! I would say STO is mediocre at best! The space combat tends to be pretty fun and I enjoy the ship-building aspect, since there are tons of ships and components to choose from. Ground combat is crap, I avoid it unless I'm forced to do it as part of a story mission. A lot of the design decisions are questionable at the very least, since almost everything the devs implement is intended to somehow entice the players to spend money. I play STO because I'm a lifelong Star Trek fan and it's not like there are a lot of space MMOs out there to choose from (I've tried EVE, no thanks). I do admit the game is less fun since Norfleet left. Despite his stance on fun, not having someone in the fleet constantly discovering new exploits makes things less entertaining.

I have seen the light regarding STO: It is terrible, but I've made more money off it than I've ever actually spent in my entire gaming career. Do not play unless you want to become a gold farmer, in which case I have tips.

For me the redeeming thing about STO is that it's one of the few games where I can fly big spaceships that feel like ships. Tbh, if it wasn't for the great pumping and the 40 mil minerals I got from it I would probably have dropped sto a long time ago.

Yes ... avoid, i2 years ago I might had said something else but now ... they are nothing but a scam sleazeball or perhaps they always were, you learn a lot about people when they end up in this situations.

Its a shitty game that spends more time trying to figure out how to steal your wallet that fixing the ever growing amount of issues, its not getting better ... just worst.

The CC event is probably the quickest grind I ever did so far. The fight (on normal) is short and impossible to fail, even if the usual retards keep firing on the CE while it is in absorb mode, the shockwave only deals about 20k dakka. Even the zombieboat is pretty unimpressed by it. Okay, the fartbird looks a little bruised afterwards, but unless most of the players are afk, the shockwave only happens once in the fight and the whole thing is over before the mirror universe mooks start appearing.
Easy potatos. I think getting 50k through doffing takes more effort. Might even run it with more than 4 toons after all.

I've been firing on the CE in absorb mode for a long time now just to show I can tank its shockwaves with ease.

The new thing this time around is that even Escorts can tank those on Normal.

I just put up for sell the Jem'Hadar collection.
You are bailing out? Can i haz your stuffz?

Also a general thought on "should I play this game":

It's a MMORPG.
By definition it's a pointless timesink. But since STO is f2p, it's not neccesarily a moneysink. Aside from spending some Shekelz on the boxed game years ago, I did not spend a single one afterwards. Spacepotatos (Dilithium) can be grinded ingame with minimal time effort if you want to, enough to pimp one mainchar. You may not be flying around with the newest available ship as soon as it comes around, but you are by no means forced to spend real money. So if one would start the game now, he would spend nothing on the game itself, but maybe 25 bucks for an endgame ship of his choice once he reached 50+. That's even less than I spent after all.
All those complains we hear in this thread is just the usual MMORPG problem: been around forever, bought everything, saw everything, new content only adds small amounts of new stuff. ALL MMORPG suffer from that problem. Only in this game you don't have to worry about a subscription making quitting/breaks easier.

So instead of listening to all the naysayers, a prospective new player should just download it, play it for a weekend or so and then decide if he wants to stay or not. No harm done, no money spent. Only time wasted, and that's is true for every game out there.

Not to mention Codexers are bros and might get you nice things like Ship Upgrade tokens and help you avoid wasting time and resources.

PS: Drakron has the amazing ability to complain about anything, even something going on sale or being handed out for free.

I'd say the factor is that flying those big space ships feels rather fun.

I agree....that's why I'm in space 99% of the time and only beam down on rare occasions. such as visiting the Nimoy memorial on Vulcan last night. It was nice that Cryptic actually took the time to do that since it had absolutely nothing to do with trying to make any money. Of course Dental was there doing their typical trolling asshole routine.

And the Star Trek IP has a lot to do with me sticking around. I likely would've dropped this game long ago if it were some generic "space" MMO. Blib is right though. Every MMO I've ever played has been a grind. It's not like STO is any worse or any better in that regard. WOW started feeling like a second job to me in less than a month, and EVE is probably the worst one I've ever been a part of.

That's probably the thing I like the most about Neverwinter, that the only grind I need to do to no end takes less than 10 minutes of my day (5 minutes or less if I actually pay attention), though STO does have a nice side that it still takes only 45 minutes on average to do the same.
