My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
To put this up here: As Bob announced this morning, Fig Slacker Backer is at $45,219. Through our Backer Portal, we are currently at $42,261. <3
So, less than 5k to the 4.5M stretch goal.

Tentacles, tentacles everywhere. Different colors for different monsters.

How else can they do it...?

Hopefully they finish Deadfire ASAP and immediately start working on Josh's dream turn-based historical RPG

Josh loves Darklands so we're pretty much golden

I'm pretty sure that if Obsidian made a serious turn-based RPG the combat would still suck ass :negative:

Ok, this update answers my question about post-campaign donations adding towards stretch goals. Ydwen is pretty much guaranteed to be a full companion :negative:

Probably... although 500k to go seems like it still might be a stretch. They've made 100k in the four days since the campaign ended (paypal/slacker), but I imagine the per-day #s are going to start to fall dramatically soon.

4.75M seems a given. 5 might not be. Not sure if I want Ydwen as a full companion or not, honestly. It might be fun having a 'crowd favorite' NPC be a sidekick rather than a full NPC... certainly would increase the chances of sidekicks being used by the general public.

Why the whine?
There's more than enough alternatives.
I don't think her development will eat enough time or resources to damage the game, or whatever your concerns may be.

Where do those figures come from? They are close to 42k from PayPal.

People will be upgrading their pledge once fig stuff gets imported to the Obs' portal. 500K in 60 days seems feasible but at this point I mostly care about 4.75 anyway, tis a good thing there are those who's crazy abour Ydwin.

Fig comments and summing.

I think we are looking good for at least $4.75M.

One of the most compressed schedules we have is our writers, so we have to be careful about anything extra we have them do.

Just in case you don't know, they'll add another sidekick to replace Ydwin at 5m, so no need to despair, you'll have your 4 BG1 style companions.

Or is Ydwin in particular that you really want as a sidekick?

Not in particular. Her description sounded to me like she could, potentially, have fun barks - a cynical surgeon/coroner archetype. And I think that the more you let average writers "develop" a character, the more likely they will mess it up.

Personally, I wonder how exactly will writers convey other party members' being "shocked at her intimate familiarity with death and her dispassionate affect in the face of even the most grisly scenes." given the fact this is a game where you slaughter enemies by the scores. What sort of grisly scenes will be offered us by the game narrative, for Ydwen to demonstrate her "dispassionate affect" against.
I think it can be done like when you encounter a specialist, whose knowledge and understanding of his area of expertise is way above yours and what you thought is possible to reach. You can slaughter enemies by thousands, but never come to this level of knowing nor actually think to ask how their internal organs operate, or in this instance how their souls work and what happens to them when they are dying. So perhaps spending time with this person makes you contemplate what you know and what you see in different light, provided that you are open minded for that and believe him in the first place. But it also terrifies and makes people feel inferior. One cannot help the feeling that you have been a blind watcher of the souls.

Needless to say designing a knowledgeable character requires knowledgeable author. On one hand, they have it easier as can decide what Animancy is about, on the other hand, they are inventing a whole scientific field. I dunno, one perhaps ought to establish what is the level of knowledge and evidence there, what folks know, and what are attitudes towards Animancy, and show it in the game -- to even be able to differentiate the voice of a character like this. It may be easier with a doctor in the historical settings, as players a sort of have some apprehension in advance what people of the times think like.

Though, to be honest, I'm also more likely to use sidekicks and hirelings. Which brings to the question, whether we can leave companions at the ship and visit time to time. Or if we don't hire them, can we still interact? Like when I was often stopping by to have a meal and to talk about recent news with Shameen and Shema in QfG. That was some friendship I remember.

I don't see the problem with the last stretch goal. We'll get another side kick and you just kill off Ydwin when you first meet her, so it's a win win.

I would be ok with her being a sidekick too. It at least frees from the obligation of developing relationships for her. Going from seven companions to eight also probably means increasing the number of relationship combinations from 28 to 36.

I doubt everyone will have an opinion on everyone else. This would turn into a soap opera if so.
