You're not thinking far enough. Cooking shows are one example. You get way more benefit from cooking yourself, yet they are popular. There's a few reasons.

1 the host might be very funny, charming or entertaining. In this case this is like watching Bob Ross paint. Many people who don't paint at all love his show. Because they love him and his voice. It brightens their day.

2 the host might be informative. Humans like seeing things done at a top level yes. Yes, you can cook yourself. Or play the game yourself. But watching someone who is excellent at it can teach you things you didn't know.

3 the game in itself might not be fun to play but have an excellent story or premise or atmosphere despite this. In this case watching someone competent and likable play it can be fun. Examples are NieR, Deadly Premonition, Drakengard...

when I was younger and had to share the pc with my brother, most of the time we found it more entertaining to play single player games in turns with the other person just watching. we could make in-game decisions together anyway, we played through many rpgs and adventure games this way.

Yes, of course I am. My wife and I, like normal, healthy people, go to a swing club once in a while and fuck strangers real nice and good. Real nice and good. How big is it? I like the smaller ones. The bigger, more popular ones have too many kids and are too clubby. The smaller, more professional ones are much quitter with a bunch of sections (like the dance club room/section) and the quitter lounge section, with a pretty good spread of ages and looks while minimizing the weirdos who make everyone uncomfortable. I get really antsy when things are really loud and crowded. That is why I like swing clubs since the atmosphere is so relaxed, everyone is cool and respectful, and I do not get anxious or antsy and can hear myself think.

Also, Sheffield sounds like it is in England and I have no desire to go to a country who jails people for singing "Everybody was Kung-fu Fighting" or for putting in a complaint about a surgeon with very poor hygienic practices just because they happen to be a Muslim. I try to stick to places where I only get arrested for reasons my mind can fathom and who respect free speech.
