Time units were so much better. Not even sure why ppl like APs. It's really not a difficult concept at all.

You have X amount of units to move and shoot. Up to you how to use them. How is this hard again?

It his not hard, it' just a redundant feature, same as navigating through 3 menus to get the same screen you can get with a single icon on the ui: feels clunky and old, just like the people who still praise that mechanic

How does it feel clunky and old? It gives you a lot more control over each squad member in a way you can't replicate with APs. APs are not better than TUs. They're just "streamlined" because people are apparently retarded.

What you are describing above is if TUs were the exact same as APs, but in a more archaic format. They're not. TUs are simply better than APs.

This looks very interesting. I wouldn't be dissappointed if strategic layer turned out to be way much more interesting than nu XCOM 1-2.

That's why Gollop is adding depth to all aspects of the game, but still keep the action points, he must be retarded aswell.

If going with APs then there's next to no excuse to include decent-sized squads.

X-COM had big squads from the start. Shit, I wouldn't mind little squads if we could have more later - 10, 12, 14, 20 man squads.

No, he's doing it to ape nuXCOM obviously. It's something the audience is already familiar with in the other two games. It doesn't make APs automatically better than TUs.

Yep. The whole Fig thing seemed fishy to me from the beginning, but Gollop already showed he can deliver a kickass game, even on crowdfunded terms.

So I'll take the plunge as well.

Time units are the granularity part of a simulation, it's actually the most important part that separates a game with arbitary rules from an actual attempt to represent some real-world-derived or completely imaginary system

From my experience, after developers making way too optimistic projections of release dates on kickstarters, I just assume all games on kickstarter/fig will suffer delays and based on the time both XCOM and XCOM 2 took to make, 3 years seems like a realistic bet. Of course, if you include the obligatory enhanced edition, it can take longer for the game to be complete.

Does the "Fig is evil" crowd realize that by not contributing to Fig campaigns, they're only ensuring that the developers that use it are even more in thrall to the supposedly shady investment scheme? It's retardedly self-destructive.

Ever dollar you give as a regular backer is a dollar that doesn't have to be paid back to investors down the line, making the service more like Kickstarter.

Problem with Fig is that it is still sort of untested prospect.
As far as I know there are no games out yet that were figstarted and no one yet knows what happens when a figstarted project fails during development.
Latter is probably the more important point.

Those investors might cause real grief for the whole service, unless legalese is good enough.

Eh, I can live without time units if the rest of the game is quality, which it very much looks like it will be. Julian Gollop has provided me with countless hours of fun through his games over the years, if it wasn't for X-Com I would probably be a dumb popamole bastard today playing akshun games on my Xbox. He inclined my taste in games and for that I will throw my money at Phoenix Point as soon as the page goes live.
