Was that before the nerf or after?

There are lots of cool stuff in this patch but I think the game is overtuned. I'm keeping my gear and flasks updated (I'm playing Tempest league so started with empty stash) and taking it slow and it feels like I'm barely keeping up with the content even in Normal. Normal should be like a walkthrough for the stuff that will kill you in later difficulties. I don't think newcomers will have any chance in Hardcore.

I'm also disappointed how everyone is using the same abilities, I was hoping everything would be equally viable right after a patch. All of the casters are using using Flame Totem and the melee use Cyclone.

I'm level 75 at the moment and doing end game maps and still on my first character thanks to playing like a pussy.

Act 4s end boss is no joke, I'm pretty sorry for you that you are going to "experince" him at hardcore.
He hit like multiple trucks and we fight him in a very limited space. I suspect that they are going to tone down him a bit.

The fights were hectic. There is so much stuff to pay attention and most of them has killing potential. A lot of people seem to be buying/selling the act 4 boss kills even after the nerf.

I wish I could spectate everyone in hardcore league entering second last location

I didn't know there was another boss before the final boss so it caught me off guard. Managed to survive flasks but I was a bit shaken.

Is Arc Witch still viable and cheap?

I'm playing a Shadow Arc so technically it's viable. It feels a lot weaker than the old Arc even though patch notes say it's just a 8% damage nerf, probably because every monster is buffed. Biggest hits to Arc builds are the Eldritch Battery and Arctic Armor changes; you can't really sustain mana and defense is also an issue. Oh and act 4 boss takes like an hour to kill due to shit single target damage.

Maybe you're doing something wrong.

I've decided to go crit ele traps shadow (basically, lightning trap + cold snap trap + fire trap + whatever) - an unusual and unpopular build - and I'm ripping the content apart with real ease from the very start and still going strong (a3c atm), with maybe 4c equiv invested in 3 leveling uniques to give me the edge vs Malachai (I will end up using at laest 2 of those into the maps), the rest is self-found.

Anyway, the build diversity in PoE has always been for either the brave, the stupid or the knowledgeable people. Everybody else will stick to the tried-and-tested formula, with very little deviation. Don't see why you're complaining about it.

Only 8 hours to go, gonna make a character in the new sc league. Codex has a guild btw, contact Hoaxmetal this evening (GMT) for invites.
Specified character does not exist? You meant to contact you like via PM here or what?
Surprisingly I don't have a character named Hoaxmetal D: "CykaMetal" should work, or just posting your character name here. Also, turns out there's a 30 player limit (more slots cost 10 dollars per 10 slots). I'm going to kick some people out, yell if I kicked someone active :D

not so unpopular as I did same... Anyway I strongly suggest to try shock nova instead of lightning trap... Also works better with EE(I asusme you have it)

I didn't like shock nova trap, even though the dead zone is gone. I don't use EE, mostly because I tend to do throw traps around quite randomly.

I just tried the new Wild strike skill gem and find it impressive and yet altogether random, not only in effect but how to effectively design around such a skill. The conversion to variant elemental effects ..actually before finishing earlier I wondered if melee splash would generate additional effects of the same element. If so I imagine this skill would be rather excessive.

also really surprised that the Point Blank gem, unless I am somehow misreading the new skill description, no longer has a speed penalty.

All the "keystone" supports similar to PB (culling, iron will, iron grip...) got their respective speed penalties removed; it got replaced by added damage bonuses instead.

Wild strike is basically the good elemental hit (I have no idea why they left ele hit at all, it's still thoroughly underwhelming). The randomness does become annoying sometimes since you can't min-max effects with more specialised supports, but it's a very solid melee elemental skill otherwise.

Elemental Hit has been a difficult gem to use, and at times not favourable compared to other more practical choices, yet there appears to be a lot of latent potential in the skill if specialised for. The now additional 10% chance for elemental status effects is a substantial difference, and for those who specialise with quality gems this can probably make for a very potent elemental skill.

Wild Strike is very interesting as well, I'm trying to think of ways to make it effective, in fact I now need to see whether Melee Splash will have such a combinatorial effect.

for the most part I am intending to transition into Ice Crash with Concentrated Effect and if the possibility arises Cast on Melee

edit: Melee Splash seems to work on the melee component but does not appear to generate additional elemental effects, still I'm curious to see if there would be any interactions between the elemental effects and Cast on Melee.

Ice Crash is awesome, bordering on OP, so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets nerfed as soon as some streamer showcases its clearspeed. Single target is lacking (it doesn't actually hit a mob 3 times like you might expect) but makes up for it with AOE coverage similar to Reave. And unlike Static Strike you can target the ground so mobs often don't even get close to you.

With some tweaks to my old Facebreaker/IB build and after learning the hard way that bloodline packs are not to be trifled with I've made the guy just as tanky as before. Mapping's kinda fun again with all the new additions - if you can call a game without globe girls "fun".

It seems they want you to stack all kinds of defensive buffs now if you want to survive as melee. Fortify, Arctic Armor, End Charges. Armor has been buffed somewhat so Iron reflexes might be a good choice again.

I have iron reflexes, and fortify does seem to help a lot, but all my gear is 3 slots or less, and i doubt its even worth upgrading to get more slots.

im at act 4 cruel difficulty, and some named enemies can oneshot me fairly easily, my hp goes up and down so fast its insane, i have cleave slotted with hp recovery gem (cant remember the name, the one with flat number) and multi strike and that keeps me alive against crowds.

For single target i use dual strike + fortify + fast attack, and a very important component of my survivability is mark of the poacher, i wouldnt get very far without it.
