http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/08/30/the-pc-gamer-top-100/

T'is but a shame of a list created for clickbait with console games from the past 10 years taking most spots, peppered by the usual PC suspects and only the latest worst version of some IPs, like Civ V, Rome 2 or XCOM. I already left RPS weeks ago, now PCGamer is going full retard too?

The judges
Samuel Roberts has yet to meet the game he couldn’t defeat in one-sided hand-tohand combat.
Tim Clark would do almost anything for a Hearthstone booster pack—but he won’t do that.
Evan Lahti is constantly trying to trick everyone else on staff into playing Arma. Fool us once, Evan...
Tyler Wilde teamkilled you, sure, but you were the one standing in the middle of his artillery strike.
Chris Thursten probably likes your game if it’s got a wizard in it. Or possibly a spaceship. He’s not fussy.
Tom Senior possesses an unslakable thirst for middling action-adventure games from three years ago.
Cory Banks thinks his perfect RPG would put him in a party with corgi wizards. One day, Cory, one day.
Phil Savage was born to conquer the world by gradually clicking on hexagons. All the hexagons.
Andy Kelly became king of the novelty games after a freak Kickstarter accident in 2012.
Wes Fenlon will be available for a bargain 75% off in the next Steam Sale. This offer won’t last.
Tony Ellis wishes they’d make some new games so he didn’t have to keep writing about Deus Ex every year.
Ben Griffin approaches you and whispers: “I could show you the world in 4K.” Don’t touch his hair.
Emanuel Maiberg is still in early alpha and may change significantly over the course of development.
Philippa Warr wasn’t allowed to include puzzle classic Avocado Pusher in the PC Gamer Top 100.
Richard Cobbett knows more about point and click adventures than anyone alive. Only the undead know more.
Ian Birnbaum is a niche sub-genre that is growing increasingly unpopular. Perhaps going F2P would help.
John Strike treats military shooters like an artform. You know, one of those artforms involving lots of guns.
Craig Pearson has defended more flags than you’ve had hot dinners. You could say his interest is flagging.

Rejoice (and Brofist) because I went and typed up the whole PC Gamer list. Numbers in brackets behind the title mean the place the game was on the LAST Top 100 Games list from them. Wankers.

44 HEARTHSTONE
TIM The whiners will say it’s too simple, or too pay-to-win. Both wrong. I’m too ashamed to admit how much money I’ve dropped on card packs, but suffice to say more Legendaries is no guaranteed path to Hearthstone success. The only sure route is the relentless practice required to understand how cards synergise with each other, which plays are optimal, and how to counter the brutally strong copy/ pasted decks that dominate Ranked play. Short version: it’s eaten my life.

Full retard confirmed. "I never played/understood MTG so I'll just ignore the critics saying it's just a rehashed dumbed-down version of Duel Masters".

"We're journos and immune to criticism" Okay. The circlejerk/echo chamber is complete now, we'll have to look for actual game news without the fake drama somewhere else.

Laugh as much as you like, but if you named it "RPGCodex top 100" there wouldn't be much difference:kfc:

It's just an ad. Obvious by the amount of recent trash on the list. Skyrim was #1 a year ago and now ME2 is. I wonder what upcoming game from a certain company could've changed their mind...

PCGamer is trolling.

It's the only narrative I can believe about a list that bad from a magazine that used to dedicate pages to grognards.

The mentioned judge staff is composed of usual suspects of the "new wave of journalism" or whatever the post-Gillen era is called. Focus on clickthroughs, twentysomething wasp sensibilities, media personalities and out of screen drama. The game-related stuff is an aggregation of trailers and press notes with the odd review. No legendary AARs on RPS for years now :(

Of course if you voice your concern about focus shifting from videogames into reality tv you'll be answered with a witty dismissal if not with an straight slur i.e. "mouthbreather" or a weaponized (re)tweet for self-reassurance.

Top 10 video game lists (as in "best" games, not "favorite") are an exercise in futility. To even come close to legitimacy with such an endeavor requires a level of expertise that very few people alive have or is even possible to acquire, considering the length of games. It's certainly not to be arrived at by collating the opinions of a group of people with varying levels of experience, game design literacy, analytic capacity, historical knowledge, etc.

Empire also did a "Top 100 Games of All Time" list recently. I'm not even gonna link it, but The Last of Us topped it. :retarded:

Clickbait, and advocacy for nu-game design. Deus Ex and HL2 thrown in for street cred. We've seen it time and time again, and time and time again these rags fail to make a sound argument for any of their opinions. Anecdotes and feels are not sound arguments for hierarchical placement, imo. I don't say that because of anti--rag bias. I could accept someone putting ME2 ahead of DX if they made some detailed arguments based on what those games do well or poorly.

Clickbait works because people keep linking it. It's obvious that they split it over 10-20 pages so people would click more. And it's also harder to pastebin.

01. Mass Effect 2 (2)

Some things I noted:

ME 3 is the highest new entry at 8, followed by DayZ at 12 (!?!)

56 titles survived the transition from last year's list.

Walking Dead Season 1 jumps up 62 places, more than any other title.

Quake 3 falls down 44 places, more than any other title (though only barely, EVE Online fell 43 places)

The Secret of Monkey Island is the oldest title on the list, from 1991.

Beyond that, the usual disclaimer applies: It's a shit list, just like all the others before it.
