This is a LP entry for the AIDS contest. But since Paint the Town Red doesn't have it's own thread on this forum, and it deserves one, I decided to post it here.
It's still on Early Access, the dev describes it as a "chaotic first person melee combat game". And that's all what it is. No story, you're thrown into a closed level full of NPCs, and you punch them and kick them and stab them with whatever you find scattered on the map until you kill each and every one of them.
What makes it fun/worth it?
- Blood splatter everywhere. Beat someone with a chair, a piece of brain flies away. An arm gets chopped. People fall down the stairs or gets impaled by a spike trap... The core mechanic (Well, the <only> mechanic, beat the shit out of everyone) rewards you with satisfying gore.
- Visual style. It's not realistic, it's voxel-based, but I think it's good enough. It reminds me a lot of Blendo. In fact, I thought it was a new game by Blendo at first. Some of you might think that it looks like a shitty Minecraft clone, but I don't think that would be fair. Anyway, I prefer them (or him?) working on more levels, game modes and the multiplayer than in trying to realistically recreate the human body. Some other bigger studio will do it somewhere else.
- Level editor (Steam Workshop). Ok, you know how EA works. I can't say it's 100% confirmed, but there should be a level editor, and it should also allow custom textures and objects. That could open many possibilites: a dungeoncrawling map, a No Russian map, the Charlie Hebdo office...
- Multiplayer and co-op. They've just added a barebones multiplayer mode. It basically allows you to join a server on a test map and... Well, that's all for now, but that means it's going to be real! You can say this game is already better than No Man's Sky!
- It's quick an easy to play. I mean you can load a map and play for 10 or 15 minutes just to relax for a little bit. Sometimes you need games like that (I know I do).
- Integrated GIF maker. You can use it while you're playing and it also allows you to upload them to gfycat.com. That's what I'm going to use for the LP.
Twin Peaks Girls... playful personalities... Sounds uhm promising? Whatever. But I'm definitely ordering that three-hamburgers menu.
Ook. I guess the Girls are serving upstairs.
Oh how nice, live music. IT WOULD BE NICER IF SOMEONE WOULD TAKE MY ORDER.
Pool. Well, I'm not that hungry yet, let's play a bit while I wait for my burgers.
Excuse me mister, do you want to play?
OK FUCK YOU.
SOMEBODY.
NOTICE.
ME.
B... BUT RESPECT MY SAFE SPACE! Jesus! What's wrong with these people?
No one has playful personalities in here! Goddamned false advertising.
He's fucking flying to the roof!
Look! The Girls must be up there!
Get out! I'm saving the Girls!
Make fucking room!
Away with you! I'm the Dark Messiah!
Hey! The cooks! You... own... me... DINNER! <slash!>
WTF are those two doing sitting there??
Oh no no No NO! Don't touch me!
FUCK.
Moral of the story: Stay safe at home. Your Codex friends are the only friends you need.
