So this game has gone from DLC mill with reasonably good game play to a space where pretty much anyone can put their advertisement to keep getting Starbreeze monies, no wonder they could afford to promise shit if their steam group got 1.5 million members, I bet they wave that shit in idiots' faces and tell them yo man we can totally reach these kids with these make believe masks, they eat that shit up like it was cotton fucking candy. And sadly, THEY DO! Fuck, why aren't I an achievement-and-non-existent-shit salesman.
:rage:

So now, in like a month, we've gone from Hotline Miami cross promotion (mmhmmm whatever), to John Wick (What, who? More like John Doe amirite?) to fucking Alienware. Why they haven't put in billboards for real shit in the game yet is beyond me. Someone give Mountain Dewritos a call.

Then again the last update I paid attention to changed the skills around so much that I just couldn't be arsed to learn what they all did again and put a character together, or how they made it so there's yet another way you need to farm another kind of point to assign this new arbitrary not skill but really a skill.

Oh? For reals? I know they made a few "We upped the cash from heists, honest guys!" patches after nerfing it but it was still slow as fuck. If they rejiggered it properly I might have to load it up again.
(Cash is still a huge grind)

They also dun nerfed stealth to a RNG-fest (It's basically untenable atm.) Specials are now much more difficult, and there's more of them (I suspect this happened mostly to increase sales of weapon DLC.) Weapon mods are now even more random since you can get them for weapon DLC weapons you don't even have, instead of the goddamn stock you've been looking for a year now. AND there's more non-gun-mod cards, too.

Payday2 is a study in how you can take a cool idea for a game and completely shit all over it.

Gotta say, Payday: The Heist is fun. Judging by this thread, 2 is even better.

Can you buy all the DLC? Are you willing to grind, grind, grind? More importantly, do you have friends to suffer with you?

This article from back in February probably explains why things have become like that lately.

Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson-Klint announced plans to expand DLC offerings for the developer's multiplayer co-op FPS Payday 2, citing a financial turnaround in a recent earnings report.

"To put the past six months in perspective, I would like to highlight that Starbreeze historically, from 1998 to June 2013, accumulated a total loss of SEK 94 million ($14.43 million)," Andersson-Klint explained. "Thanks to our new business model, reorganization and a focus on our own brands, we have - in only two quarters - generated a profit before tax of SEK 104 million ($15.97 million). I would like to think that is what they call a turnaround."

Andersson-Klint announced that Starbreeze signed a new agreement with publisher 505 Games, allowing the developer to produce additional Payday 2 content over the next two years. The report states: "The new improved contract, worth 6 million U.S. dollars, gives us the security to, for the next 20 months, focus on developing and refining Payday 2 so that it becomes the best co-operative gaming experience available on the market, with many more add-on packages and other exciting events planned."

I guess thet realized that by making the game more, well, gamey and monetizing it better they can get huge loads of dosh and as we've seen, they will exploit that as much as they can.

Payday 2 could have been like NWN. Shitty content created by the devs but the potential for infinite fun with moddability. Instead, you get fed a stream of mostly shitty DLC missions AT SEVEN DOLLARS FOR ONE MISSION EACH so you can keep grinding for more weapons you don't need and masks you'll only wear to feel like you have justified the time spending to unlock them. At least the first one didn't pretend to be more than it was, a shallow but fun co-op shooter. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the idea of stealthing heists but stealth in this game is pretty terrible. It's usually a 1 or a 0, meaning if any goofball rando fucks up for even a second on one thing your entire stealthing progress is often wasted. You can't really stealth parts of most heists, and even when it is beneficial to stealth part of it, the game sending wave after wave of bullet-sponge dozers, one-hit kill cloakers with uninterruptible animations, and ungodly amounts of goons means you will likely die anyway on the harder difficulties (the only difficulties you get any half decent XP reward form doing) so the vast majority of the time you are better just treating it like a typical shooter anyway and going in full armored with machine guns and ammo or health bags. I think I realized they weren't even pretending to try anymore with their special "Halloween Heist" which, I shit you not Codex, involved literally staring at the floor for five minutes while bulldozers walked around your safehouse and shot you if you looked up.

New event with free content just like the last one, except this time players have to buy $4 million worth of DLC in a month to unlock the heist. I wonder which movie the Bonnie character pack is going to be a promotion for. Better buy that scloosive $20 4 mask dlc fast cause that's time limited too! :hahano:

(and yes, I only posted this as an excuse to use the hype train smiley-)

I don't really know if this is legitimate. But I was reading the Payday 2 steam thread when I heard the mention of a "Bonnie character pack". OK I think to myself. A women just like the classic bank robber. So I check the link.

Looking over the steam discussions as well as the official forums I haven't seen one person(beyond the superfan)that thinks this is a good idea.

I found this quote to sum it up.

To unlock every single reward, we need 2 million gallons of Hypefuel. One Completely Overkill pack grants 14 gallons, and costs £15. Let's say all the Hypefuel comes from that one pack. That's around 142,858 purchases of that DLC, resulting in £2,142,870. Subtract the amount they've listed for the LA prize kitty, and that levels out at somewhere around £2,000,000. I don't know enough about game development to make a comment on this, but I've done the maths for you, so interpret it as you will.

That's 142,858 purchases with Less than 20000 to 12000 people playing the game at all. They are also adding the base game and its other DLC to the hypefuel at a suspected 1 sale=1 gallon. But they are asking full price. Not the low low prices like in the November sale.

This DLC milking has gone from insane to utterly absurd thanks to that hype train thing. They have released this:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/348090

A normal weapons pack for five bucks, nothing that special. But alongside it they also released this twenty bucks gem. Be sure to read the full description:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/348091

And keep in mind that buying the "Completely OVERKILL Pack" doesn't give you the weapons from the "OVERKILL Pack". So yeah, for twenty freaking bucks you only get a few masks and some promises of a couple of future things. But hey, at least you get to "support OVERKILL in developing the free Hype Train content for the community", whoop-dee-fucking-doo.

Codex 2012 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The $20 sekrit item is also 1 random out of 25, so the collector spergs who bought it to have the complete game got ownt. Maybe if they ask nicely they'll be allowed to buy multiple copies of the dlc. And they just released it incomplete and a week early to stop people from canceling their preorders in steam.

As always this guy knows what's up:

I've seen a lot of steam discussion threads popping up from people who purchased the Completely overkill pack asking where their weapons are. Or what is in the pack to being with. Proving that a lot of people didn't even bother reading what they where even buying.

As for the minigun I previewed its model and stats. 3000 rounds a minute at 40 damage. Beyond that it has very poor accuracy and a 40% movement penalty. I have no idea how slow movement would be with the improved combined tactical vest. But I see people saying the historical packs MG 42 is superior to it. And that pack is currently 80% off in the sale.

I might dip back into Payday 2. How many new heists are there? I didn't particularly care for the ones they had in the game at release except that small bank which was alright.

If you pick up all the DLC now its on sale it brings the total of heists up to around 28. Many of them are multiple day heists that can get pretty punishing on higher difficulty modes like overkill and deathwish.

I guess I'll try the 'big bank' heist. It looks like most of the heists were uploaded for free. I don't really give a shit about weapons. Not going to pay $5 to shoot a new shotgun or whatever.

Most of the weapons packs can be avoided. But the Gage courier mod pack should be considered an essential purchase. There are just to many good items in that pack to pass up.

The Sniper pack is also worth mentioning as they can penetrate shields. Or the PAYDAY 2: Gage Weapon Pack #01 for the nades.

We fucking need more new heists, not watering down the original heisting team by adding more random characters.

That said, I liked Dragan.

The comments on all their updates the last month or so are full of ACSII middle fingers. And there are more fucking payday2 group posts than regular posts in my feed, that's how often they add new useless shit or announce that they might be thinking about adding some shit later.

But this won't ever backfire on them, no matter what they do there are people standing in line to support their cool bro-velopers that they know love them. Selling people more levels to gain in an xp-grind, and tier after tier of new weapons with slightly, slightly higher damage (even without increasing difficulty, so you kind of wonder who needs it). Children have too much money.
